I’ve finished my boho bead decor garland I was working on yesterday.
I worked on it about an hour two days in a row, trying my best to keep Ivy out of it. She kept sticking her paws up over the arm of my chair trying to get at it.
Instructions For Wooden Bead Strand:
- Random wooden beads with hole in the center
- Jute or other string
There really was no planning to it. I just used various wooden beads I had on hand and strung them randomly on a piece of jute.
I think I’ll use something else next time, as toward the end the jute severed under the strain of going through the needle. Really frustrating!
It was fun and relaxing to make. I sat listening to a news station on my computer while I worked.
I love this easygoing bohemian style. Anything goes. Nothing is perfect. But then life isn’t perfect!
If you don’t want to bother with making the bead garland you could just hang a necklace instead.
How to Decorate in Bohemian Style:
- 1) Boho interiors are usually full of color and pattern
- 2) Lighting typically gives off soft and diffused light
- 3) Decor is usually global in style
- 4) Lots of house plants and greenery
- 5) Beads and macrame are usually part of the mix
Just decorate with what makes you happy and makes you feel relaxed in your home. If you like it, then that’s all that matters.
You can mix styles and go for the eclectic look.
I like what I refer to as flea market decorating. If you’ve read this blog long, then you know I collect “flea market relatives.”
By flea market relatives, I mean old black and white or sepia photos of people from another time. Wearing vintage clothing and looking somber.
I like to buy these photos and bring them home. They become part of my flea market family collection!
Sometimes I wonder why people part with their relatives’ photos. Maybe the relative has died, but wouldn’t the family want to keep their photos? I guess not always.
I have a Flea Market Decorating Pinterest board if you’d like to see it.
Another wonderful idea. I love that you are so clever. You have done an awesome job of decorating your home with just the right mix and making it look extraordinary!
You have a unique taste. So charming! I just love the beads and everything about it.
What ever happened to your Boho bedspread? It was sooo beautiful!
Brenda, I love the changes you’ve made. I once decorated “magazine” style, everything just perfect, but then I bought this farmhouse I now live in. I was at a total loss when it came to decorating it and finally decided to just have fun with it. I don’t know anyone else who has a combination of blush and terra cotta paint in their home but it works for me! My new rule is that if I like something it “goes”. Hope you’re having as much fun with your freedom as I am! Have a great weekend!
I love your new Boho look. I have always loved working with beads and always look for different beads when I go to thrift stores or yard sales. Sometimes an old necklace will have some interesting beads. I still like the farmhouse look and that is where I am right now. I do have a little corner where I have a “boho” look.
Hope you are feel well.
Hugs for Charlie and Ms. Ivy
Your pad is way too cool!! It looks great… Love the beads..looks like some work…Enjoy..Enjoy..fab.. :0)
Very pretty, Brenda! I love beads.
Brenda, I love to see all of your new projects. I might have to sting myself some beads to decorate my room. I hope that you are well and that Charlie and Ivy are as well. Have a great weekend.
I haven’t visited you in so long, Brenda! Hope you are well.
Love the beads and beading. My daughter beads. She’s made me some amazing jewelry! <3 I wear it all the time.
Everything looks lovely, as ever!

I struggle with intense chronic lupus pain so when I can’t sleep (which is every night), I browse through your lovely reads. I refer to reading those blogs as “creative avoidance.” The pain is no less intense but my mind is able to relax and enjoy the lovely reads. Thank you.
You’re very welcome! I try to keep adding to them.
Love your new Boho look. You have some very pretty beads, and stringing them does sound relaxing. xo Laura
Did stringing the beads bother your hands? I have arthritis. . . .
No, it didn’t. But they were beads with pretty big holes and I only worked an hour at a time.
I enjoy your Lovely Reads as well. Love to wander through some of the blogs when I can’t sleep.
I’m not sure if it’s on Netflix or not but there is a show called “ Polardark” ( think I got title right) done by the BBC, a historical period piece , on its fifth season that looks very interesting. I love history so that works for me. Hope you’re having a good day.
I like your Lovely Reads, too. Some days I want more to read and go wandering through your list.
Love the beads. I’m sure Ivy does as she had a paw in them.
Hope you’re having a good day!
Immediately thought of you when I saw fair trade Himalayan salt serenity bowls on sowellmade.com. Kind of expensive but beautiful.
They’re actually salt LAMP bowls so they have that lovely glow.
I love seeing how you decorate. You are very creative! I also enjoy your like your Lovely Reads, and I am missing looking at the book blogs. Did you remove it or am I just not seeing it? Thank you.
I had to redo the entire page. I will put the book blogs back on. Forgot them.
I added as many book blogs as I could find off hand.
I. Hope. This is. Not. The myrna. M. Who. Abuses. Disabled. People.
What?
Hi Brenda. The string of beads looks great. I love the variety of beads. It looks so good with the throw. But might I suggest that you do something in the room that is asymetrical? You have so many great elements in the living room and dining room now, but it’s all so balanced and that could be keeping the boho vibe from really coming through! Maybe you could shake things up a bit by letting the string of beads droop a bit longer on one side of the throw than the other, or put the macrame hangings at different heights. Raise something up, drop something down for a bit more yin and yang! If you don’t like it, you can change it back. There are no rules, to be sure!
Actually I didn’t intend to have the bead strand be symmetrical. I thought it wasn’t till I got down and looked. Might have to get up there again.
Love it!Following your lead, I’ve added some blue and yellow to my mostly buffalo plaid decor.
You are so creative! Love the new look!
