I had a lovely Thanksgiving. Just me and the kitties. I lolled around looking online and finally got up and put together a tuna casserole.

This recipe is so good I could have it every week.

I had tuna casserole, wild rice, green beans and cornbread. And later I baked a chocolate cake.

It was a nice slow relaxing day. Just the kind I truly love. No mishaps and no disasters. Just a simple day.

I did decide to get out my tabletop tree. Figured when I take it down I can just put it in the box and in the back of my SUV for the move in late January.

And I also brought out some other small trees and I’ll probably scatter those around as well.

Christmas Lights:

What I truly enjoy are the lights. Especially next to my portable fireplace which has a quite realistic flame. And it will heat my entire apartment!

It is a tranquil and pleasing scene to have them both on. And I need a bit of serenity before the madness of packing and preparation to make the move.

During the Black Friday sale I ordered a soft carrier to transport Gracie when it’s time to move.

I had a Kindle I bought in 2016. And I tore this place apart looking for it and its charger. Never found it.

So I’m looking at new Kindles. Perhaps I’ll buy one for myself for Christmas during the Cyber Monday sales at Amazon.com. Cyber Monday is November 29th this year.

I’m giving all my books away after I read them.

I tried reading on my iPad, but it’s so big it’s painful for my hands. As I like to read in bed at night, it’s just too hard to hold for very long.

Having a Kindle, I won’t be buying books. I’ve always been able to find free ebooks to read.

If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can read free with Prime Reading.

Read Free With Prime Reading:

What exactly is Prime Reading? Think of it as a private library that lets Prime members read free. Prime Reading includes a selection of more than 2,500 books and magazines and is one of the Prime benefits you can share in your household.

How do I get started? Make sure you are logged in to your Amazon account and your Prime membership is current. Then go to www.amazon.com/primereading to start browsing the titles currently available in Prime Reading.

When you find a book, comic or magazine that looks tempting, simply click “Read for Free,” and the item will be available for download. Or click “Read and Listen for Free” for the titles that have Audible companions.

Cutting Corners:

I need to cut corners here and there due to the more expensive rent I’ll be paying at the new apartment.

Did you shop the Black Friday sale? If so, what did you buy? Don’t forget Cyber Monday!

  1. Just a thought,,, they make stands for devices for reading in bed so you don’t have to hold them. Maybe something like that could help?

  2. Glad you had a nice day, Brenda! I’m also thinking about getting another Kindle. Mine broke years ago, but now, I don’t want to accumulate any more books, unless they are special, or for a coffee table. I’ve hinted to hubby, so hopefully it will be my Hanukkah gift this year.

  3. I bought a Kindle Paperwhite. I love it! It is small but you can adjust the font size. I like it because it fits in my purse. I also bought a small case for it. I see they are having Cyber Monday sales on it! Check it out. pam

  4. My Kindle came in so handy during the pandemic when my library was closed, but now I’m back to in-person borrowing from the shelves and I much prefer that. However, I will still use my Kindle when illness or a nor’easter prevents me from venturing out. You will probably find yours when you are packing to move. lol! Your Thanksgiving meal sounds delicious and your day sounded lovely and peaceful.

  5. I don’t have a Kindle or any kind of e-reader. Digital reading doesn’t appeal to me at all – I have to have a real book in my hands. Same with magazines. My husband is the same way. You should be able to get free digital books from your library, too.

You mentioned a soft carrier for Gracie when you move. What about Ivy? I have a soft carrier that I use to transport the cats to and from the vet.

Yes, I shopped online for Black Friday. Got my son a pair of sneakers for his bday (in Dec), some items from King Arthur Flour ,and some art journal supplies from The Washi Tape Store and Paper World.

  6. After being away from blogging for a while, I didn’t realize you were moving. Good for you- I know you have had many ups and downs with getting things taken care of there with not much help from management.
Sounds like you had a good day. I have not had tuna casserole in years but used to love it. Hubby does not like it at all so I never make it.
I hope you have a great Sunday- Diana

  7. I saved 100%! I stayed home , no shopping. We have 2 grandsons and our daughter sends us the link from Amazon to order for Christmas or birthdays. We usually get them pajamas, a book and a toy. We buy clothes and goodies for them throughout the year. My husband and I really only get things when we need them. Kids are always growing and need new clothes often, we don’t! I laugh thinking of a while after we got married and were able to buy a matching room of furniture. We thought we made it not using hand me downs! Now that is not the style! I am a homebody and not interested in all the hustle and bustle of shopping.

  8. Brenda, I’ve had a Kindle for probably 8 years and love it. You don’t need a special charger, it charges any standard USB plugin. Any of your phone chargers for android will work on them unless they are the new USB-C which won’t fit. (And if you haven’t bought a new phone in the past couple of years you probably don’t have that)
I don’t think I’ve ever used the charger that actually came with the Kindle to charge mine in all these years.

  9. I just purchased the 2021 paperwhite kindle. It’s an upgrade from my previous kindle. I have the Libby app on my iPhone. I get ebooks from the library and they are automatically downloaded to my kindle. The new kindle (104 $ on sale) has a softer light and is a little bit bigger but still ergonomically easy to hold. I love my kindle.

