Book Summary:
Larkin Lanier left her hometown in South Carolina at age 18, humiliated over an event that happened in front of all her friends, wanting to start life anew.
But then nearly a decade later she learns that her mother has disappeared, and realizes that she has no choice but to return.
Her mother, Ivy, is finally discovered badly injured in the wreckage of her ancestral plantation home. No one knows why she was there, as the house had been uninhabitable since a fire many years ago that had killed her grandmother Margaret.
She is quickly taken to the hospital and remains in a coma.
Larkin is determined to find out what’s been going on in her mother’s life. Before her accident, her mother had let her know that something was amiss, but didn’t spell out what it was.
The story began nearly fifty years ago, bound by the promises of three young women who swore they would always be best friends, no matter what.
But life sometimes has a way of intervening no matter what the plan is.
My Review:
I was fully pulled into this story. The writing was exquisite, the plot complicated but fully explained at the end. This is a writer who pays very close attention to each and every detail.
I don’t think I’ve ever read this author’s books in the past. But I know I will in the future.

I have read Karen White before and enjoyed her books!
I thought it was an entertaining read. My daughter just took it home.
Beware that her stories follow the same format. Be sure to read synopsis of book before buying. I did enjoy “In the Shadow of the Moon”, which is a bit different.
I’m glad you told me.
I have that book on hold at our local library. Some of hers I have really enjoyed.
