Last night as I was watching the last episodes of “Broadchuch” Ivy was standing on my dresser to the left of my bed looking puzzled.
She was staring at the green boho dream catcher I made last week hanging on the adjacent wall.
Previously there had been a small table there at the end where she lifted herself to play with the yarn at the bottom of the dream catcher.
But I had outwitted her, as least for now. I had moved the table, much to her chagrin.
She kept staring at the dream catcher hanging on the wall, then she’d glance down at the spot where the table was in consternation. Back and forth she looked. Where did my landing spot go, I could see she was wondering.
Hard to outwit a cat, I tell you. She probably will beat me on this one yet.
Just when I think I’ve figured out a way to keep her out of my plants, she manages to find a way. I move my plants about like musical chairs, trying to keep her from digging out the top layer of dirt.
This is all she seems to want to do, dig in the dirt and scatter it about the floor. Maybe she’s got that from her mama, who also likes to dig in the dirt. But her mama does it for a reason. Ivy just does it because she’s Ivy.
I finished watching Broadchurch last night. As with many of the Netflix series I watch, I find myself sad and crying at the end. Partially because my time with the characters and the story line is over. Partly because the writing and acting is so superb I am deeply moved.
My favorite character was the actor who played Detective Ellie Miller. She was so funny and showed her emotions flagrantly. Criminals saw her blatant dry wit mixed with biting sarcasm.
And that doesn’t take away from Detective Alec Hardy, played by David Tennant. Alec was one of those characters who you remember by the rolling of his eyes and the emotional waving of his hands and arms when he was upset.
Alec was one of those characters you might start out disliking, but then after a time you come to see what kindness and good lies beneath the surface. He barked orders and seemed gruff, but underneath he was a man who just deeply cared.
I think when you watch Netflix shows, binge watching them without commercial interruption, you become so involved in the plot line and characters. Your feelings are just closer to the surface. At least that’s the way it is for me
You feel for and with them.
If you haven’t seen Broadchurch and you like to watch crime dramas, this is an excellent one to watch. I may just have to watch it again.
I began watching “Unbelievable” yesterday afternoon in the living room. I often have two Netflix shows going in two rooms.
I didn’t realize that it was only released on Friday. It is based on a true story and is about women who are raped and the effects on them. How rape is treated in a different way from say, murder. It is another tier and not seen by some as quite as important.
As the site Popsugar writes:
Yes, Netflix’s Show Unbelievable Will Make You Angry — You Need to Watch It Anyway
Got to get moving or we’ll be late for Charlie’s land training.
Forgive me if other people have mentioned this, but you might enjoy Acorn or Brit Box. We’re watching Longmire again on Netflix, and then may drop it: we enjoy British tv so much. Like you: the imperfect people are more realistic, and there’s less vulgarity, both in language and sex.
I watched Broadchurch and didn’t like it as much as everyone else did. It started out strong but when they tangled up the storyline with another murder I lost interest. I just wanted it to be about Danny.
I too LOVED Broadchurch and am in Season 3, episode 6. I’m already suffering withdrawals! Also LOVED The Killing with its terrific intertwining storylines and great characters. Big Little Lies was another fave with a juicy plot, stellar cast and some great music. The Canadian series, Schitt’s Creek is hilarious and the cast unforgettable as is the wardrobe. Ditto for Grace and Frankie. And of course, Downton Abbey. What a sprawling epic series!
I’ve printed out all these comments! There are so many good suggestions.. I want to watch them all! I’ve only watched a couple.. I’m not real keen on the British series as sometimes their accents are so strong it’s hard to understand them. I started watching I-Land which is really good and very different. I’m SO GLAD that Goliath has another season coming as my husband and I just LOVED that show and binge watched it together! I wasn’t a real fan of Billy Bob Thornton until I watched Goliath.. and now I want more of him in this type of drama. It’s humor and drama and surprises all wrapped in one! Marilyn
Have you thought about maybe a little garden for ivy to keep her out of yours? A disposable turkey or lasagna pan planted with cat grass that she could roll in and nibble on and perhaps a fresh catnip plant? She may lose interest in yours.
