Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. It will be different this year because of COVID-19.
But it’s also different for some of you, and certainly me, because we are alone. Inevitably we may remember feelings of a past love anyway.
I suppose that’s natural.
I wrote a post earlier about what to do on Valentine’s Day if you’re alone. I’ve explained how to honor thyself and thus treat yourself to a special day.
Differing Feelings About Valentine’s Day:
What I didn’t do in that post was delve into your differing feelings on this day. How bittersweet they may be. Or how you may be swept up in grief.
Love, as we all know, is complicated. It feels good. And it also hurts like hell. When you’re in the beginning throes of burgeoning love, the world is alive with color.
You can’t stop smiling. The stars seem to shine brighter. Everything around you is touched by that magic cupid’s bow of love.
But then sometimes things change dramatically. That love can turn into grief or bitterness.
To Have Loved & Lost:
Alfred Lord Tennyson is famous for this quote: “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”
That is probably true. I am glad I had the experience. That there was a time when it seemed like my feet didn’t touch the floor because I felt so happy.
Though those feelings are dimmed because of how things ended, I can’t deny those feelings were once there.
Choose To Remember The Good Times:
So let’s choose to only remember the good times on this Valentine’s Day.
It’s okay to recall those feelings that made you feel light as a butterfly. Floating through the air, flitting from place to place, alight with love. It’s okay to remember.
Here are a few quotes about the differing feelings you may have tomorrow. Allow yourself to feel any that apply. Allow the words to fill you up and then let them go.
“At times in life you have to leave people where they left you.” – Angel Moreira
“What the heart has once owned and had, it shall never lose.” – Henry Ward Beecher
“Though these words will never find you, I hope that you knew I was thinking of you today….. and that I was wishing you every happiness.
Love Always, The girl you loved once.” ― Ranata Suzuki
