  1. Your blog title reminded me of when I was young, driving a VW bug and many jaunts with my sidekick, Mom to the local nurseries in our area. We went in “only to look” and came out with every manner of plant, some for me, some for Mom and some to share. There was no plan (or limit) on how many or how BIG some of our finds were. We still laugh about all the trees we stuffed in, pots sideways on the seat and the rest hanging out the windows!

  2. Good evening Brenda, happy Easter to you and Charlie and Ivy,

All roads can definitely lead to your happy place! Enjoy the garden center and all of its beautiful flowers! Life is short and the season of this beauty seems even shorter, you need to enjoy it all that you can.

As for repotting your tree, please, please do do try to do it yourself. Ask one of your daughters or grandchildren to help you. Why not have your daughters help when they come for lunch? I am sure that they would be more than happy to help so that you do not hurt yourself.

Have a wonderful weekend and a very happy Easter Sunday!

  3. Brenda, I have never heard of golden pennies. Could you show a picture and show us what it is. Opps, I just read from a reader, it is called creeping Jennie. So…..it is a ground cover??? Does it come back year after year??? Is it invasive?

  4. Still dormant for the most part. I do see tulip tips and facts starting. Our hoop houses aren’t in operation yet, and our one nursery business opened its gift shop, but no plants yet. The gift shop was full of lovely things, but very expensive, so I just admired.

  5. Not even my bad seasonal allergies can make me resist the pull of the garden magnet. And my car too will go on its own to nurseries, Lowe’s and Home Depot.

  6. It will be awhile before I can do anything with my plants here in WV. We have had a hard freeze the past few nights and the days have been in the thirties!

  7. Our local garden center just opened yesterday and I know they won’t have much yet, plus it’s still way too early to plant here, so…I will wait 2-3 more weeks. I did stop by the garden center at Home Depot yesterday though, just to pick up a hanging basket of pansies. That’s the only plant that’s safe outside here right now. It’s warm this weekend, but getting colder and lots of rain this coming week.

  8. Lowe’s has lots of pineapple sage today.
Didn’t realize cintronella was scented geranium! Thank you!!

    1. Though many of its names leave the impression that it contains citronella, which is a common ingredient in insect repellent, the plant is actually a variety of scented geranium that simply produces a citronella-like scent when the leaves are crushed.

  9. Here in Canada we are still waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before we can do anything in the garden. We also want to leave the dead leaves on the garden for a couple more weeks so as not to disturb the bees and insects that overwinter there. This year I will buy all perennials that will attract bees and butterflies. I already have a bee and insect ‘house’ to put on the fence. It should be interesting to watch. I love your Ginkgo Biloba Jade Butterfly tree, I wonder if it would stand our cold winters here. I will have to look that one up.
We are almost in total lockdown again so there will be no trips to the garden centers yet. I get my first vaccine on Monday but otherwise I only make trips to the grocery store.

  10. Alaska here and we still have 10 inches of snow covering our yard. The Days are getting longer though so it won’t be long before our glorious summer begins. It is so much fun to watch your garden grow in the hot sun.

  11. We have had a hard freeze here the last 2 nights, so no plants out yet. Still working on weeding and preparing the landscape beds in front of the house. Oh when I think back to the days of working out in the yard all day long and enjoying it so much! Now, its an hour or two at a time and twice as long to recuperate. Aging is not fun.

    1. It is usually called creeping jenny in the garden centers. I started buying it after seeing it in Brenda’s garden. It does look like little golden pennies! Makes a great trailing plant in containers or a ground cover. Very hardy, too. Mine came back strong early this spring in Texas.

  12. You’ve been working very hard!!! I’m sure you’ve enjoyed every minute it might be time to take a little respite today. Let you body recover while you ponder ideas and such.

  13. Once you start your gardening, its almost impossible stopping. I’ll do a little bit more over here and pretty soon you are forced to stop. Been there, done that. Everything is looking good.