Season 1 of Broadchurch was remade in the US as Gracepoint. David Tennant played the lead again but with an American accent and everyone else was recast. Identical script but nowhere near as good as Broadchurch. Slight twist on who killed Danny that was a bit better though.
Love the actress Olivia Colman! You might like her in The Flowers on netflix . Check out her extensive filmography!
Will do!
I was wondering how you were keeping Ivy out of all those plants! I wonder if you could put something on the soil to keep her from digging? I just googled it and here’s what I found:
Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the leaves of houseplants and your cat will back away pretty quickly. Cats also hate the smell of citrus. Put orange and lemon peels in your pots along with the plants to help deter them. Another option is spraying the leaves directly with diluted lemon juice or orange oil.Apr 4, 2018
Will have to try that. I just bought another beverage stand from Tuesday Morning yesterday to keep her away from some of them.
You are right. UNBELIEVABLE is so worth watching. It’s a true account of several womens experiences and the two women detectives that persist on their cases.until it’s solved. Looking for another try Victim 8.
Thanks!
My husband and I were BIG Broadchurch Fans. So sad when it ended.
Your cat is adorable.
I enjoyed Broadchurch very much and I think that there is a second season. Hinterland is similar and also very good…I highly recommend it. What a funny kitty…there is no end to her mischief.
There were 3 seasons in Broadchurch and I watched them all.
I love hearing about Ivy’s antics…glad to hear Charlie is having some good days..
I just bing watched Unbelievable this weekend…like you I get so attached with the characters that I get emotional…
I’m glad you’re enjoying Netflix….
I can just imagine Ivy looking up and down up and down trying to figure out where her table went. That is so funny. My fur kids keep me on my toes as well, digging in plants, chasing skinks on the porch and into my pots, going under and behind the bed etc.
Both shows sound very interesting. I am glad that you enjoyed them. Have a great day!
Amazon Prime Video offers an amazing amount of police and crime shows from Great Britain, Scotland, Wales, Australia, etc. Vera on Acorn is my favorite of all of them with a lot of series. I am watching City Homicide and London Kills now. Acorn is included with prime and so is Britbox where I watch Vera. They movies are also very good. Happy watching.
On Netflix watch the movie “River” with my favorite actress, Nicola Walker. Very moving movie. She is also in Last Tango in Halifax another good one.
I didn’t know Acorn was included in Prime…will have to check on that..thanks..
I enjoy watching British shows..
Me too.
Broadchurch was a great show. Both actors are in other series. You should look them up. I just finished watching three seasons of The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime. Can’t wait for season 4 in November. That Ivy keeps you entertained. xo Laura
I’ve noticed in Netflix shows that the same actors crop up time and time again in others.
I am watching “Goliath” on Amazon Prime starring Billy Bob Thornton. I must say it is excellent and I find myself wanting to simply marathon it until very late at night. I did not think I would like it but my daughter said it was very good and she was right.
I love this show, too….new season coming soon…
Also on Amazon prime videos, I loved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
And Jack Ryan!
We seem to have somewhat the same taste in our Netflix viewing. I can recommend three that I don’t think you’ve mentioned. Happy Valley, Hinterland and Retribution. I also enjoyed Greenleaf–being introduced to one of the south’s megachurches and the family who are in charge.
Best,
Bonnie
Already watched Retribution. Absolutely loved it! Will check into the others.
Googled them. Yes, they’re right up my alley!
Always good to get another binge worthy offering. I also liked The Killing which takes place in the U.S.. It always seems to be raining in this series but I like rain!!
Best,
Bonnie
The Killing is on Amazon Prime.

I’ve watched all of those & agree, very good!
After my cat, Munchkin, dug and threw dirt all over my dining room from some floor pots, and I do mean all over, I put large rocks on top of the dirt, large smooth ones where she can’t get a purchase on the edge and it stopped her. Of course, you have smaller plants, but a few well placed large rocks on the dirt may just slow her down. As long as she can’t move the weight of the rocks, you are good.
Great idea, Eileen!
