It is bone-chillingly cold here. Colder than it’s been since I moved back to Oklahoma more than six years ago.
I had to look through my closet to see if I actually owned a thick coat. (I did).
I searched in pockets of jackets for warm gloves. (I found only one).
I’ve wheezed my way through one day after the next, telling myself the next day will be better. (Maybe a tad).
I remember once, years ago, I broke a few ribs from coughing so much. Hoping that doesn’t happen. (So far so good on that one).
Abi and Charlie startle and stare at me when I cough so deeply it seems like I’m turning inside out.
Precious little babies stay close even though I’m noisy and sometimes disturb their sleep.
They are keepers.
The gardenia plant buds are getting bigger by the hour, it seems. I can’t wait for the fragrant flowers.
I joined a Facebook group for house plant lovers, and they knew all about this new-to-me indoor gardenia plant.
They promised that it would smell heavenly.
I’m sure ready for some heavenly.
Some of you gave me suggestions (thank you) on what to buy to help me get over this whatever-it-is, so I drove to Walgreens and bought what you see above.
I’m simply not one of those people that can sleep during the day, no matter how tired and achy I feel. Wish I could.
Yesterday I looked over at the clock and thought: Oh, it’s three o’clock. Bedtime is not too far away.
Then I realized that instead of being five till three, I’d looked at it wrong and and it was really 11:15.
I got it backwards.
Here’s to getting well, staying well, and warmer weather!
Delsym cough medicine has helped us get some sleep when coughing becomes disruptive. Also, I have to throw in here something that happened to my husband this year. His doc changed his blood pressure medicine and a few weeks later he developed a terrible cough. We didn't put two and two together for weeks.. until I finally insisted he see him again…. because even Delsym wasn't helping. His doc changed his BP med and within a couple of days the cough was gone!
I hope you are able to find relief soon. Nothing more miserable than feeling lousy and going without sleep….
Oh, my gosh! -30?? I wouldn't go out either, Linett! It was 17F. here today and I decided to take my poor antsy dog out for a spin. We only went around the block, not even half a mile I don't think, and by the time I got home my fingers were numb and my face was just about frozen!
Brenda, the consensus today is that you should try to get an appt. with your own doctor. Something you also might try at home two or three times a day is to heat a kettle of water with eucalyptus oil drops in it, put a towel over your head and lean over the steam and breathe it deeply as you can into your lungs. That may help soothe the bronchial tissues but of course won't deal with an infection if you have one. Just get thee to a physician!
Sending love and healing energy.
Time for you to see a Doctor, better safe than sorry. Its only -30 where I live on the Eastern Coast of Canada, won't be going out today. Hope you feel better soon.
I hope you are able to get in to see your regular doctor, especially if you have asthma, too. Asthma can get very bad suddenly when irritated by a cold or the flu.
I hope we all get out of this bitter cold weather pattern pretty soon. It was pretty miserable here today. We had a high temperature of 19 degrees, and cloudy and dreary all day, not even a speck of sunshine. This kind of weather gets old very quickly for me. I need to get a pretty gardenia like what you have, something green and growing to combat this winter bleakness.
Take care.

I agree with Kris and everyone else… SEE YOUR OWN DOCTOR and insist on antibiotics… either for bronchitis or walking pneumonia. I had the same thing years ago and it went on forever and I tried to fight it myself.. finally went in as the coughing became dry and hacky and would not STOP and I felt like crap. He said I had walking pneumonia and should have come in sooner.. was real close to being hospitalized. He gave me 3 different antibiotics! Don't let it turn into full-blown pneumonia! And I agree with the gal who said you need RX to help the couching at night and something to open up your pipes. If you have a regular doctor, they almost HAVE to see you on an emergency basis. I've been told that anyway. They set aside time every day at most clinics for emergency patients that need to get in right away. Good luck! Marilyn
Time for the doctor is my thought.
So sorry to hear you still aren't feeling well Brenda. I hope you are able to get in quickly to see your doctor. My goodness, they can't let you go on like you have been. I've never heard of broken ribs from coughing so much, but will pray it doesn't happen to you again. Oh, and want to say, seeing a stack of books like you have posted, makes me smile big time. Love books, even more when they are in a tall stack..Take care…
Poor Brenda!
I had this crud last spring. It is terrible. I went to the doctor and he said I had a virus and antibiotics would not work. So then I used Dayquil, Nyquil, and Mucinix.(Not sure I spelled that right). I went through 3 boxes of Kleenex. I think the coughing and the phlegm is the worst. I drank lots of water, and ginger tea.
After suffering for a month, my doctor finally broke down and prescribed antibiotics which finally killed it.
Oh boy, I think Kris is most definitely right – you need to get your sick self to a doc, Brenda! I use that sinus rinse during the height of allergy season and also when I feel something coming on and it definitely helps….although I HATE doing it. Whenever I feel something coming on now I start dosing up on vitamin C – I have 1000 mg tablets and I'll take two a day. It seems to work, knock wood…
Sounds like you are doing what you can to help yourself. I like to drink Ginger Lemon Tea, either hot or cold. It’s sugar and caffeine free. Helps with the sore throat and sinus congestion. One other thing that is nice when I’m sick and spending extra time resting is a fresh pillow case on my pillows. Makes me feel a little better.
I hope you get to feeling better. I had this crud last year and I swear it lasted a month or more. I do like a diffuser with essential oils.
Yes, Brenda, what Kris said! Not just a walk-in clinic but your own doctor if possible. I had rib heads out of place last winter from coughing and it is not fun. I loved what you wrote about Abi and Charlie staying near through your coughing spells, I know they want to comfort you. I love the scent of gardenia, it will be heavenly.
I see a book by Sarah Ban Breathnach on your shelf, I've always loved her books but don't have this one. Do you like it?
Hoping you feel better soon,
Dewena
Sending thoughts and prayer for the return of good health. Take care and keep warm.
Dogs are the best aren't they. What did you think of the sinus rinse? I've used it before and it seemed to help somewhat.

Ok here is the nurse in me Brenda. You need to see a doctor. That is not good and you do not want it to get worse and you end up in the hospital. Hope you see a doctor and get some antibiotics to help and they can give you something by RX for the cough too and probably an inhaler to help you open up your lungs and breath better.
Hope you feel better soon.
Kris
What Kris said!!!
Bless your heart! I agree with Little Penpen, you need something better!
Goodness! Your dr. can give you steroids to help you get over this quicker. Wheezing that much is not good and it shows your respiratory system is compromised. Are you on antibiotics?