  10. I read on my iPad and use a special pillow to hold it too. I have 2 different types of pillows. One is a solid shaped foam and the other is a pillow style. I think it used to be called a go-go pillow? Not 100% sure anymore. I also use our library system to download ebooks and audio books. I’ve used Amazon to purchase books before, but canceled the subscription due to pricing and changed to Chirp instead. Generally though I mainly use the library/Libby app.

  11. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. I have a Kindle Fire HD8 (7th generation) and I LOVE it so much! It has Alexa which I use quite abit to answer questions I have. I can ask it how far is it from Point A City to Point B City if I want to go somewhere. There are alot of free ebook places. I use FreeBooksy and Book Bub (I think that’s the name of it) and libraries have Libby which is an app you can get on your smart phone to download thousands of free books.. you check them out. Trouble is, the app won’t work on Kindle as it’s a google app, and Kindles don’t use google. There is a way around it which I found on YouTube as to how to get Google Play on your Kindle! I haven’t done it yet but will pretty soon. I’ve found that I don’t like reading books on my Kindle for some reason. I forget that I’m reading the book, and can’t remember where I left off, and then when there is a list of 20 books I’ve downloaded, I can’t even remember which one I’ve started! I like REAL books and I just go to the library.. I can order just about book I want and pick it up at the library. I never buy books. You can buy many many paperbacks on Amazon for 99 cents to download to your tablet if you want to. I’ve done that a few times. I think if I had a list of what I’m reading on my tablet, it would help! I think the pillow idea is great for reading in bed, as when I try to lay down and read on my tablet. the print wants to turn to the side, and then I turn it, and unless you hold it a certain way, it turns again. My hands start going numb too. You can read reviews on YouTube of the different generation Kindles. I love my 7th generation and it holds a charge for days. Marilyn

  12. Check out your local public library. I have the card but have downloaded their app and can read or listen to thousands of books. It’s fabulous and free.

  13. Gracie and the table top tree! Oh boy. I am sure she is going to enjoy helping you with that. I have had cats that totally ignored Christmas trees and just enjoyed laying under them among the presents and those that totally destroyed them by knocking them over and taking off and breaking ornaments. Last tree I had I used the non breakable colored ornaments. They used them for toys but at least they didn’t break. The younger of the cats in my crew now definitely would tear up a tree. So, I strategically place decor where they can’t get to it. A few years ago I saw online where people were hanging trees from their ceiling and some even hung them upside down! That trend didn’t last. So glad your Thanksgiving was relaxing and you enjoyed your meal!

  14. I’ve never shopped on Black friday, just don’t like crowds and being pushed around, or standing in line, like I sometimes see on TV. Last year I did a little shopping on cyber Monday for myself, something was on sale, don’t even remember what I bought, maybe an art Journal. We don’t buy for the kids anymore, because our sons and the daughter-in-laws, and the 8 grand children are all older and they get gifts of cash. They enjoy that more than gifts, as they rather buy for themselves.
The only shopping I’ll be doing, is picking out a Christmas tree this Sunday, (we buy at the same tree farm each year) and then, DH and I will shop the week before Christmas for the food and snacks for our family party here at the house. I have many decorations from years past, so don’t need to buy more, in fact I don’t have room for most of my collection here in the mobile home. We already put up our wreath on the front deck, and we usually turn those lights on for the evening starting the day after Thanksgiving.
Ok, probably more than you wanted to hear, guess I got a little carried away here. Sending hugs your way, getting closer to moving day, how exciting for you. I for one can’t wait to see how you will decorate new home…

  15. Your T-Day meal sounds delish! Fireplaces – be they real or artificial, there’s just something about them that is so comforting. Perhaps it is some kind of primal memory from the very earliest days of humankind that draws us to flickering flames, whether real or faux, as when fire was first discovered, bringing not only the invention of cooking food, but light and warmth too. The only shopping I’ve been doing – before Black Friday (deals were being offered just about all November by sellers anyway) – was for some additional things to throw onto my new Christmas tree. As I’m lugging boxes of Christmas items upstairs from the basement I’m discovering items I bought last year on clearance after Christmas and totally forgot about. Not good. I’m going to have to start writing lists down and taping them on my calendar that I check every morning while I’m making my breakfast and one cup of coffee, including this warning: DO NOT BUY ANY MORE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. I’m glad you decided to bring out your Christmas tree this year, despite the looming move. It may not be the same for other people but for me, it just wouldn’t feel like Christmas without a Christmas tree, regardless of size. This is my favorite time of year, despite the early dark, despite the cold. Maybe it’s because the “end of year”/Winter Solstice celebrations we engage in remind me that spring will come again.

  16. One more thing – I have the Kindle Fire HD (9th generation – they have a slightly newer one. I love it! It holds charge for a very long time (like 2-3 days). It even has Alexa if you like that sort of thing. If you decide on a new one – be sure to subscribe to Book Bub – I get tons of free and almost free books through their daily newsletters. Also, I belong to Kindle Unlimited. So many books, so little time – LOL!
