Well, we just spent another night with the window air conditioners. Apparently one reason my central air conditioning isn’t working is because the inside of the unit in the closet is filthy.
I’m grateful for the additional window air conditioner, because it is big and cools more of the apartment than the smaller one I had put in my bedroom window last year.
Two guys, Nathan and his boss who floats between properties, worked all afternoon yesterday trying to clean the inside unit. They used 4 bottles of spray cleaner and it still isn’t clean enough to turn back on.
If they turn it on they said it would freeze right back up again. What a mess. So they quit at quitting time and said they’d bring more cans of cleaner today.
To say I’m frustrated is an understatement. I took Charlie for his therapy yesterday, spent close to a hundred dollars for it, only to bring him home to this mess.
The air conditioning unit worked for awhile yesterday morning but then froze up again, which caused them to look more closely at the inside unit.
Last year when the insulation company was in here before they added insulation, they told me the inside of my unit in the closet was filthy.
I cleaned it as best I could, because my telling the front office about it produced no help at all. Nope, things don’t get serviced around here. They only pay attention once things stop working.
Now they’re having to clean something that I would imagine hasn’t been cleaned in a very long time.
They’re rushing around now because an appraiser is coming at 1:30 today and I’m one of three units they want to let him look at. And if they can’t get this thing fixed before then, they have to settle for letting him see an apartment that maybe isn’t quite as nice as mine.
I think I’ve begun to put some of the puzzle pieces together after talking to various people who work for the current company.
The company that bought this property is an acquisition company. They go in and buy up properties, fix them up, then sell them. They take over the end of this month.
When I asked how they’d work on the apartments here with people living in them, I was told that they’d probably fix up some apartments, move people into them, and then fix up the apartments they moved them out of.
The condition this property is in apparently did not deter them. For instance this is just an example of what the back of my apartment looks like.
These are roots from trees that were growing from the other side of my patio. The stumps are still there. And one is not dead. I keep trying to kill the new growth, but half of the tree is in the yard of the guy who lives behind me.
Nathan has drilled down into the stump quite a few times and poured something into the holes and still can’t kill it. There are two stumps, but the other one appears not to have new growth.
The tree that isn’t dead has roots that have cracked the cement and runs across my patio and ends with what you see above. The boards are all rotted and some roots are intertwined in the wood as it goes up toward my bedroom window.
What on earth will they do about that? Can that be fixed?
When the trees were finally taken down after three and a half years of my complaining about them, I asked the tree company if they’d take the stumps out. I said I would personally pay them to do it.
But there are two electrical generators or compressors or something on the other side of my fence in the alley. And because of the placement of them they can’t remove the stumps.
Well, I guess we’ll see how it all pans out. I just want my central air working and everyone out of here.
Charlie doesn’t do well with the window air conditioners, though I’m not sure why. But it causes him to cough more for some reason.
But you do what you have to do. I just hope this is straightened out sooner rather than later.
Well, they’re here to work on it, so I’ll let you know what happens tomorrow. I’m taking Charlie and going down to the office.
