Blogging, Entertainment, & Taking Steps
I saw this question asked on the internet yesterday.
Someone wanted to know if blogging was still worth it in 2022. Is it still a worthwhile project to take on?
Is Blogging Still Worth It In 2022?
Yes, the answer said. Blogging is absolutely still relevant in 2022.
In fact, roughly 409 million internet users read about 20 billion blog pages monthly. This is why 53% of marketers prioritize blogging as their primary content marketing strategy.
I’ve been blogging for a long time. I had no idea that I could eventually make money with my blog. That it could be an actual job where I’m able to work at home.
The years blogging have been rocky. Losing it, starting all over again. But I do spend a lot of time working on this blog. Taking photos, editing photos for the correct sizing, writing and editing my work.
I don’t make a great deal of money and never expect to. But it sure is a nice income to add to social security. Otherwise finances would be tight. By blogging I’ve been able to save a bit of money so I feel more secure.
Many bloggers have stopped blogging and turned to Instagram and YouTube, etc. They’ve probably either grown tired of keeping up their blog or just wanted to head in another direction.
But I’ve noticed that some are starting to revamp their blogs and get back in the game. I hope more do this because I miss reading their blogs.
My Recommendation:
Here is my #1 recommendation for bloggers. Be consistent. Post as often as you can and build up a readership. If you don’t put in the time, your readers will grow tired of your inconsistency and stop reading altogether.
There is money to be made in various ways as a blogger. Also there is affiliate income with sites like Amazon. And with social media, of course, which is where I tend not to wander much.
And there are ad networks, which is how I make money.
Some bloggers have become quite wealthy. They’ve taken what can be considered a blank page and created something that has made them rich.
Below are two blogs that fit into this category.
Wealthy Bloggers:
A Beautiful Mess is listed and linked to under Lifestyle Blogs on my Lovely Reads page. If you’re not familiar with this page, it is located in the top navigation bar.
I provide this page so that you can check out other blogs to read. And I try to keep the list updated. For example, If a blogger stops updating, I take it off the list and add someone else.
I am mentioning the “Beautiful Mess” blog because it might be one you’ve either read or would be interested in. In other words, it is a blog about everything home.
The two bloggers who write this blog, Elisa Larson and Emma Chapman, are sisters. They make about $15 million a year writing about home decor projects, crafts, and easy to make recipes.
Now that’s a nice chunk of change!
The primary motto of their blog is to make something while staying home, along with the tutorials. Most of their income is generated through affiliated ads with digital or marketing products.
A recipe blog that I also have listed under “Lovely Reads” is called “Pinch Of Yum.”
The husband and wife team left their jobs and became full-time bloggers. They make $10.5 million per year. Lindsay and Bjork are the top-notch bloggers in the food world.
“Pinch Of Yum” makes money from advertisements, affiliate marketing, and sponsored content.
I seriously doubt that they’ll ever go back to their old jobs!
So yes, you can still make money as a blogger. But it takes time, quite a lot of time, to both keep things going and to generate income.
What I Watched On TV Yesterday:
Yesterday I watched a movie on Netflix called “Inheritance,” a 2020 film.
It was one of those movies that was way over the top, but kind of fun to watch anyway. It had a whiff of mystery that had me wondering how it would end.
I’m also still watching “Wentworth”, a series about a women’s prison in Australia. It has 9 seasons.
I didn’t think I’d really like this show, but it surprised me. It’s actually quite interesting.
What I’m Reading:
I’m still reading various Lisa Scottoline books. Now I’m reading her novel “Keep Quiet” which she published in 2015.
Scottoline is a lawyer who left her job when her daughter was born.
Her books are typically legal thrillers and have put her on the bestselling list for some time.
Book Summary:
Jake has just picked up his 16-year-old son, Ryan, from the movies. He doesn’t usually pick his son up from his various activities. But he knows they need bonding time before Ryan heads to college in a few years.
Jake drives a fancy car that Ryan helped him choose. And now Ryan is asking Jake to let him drive home. He doesn’t yet have his license, but he will have it soon.
Jake, wanting to please his son, pulls over on a road with virtually no traffic and lets him drive.
The two are talking when suddenly there is a thump. When Jake goes to see what Ryan hit, he is shocked to see that it’s a person. He’d thought it was probably a deer.
The jogger is dead.
Ryan’s mother and Jake’s wife is a judge, and she would say follow the law. But Jake knows what happens next will define his son’s future.
The jogger is already dead and they can’t bring her back no matter what they do. So Jake decides to to leave the scene and pretend it never happened.
But how do you live with that kind of secret? And will they be found out?
That’s as far as I’ve gotten reading this book.
Steps:
When you are teaching yourself to walk again, you think about how many steps you typically take in one day.
You begin to realize that someone else’s step is two of your steps.
I don’t think a person is aware of the steps they take until they can’t walk anymore. Then every step is precious. It is cause for celebration.
If you’re walking sideways, it is awkward and thus takes more time.
In the kitchen, I try to get more done within each side step. Because who really takes the time to think about stepping/walking on an everyday basis?
Instead of wandering all around, doing this and that, you quickly learn to make the most of those steps. And to be grateful for them.

I LOVE blogs and so many of my favorites have stopped posting and have moved on to other things. Blogs are more personal and I like that. I’m not big with IV (the reels drive me nuts) but I do like Pinterest. Brenda, your blog is the one blog I try to read everyday and I’m usually successful unless I’m traveling.
