This morning I woke up and felt a warmth against my back. Like a little lump of coal. I reached back and of course it was Gracie. Ivy isn’t the type of cat to do that, but Gracie is a little love bug.
Then we had breakfast and chores were completed and I sat down with my cup of coffee.
And then came the hijinks. Tummies filled, their morning antics began. The kitties were doing everything but somersaults.
Hissing and fighting and spitting ensued. Ivy is big, but Gracie can hold her own. She’s a little spitfire when she wants to be.
This is a little blurry, but you can’t tell cats to stop their fight just so Mama can get a picture of it.
Now it’s over. Heavyweight Champion Ivy Lou versus Little Spitfire Gracie Mae have gone to their own respective morning spots.
Ivy is on top of the cat tower in the dining room. And Gracie keeps walking across me.
What I’m Watching:
I watched the last episode of the 4th season of “Billions” last night. I’ve enjoyed it. I don’t know if the 5th season is available yet or not. But when it was over, it didn’t automatically switch over to another episode.
So I’m going to have to find another show to watch tonight. I’m considering this one.
American Rust with Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney.
In an economically devastated Pennsylvania steel town, a complicated and compromised chief of police (Jeff Daniels) is forced to decide how far he’s willing to go when the son of the woman he loves (Maura Tierney) is accused of murder.
A harrowing journey into the lives of a small town with big secrets, where people are driven by loyalty, love and desperation – and bad choices come far too easy.
Have any of you watched it? There are episodes for Season 1 right now. And no indication if there will be more. Such is the world of streaming TV.
It is an American television drama series created by Dan Futterman based on the novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer.
What I’m Reading:
I’m currently reading (and nearly finished with) “Bag Of Bones” by Stephen King. And I ordered a few more of his books I want to reread and a few that I haven’t read. He tends to write books with many pages to savor, and I like that.
King is not all spooky shaking-in-your-shoes horror. His current New York Times bestseller is “Billy Summers.” And it’s about a hitman. But, I will note, a hitman who only wants to kill bad people.
I read that one and gave it to my neighbor to read. She loves Stephen King’s books.
I’m about finished with “Bag Of Bones”. And sometime today the book “Maid,” should arrive. A true story I’m looking forward to reading.
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND INSPIRATION FOR THE NETFLIX LIMITED SERIES, HAILED BY ROLLING STONE AS “A GREAT ONE.”
“A single mother’s personal, unflinching look at America’s class divide, a description of the tightrope many families walk just to get by, and a reminder of the dignity of all work.”
“Maid” might just be one of those books that all women should read. About struggle and hardship and motherhood. And oh yes, that good old American class divide.
I was a single mother at age 17 without a pot to piss in. But I persevered, as did this young mother. And I’m ready and waiting to read her story.
Got a late start today. My neighbor called to ask which day of the week she should schedule her flu shot for. Because I’ll be driving her.
And did you notice the graphic I created with the kitties at the top of the blog?

I love anything Jeff Daniels is in, and will probably watch that series, too. The Maid will go on my reading list. Love the new graphic – it truly represents your cozy home!
Love the new graphic! I googled to see where those shows you mentioned are steaming. We don’t have Hulu, but we have Netflix and Prime. Looks like the first season of American Rust is on Prime. I’ve also wondered about the Maid movie on Netflix. That one was already on my watchlist, but I’ll check out the book now, too!
I’m glad you pointed out the graphic because I totally missed it. So cute!
I am going to have to check out streaming tv (no cable). Some of the series you watch look very good.
I noticed the kitties first thing! I love the new look! It’s very personalized, as they do resemble your sweet babies. I love hearing what the cats are up to, lol. They are so entertaining!
I love your new graphic. It’s adorable. My tiny little runt, Rosebud, a three legged tuxedo sleeps in the curve of my back or leg. She loved to be cozy and warm. I know I’m being used but I don’t mind one bit. Love your stories about the girls.
I loved Maid on Netflix, a great series that was based on a true story..Andie McDowell was awesome character in the series & her real life daughter played the main character….
I enjoy reading about your kitties antics!🤗
I love the graphic! Work has been so busy I haven’t had the time to comment but I keep up daily and wanted to let you know I was so surprised when you posted that you had adopted Gracie Mae. Surprised and thrilled. She and Ivy are adorable and I’m so happy for all of you. Also, you truly recommend the best books. I don’t have time to read as many as you do, but the ones I have read that you recommend have been wonderful. Well, just wanted to pop in and say “hi!”
I love your new graphic… so sweet. I started watching the movie “The Maid” on Netflix but had to stop. I felt SO BAD for her and all the adversity she is facing… I should could not bear it. It’s alot like the movie Happy, which is also true. I may go back and watch, but knowing it’s true and so many have to go through this, just makes me sick to my stomach. Marilyn
I love the little graphic at the top with the two kitties I think it’s funny how Ivy and Gracie will fight tooth and nail and then call a truce and go off and nap. Do you think after they are done napping they remember that they were going at each other? Does either of them think that she has won or lost? Questions only a cat can answer! (If only they would!) Alas, the mind of a feline remains a mystery.
Brenda I enjoy visiting your cozy home with you every day! My husband watches Billions and the new season will resume early 2022. I am waiting for Yellowstone and Ozark to return. I do like binge watching better than waiting for even a week in between shows. Some shelves are a little empty here. I am not panic buying, I always stock up in the Spring and Fall. I don’t want to shop for staples in the cold or hot! Have a good week and continue to enjoy the kitties!
Love the stories about Ivy and Gracie. I love cats but have not had the courage to become a cat parent, tho I have had cat’s over the years. My love was Josie and I had her 19 years. I watched the series Maid on Netflix. It stars Andie McDowell and her real life daughter. Enjoyed it.
Hi Brenda 🌼
Love ❤ the kitty-cat 😺🐈 graphics ,,,,,, so cute!!
Tried watching American Rust. Couldn’t get into it. Then I put on (cable) film Mr. Nobody. Wasn’t for me either. Happens sometimes re movies.
Interested to see “Maid” film. Will not be for awhile though. Maybe in 2022. Hope you comment on the book. I usually do not buy them though.
Photo of Ivy & Gracie is a bit scary. Not ever liking when they get into serious spats. 😒 You take such great care of the girls Brenda ,,,,,, they look so very healthy and beautiful!!! 💗
Ivy and Gracie are so cute. The Maid is based on a true story and it is such a good story. What this poor women has to go through to support herself and her 3 year old after leaving a abusive relationship is heartbreaking but amazing to see how she preserves. Have a great new week.
Had to comment before even starting to read today’s post. I LOVE your new header with the fur babies. Too cute!
Yes, the graphic is adorable. Happy Monday!
It’s wonderful that the kitties are getting along so well now. Your little graphic of them is so fitting.
I just watched The Affair and Maura Tierney was the wife the husband left for someone else. She was wonderful in it. I will have to check out this new series you are watching.
