Yesterday I paid the new maintenance man to paint the upper walls of the living and dining rooms after hours. You may remember that I painted the lower part of the walls and then my ankle wouldn’t allow me to keep getting up on the step stool to finish.
For 13 months, the top 4-5 inches of wall by the ceiling were not painted.
When Nathan came to work here recently, I knew I had the best person to pay to finish painting it. It wasn’t all that hard for him. Because he’s 6 foot 6 inches tall. He can easily touch the ceiling. He’s well over a foot taller than I am.
It didn’t take him long because he never had to stop and get up and down on a step stool. He had it all done in about an hour. And I’m so relieved to have the painting finished!
It’s been a busy morning. A guy from the energy company that was hired is in here now, and has been for hours, sealing up air pockets in preparation to insulating the attic.
Apparently the owner has to adhere to the energy company’s rules of compliance in order to get the rebate from the electric company.
I’ve been up since 5 a.m., when Miss Ivy Lou decided to find a way to get on top of the red cupboard on the dresser next to my bed. I had a platter up there with a candle and some little faux plants in it.
I heard her get one plant and realized the next thing I’d probably hear would be Ivy pulling down the white platter and breaking it. So I got up and put those things in the closet to get them away from her.
When Nathan came in to paint he put a roll of paper towels on the table. Well, you know Ivy and paper towels. I don’t know how she figured out that that roll that had yet to be opened was the same as the paper towels she swipes from under my coffee cup, but she did.
I kept telling her to get down off the table, but I finally gave up. Those paper towels were just too enticing to her. He had moved the furniture away from the walls, so I didn’t want to go around it to get her down. So I just sat and watched what she would do.
She managed to turn the paper towel roll over on its side and begin to unroll it. She went backward with it in her teeth as she unrolled it. Nathan looked up and couldn’t stop laughing.
She then managed to get the roll stuck in front of one of the chairs, which was basically her own form of a paper towel holder.
We watched as she jumped to the floor and pulled the end with her teeth till she had about 8 feet of it unrolled. Then she began to rip it across until she had strips, which she then likes to play with.
I wish I had a photo of her doing that. But it happened kind of fast and I was so surprised at her being able to do that that I was kind of stunned.
This cat is scary smart and curious and busy as a bee till she wears out and takes a nap. It’s amazing to watch her.
She wakes up early in the morning and is full of energy and mischief.
I gave Charlie a second diuretic pill yesterday afternoon, but I still haven’t noticed that he’s urinating more. But his cough has calmed down thank goodness.
I hope this gets the fluid off his lungs.
Then a bit ago the manager came through with some insurance people. She asked me yesterday if I minded that they came through. She was supposed to choose 4 units and she wanted mine to be one of them.
The maintenance guy had to take one of the electrical covers off so they could take photos and also in other areas in my apartment. This afternoon an inspector is supposed to be coming through.
Thursday the energy company is sending someone in to seal something around the ceiling vents before they schedule the blowing in of the insulation.
So that’s why I’m a bit behind today.
