What I Ordered On A Memorial Day Sale

The past couple of days other blogs have been mentioning the Memorial Day sales. Yesterday I went to the Wayfair.com site to see how good their sale was. I ended up ordering a chair.

When my daughter comes over, I sit in my recliner after lunch and she sits on the couch. But where she has to sit is right over Charlie’s doggy steps, because on the other side my recliner is close to the coffee table.

She kind of straddles the doggy steps and Charlie whines and gets upset because he can see his doggy steps are blocked and that makes him nervous.

I found a chair, a beige one, marked down 82%. Which brought the price to $179. Then I had Wayfair points, so that knocked off another $6.

With free shipping, that is quite a deal. Sorry, it wouldn’t let me take a bigger photo of it for some reason.

It is called the Ivo Wingback chair. Looks pretty comfy to me and it had good ratings. It won’t be here till about June 10. I always read the reviews and the questions to see what others think of something I’m considering buying.

It will be the occasional chair, so I didn’t mind buying it without sitting in it first. And at that price, it was very hard to beat.

Here is the link if you want to look at the other colors. I will tell you ahead of time that the beige color I ordered is the cheapest though. There are quite a few colors, but they are all more expensive. Quite a bit more expensive in my estimation.

My plan is to put it catty corner across from the couch near the coffee bar.

Finally we had a night with no rain. I imagine that will help a bit with the flooding in these parts.

It is bright and sunny on this Memorial Day, a fitting day for a tribute to veterans and fallen soldiers.

See why they call this plant the pin cushion flower? Close up you can see what appears to be tiny pins in the base of the flower.

Pretty, isn’t it? Nothing showy, just one of nature’s many wondrous creations.

My daughter and Andrew came over after church yesterday for a bit. She brought lunch and then Andrew went out to the patio.

Here is a photo at Easter of Andrew looking for the Easter eggs we’d just decorated that I keep meaning to show you. My daughter hid most of them in the many pots.

Yesterday he found sea shells in some of my plants. I’ve decorated the tops of the soil in various ways over the years. And I’m sure if he digs a bit in the older pots, he’d find flat marbles and all kinds of treasures.

So I gave him a cup and he scooped up what he could find, then washed them off at the water spigot outside. Then he took his cup of shells home with him.

It’s amazing what children can do to entertain themselves. With no TV to sit in front of, they fall back on their own ways to play and pass the time.

The possum was out in the tree earlier. But it looks like it has taken off for now. I wonder where it’s hidey hole is?

I was hoping to show Andrew what a possum looks like. But lately it hasn’t been in the tree during the hot part of the day.

So I showed him the photos of it that are here on my blog.

What you see above are clematis seeds. I looked up how to plant them and found this:

Clematis seeds may take up to three years to germinate, but you should get some germination in about six months to a year. Collect ripe seed in the fall and plant in sterile seed starting mix, covering seeds with a thin layer of sand.

Even though the white clematis flowers have retreated for a bit, what they leave behind is just as interesting to me. But then I find most anything in nature interesting.

When I’m trying to take a photo of Charlie, I usually can’t get him to look at me.

Here’s Ivy in the bath tub with her gray mouse toy. She has played and played and played with that silly thing.

Happy Memorial Day, doing whatever you plan to do. I’m just relaxing at home with the pet babies.

  1. Sweet post and sweet pictures. You have an amazing ability to write about seemingly mundane stuff and make it such a nice read. Very glad you are back to daily posting.

  2. The colors in the yellow & white quilt are so spring like. How did you hang it? It is a simple pattern but the color & quilting is very attractive. I look forward to reading your posts each day. Thank you

  3. I have several furniture items from Wayfair and I’ve been pleased with everything. I’m in the Wayfair Homemakers program so I do the blog posts for them and then get gift cards, which makes it extra nice. 😉

Hope you’re enjoying your quiet day. I’ve had a non-stop action weekend (all fun stuff) but today is spent at home. It was clear this morning, so I got three more containers of flowers planted, Brian got peppers planted and the yard mowed – then it started pouring. We’re in for rain the rest of today and all day tomorrow. It has been like that here in IL the entire month of May. Anyway, I then got caught up on housework and laundry and am just now relaxing with reading blogs.

  4. My clematis just came into bloom. I really like it so it is nice that it has more flowers this year. Also since you have talked about Wayfair, I have ordered a run from them. Hasn’t arrived yet. Hope it turns out good because I might need more to protect my carpet from my handicapped daughter drools food stuff all over the carpet til it looks like I never clean.

  5. Love the chair, it look very roomy and comfortable. My clematis has not shown any flowers yet, there are plenty of buds so I think I will be in for a show when they do materialize!

The weather here in Southern Ontario is okay but certainly not up to the temperature it should be for this time of year. After our horrible winter I was hoping for a good spring and summer.
Love all the pictures of Charlie and Ivy, they are so sweet both of them.

  6. Quiet day for me and mine today in Tennessee but very hot and humid .Glad to be feeling better the last few weeks .

    Enjoy your pets today !
    Love the new chair !!!

  7. What a nice chair and what a great price. I need to replace a couple of chairs and will take a look at this chair. I have purchased quite a few chairs from Wayfair/Joss & Main and have been pleased with the chairs, the pricing, and the prompt delivery. Charlie will be delighted with your daughter’s new chair!

Beautiful hot day here with no rain in the forecast. We just returned from the Memorial Day service at the National Cemetery; what a lovely service. It was so nice to see young children stand at attention and recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the National Anthem. I reminded myself to be more appreciative of the many freedoms I have as a direct result of the sacrifice of these soldiers.

Hope you have a relaxing, peaceful Memorial Day. Take care.

  8. Andrew making memories as he digs for treasures in the flower pots. I am sure this special day, will be something he will always remember, as young children tend to do. It really is the little things that count. Love that you posted this.
Charlie may not be looking into the camera, but his big black eyes show up with such expression. He is so cute, and Ivy with the mouse in the tub. Cute, cute, cute!!!! Got my flowers planted yesterday, but I have to buy a few more, I forgot several pots that were still in the shed. Rain today, but good to go flower shopping again anyway..Hugs from

  9. So glad you didn’t get any flooding in your parts of Tulsa when they had to open the dam to let some of the water out so it wouldn’t break the dam! I was worried about you when I saw that news on TV!