I had hip replacement surgery in September, 2020 and have reached the point where I can crouch down to pick up my little dog and feel the strength in my thighs and hips. Quite an accomplishment for me and I’m thrilled to have the movement be so much easier. It all takes time and it sounds as if you are progressing. Pace yourself. I really messed up when I took three pilates classes in three days. That took over six months to come back from. You will feel your control and strength come back.
I am always thinking about whether I should stop blogging. Something just won’t let me part with it yet, even though I post infrequently. I started out thinking I would make money, but I soon realized how much time and effort is needed to achieve that. So, I did it for my own enjoyment of creating. I do still enjoy it; it’s just finding the time lately to keep at it regularly. I’m glad to hear that many are getting back into it.
I honestly think I’ll blog for as long as I can. It has been the one thing I have enjoyed so much these past 15 years. I read a ton of blogs and although mine doesn’t make lots of money, at one time a few years ago it was a very nice little side gig. I do enjoy reading yours. Glad to see you are making progress with your walking. It just takes time, as I’m sure you know well. Hope you and Ivy had a nice weekend.
Brenda, I would like to recommend The Outfit…a mystery along the same lines as Hitchcock. The main actor is an Englishman named Mark Rylance…I like him very much. This movie is on Prime. Enjoy!
I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Wow, I had no idea there was that much money to be made in blogging. That’s quite impressive! That book sounds interesting. I don’t think I could live with myself, just walking away and pretending it didn’t happen. Now you have me wondering how it ends, lol. I’m still watching Heartland. I’m near the end of season 10. They just released season 16. It’s Canada’s longest running drama. I hope one day you’ll decide to watch it. I think you’d like it. Keep up the good work with your baby steps. It’s a slow process, but your getting a little bit better every day.
I’ve heard of that series. I like the ones with lots of seasons.
Brenda, After being away a year and a half from my blog, I finally posted 2 blog posts this past week, and a new one is going out tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was sick for the last 7 months and when I started back up, I discovered Amazon had changed, as well as my email provider. It was like starting over from scratch. I also turn the big 75 this week! My husband is almost 78. I won’t be doing much of any DIY now because of my balance issues. I’m definitely slowing down a lot, so I’m hoping to send out a blog post every week, and sometimes twice a week. I have to say that I’ve missed it, but just can’t do it like I used to anymore.
What is your blog so I can visit?
I believe her blog is red painted cottage. Have really missed Carol

Please give us the name of your blog.
Glad you are feeling better Carol.
How do you monetize Instagram content (if you know)? I see lots of moms posting content for income. I also would like to start a blog focusing on my main interest of being outdoors & studying/observing nature.
I should probably set up a consult with you on getting started. I want to do something that will supplement social security when I get there. So getting started now is important.
I am good at writing & editing but not at your expert level of story telling. Maybe I would get better with practice.
I am intimidated by learning the tech side but willing to do the work.
Thanks for the encouraging post!
I’m not quite sure how they monetize on Instagram. I’ve never had much of an interest in it. Or any of the others aside from Pinterest, which I like to check out occasionally. You do get better with practice. I had to learn the tech stuff too.
I’m considering in starting a blog also but I have to learn how to edit. I think being a you tuber would be fun, but that would be the only platform that I’m interested in. I watch alot of utubers every week and find new all the time.
Keep on taking those baby steps Brenda and before u know it you’ll be walking again like u was. It just takes time and determination and u got this!
Oftentimes, like today, I start out writing about one thing and end up with something else entirely. Strange how that happens. I’m not interested in YouTube, but I know there are lots of successful people on there.
Never realized how money was earned with any of these social platforms.
From time-to-time other bloggers will casually mention what’s involved in blogging.
There are also numerous ladies selling merchandise on their instagram and blog.
Often is confusing.
Gotta learn the ropes if you’d like to be a blogger!
I couldn’t do it.
Thank you for your blog. I have read it for many years and it adds joy to my days. Wishing you a great day and a pain free extra step or two.
It’s still one step at a time.
Love that picture of Ivy and the squirrel!
Still on the fence about having another cat. Simon and I absolutely love cats and would give any one of them a very good home. I think I should look at older cats so that we don’t have to worry that we will die and leave them to goodness knows who. I know my son would take him or her but I don’t like how his partner treats cats.
Thanks for the lists of other blogs, I have signed up for a few.
I haven’t got around to purchasing a Lisa Scottline book yet but I intend to.
I like to get free shipping from Amazon and that means buying something $35 or more, so when I do, I will add one of her books.
Glad to hear that you are progressing with your ankle, you are going in the right direction.
As you know, I tried having another cat, Gracie. But she died way too young and it broke my heart. If Ivy was amenable to another cat, I’d get one. But the mobile vet said it’s probably best that Ivy is the only pet.
Thank you so much for posting about blogging because I’ve been on the fence about blogging again. My blog is still out there but I haven’t posted in a very long time. I really enjoyed the interaction with others but then I started posting on Instagram. There is interaction but lately I haven’t been enjoying it as much as I used to. I’ve even considered leaving all the social media platforms. Time will tell.
Keep taking those “baby steps”, Brenda. All part of your healing process. You’ve definitely been watching and reading some interesting things.
What is the name of your blog? I’m considering leaving social media as well.
It’s Quilting Daze on blogspot. I used to really enjoy it and I did enjoy IG for a long time, but something doesn’t feel right to me.
