I am a small space decorator and gardener. I love to hang out with my pets and enjoy my solitude.
I am a writer, a reader of books, a lover of nature.
My favorite hobby is photography. I love to view the world through my camera lens and try to convey what I see through photos and words.
Close behind that is reading thrillers and watching Netflix, a recent habit of mine.
I am happiest when my hands are digging in the dirt. When I have colorful visions of flowers, herbs and vegetables in my head just waiting to be planted.
I have been blogging here for over 10 years. I don’t know how I find something to write every day, but somehow I seem to find the words.
Green has become my new favorite color. Since there is so much green in nature and in my patio garden, I suppose that was inevitable. Because my heart lies in nature and gardening.
But I will always have a penchant for red. A dash of red never hurt any room in my opinion.
I am a complete homebody and I never go out at night. I am most peaceful in my little one bedroom apartment with my pets, Charlie and Ivy.
If I’m not reading a book at night, then I’m watching Netflix. I’ve just recently subscribed to Netflix and cut ties with cable TV. I particularly like “Ozark” with Jason Bateman and Laura Linney.
I’m currently watching “Breaking Bad: Season 2.” What a great show!
I’ve always been crazy for plants. I suppose that began in my Granny’s garden all those years ago when I was just a kid. She harvested so many vegetables and fruits and canned them for winter. So there was always good eating, even if we were poor.
I loved to come home from school and have the scent of a blackberry cobbler fill the air when I opened the front door. My, it was tasty!
After high school I went to college and majored in Journalism. At first I targeted social work, but really my heart was in writing. I wrote freelance articles for a time, usually crime-related. But what I really love is blogging, which wasn’t around way back when.
I began this blog in April 2009, though unfortunately there are no posts to read before 2013 because of a technical problem that deleted them.
Oh well, life goes on. I simply started over.
I like to think of my blog as a gathering place for women. I think most of my readers are probably empty-nesters or retirees. So I like to research simple living and frugal tips to help us all make the most of our money.
Decorating has been important to me for as long as I’ve had a home to call my own. Particularly cozily inspired decorating. To me a cozy home has quilts and pretty pillows. Collected displays and vignettes. Simple furniture that is comfortable.
And house plants if you don’t have a kitty that munches on them. I keep mine raised high to keep nosy Ms. Ivy Lou out. But I won’t be surprised if she figures out a way to get to them. So I’m trying to get house plants that are not toxic.
To me pets are family. Of course I spoil them rotten. A cat or a dog is just good company. In fact the best company.
The good life, for me, is being able to sit in my recliner and gaze out at my pretty fenced patio. Through the panes of the French doors I can see my settee over in the corner with colorful pillows.
And in the summer I can see the many plants, vegetables and herbs I’ve planted and try my best to coddle through the hot days of summer.
The good life is looking around me and seeing things that are of importance to me. Like the quilts I’ve made myself. Or any trinket I’ve kept through the years that speaks to me.
I like a home with books and a few antiques and simple furnishings. Cozy is the first word I think of when I am decorating. It is my inclination with every piece of furniture and stack of quilts and assortment of baskets.
I hope I can inspire you to create a cozy home. Not a sometime-in-the-future home. Not a when-I-can-finally-build-a-house home. A home that you currently live in and love. Every home needs someone to love it and make it shine.
