It was hot yesterday. Charlie had kept me up much of Saturday night and I just didn’t feel like doing much.
I did go out and take Kendra lunch over at her flip house. She was working alone and I know what she likes at a certain restaurant. So I drove through a barbecue place and picked up a meal for her.
It was a quiet afternoon and I could barely keep my eyes open when I got home. But Charlie was restless and I can’t sleep during the day anyway.
So I got my garden snips and wandered around out on the patio.
I ended up cutting stems of herbs, flowers and random hosta leaves. Then I brought them inside and arranged them in a few jars and pitchers. I grabbed up a couple of owl figurines and mixed them in.
I had picked up this fall bird painting on glass for $2.99 and had no idea what to do with it. So I put it up against the back of the kitchen counter and arranged the vessels and decor in front of it.
It was getting late in the afternoon, so I turned off the lamp and added a battery operated candle.
The herbs I mixed are rosemary and lemon verbena. Sprigs of rosemary have a sharp savory scent and the lemon verbena are heavenly sweet and fragrant.
Sometimes, on a lazy summer afternoon, it’s just fun to snip what’s still blooming or doing well in the garden. Bring your collection in and put the stems and leaves in water and enjoy it a day or two.
Charlie is doing okay. Now if only he would sleep during the night. But he is fighting the cough and I can’t blame him for wanting outside in the fresh air.
Fall is just around the corner. Happy Memorial Day.
