There’s a decorating style for everyone. You just have to figure out which one fits you best. You want to feel relaxed and content in your home. You want it to reflect your personality, and you want people to feel comfortable there.
Let’s look at some spaces.
Living rooms
Do you like the colors in the room above? Or would you feel more relaxed in the living space below?
Kitchens
Does the kitchen above make you want to do a happy dance? Or does it make you want to turn around and leave?
Does the kitchen below feel just right somehow? There are plenty of neutral if that makes you feel more comfortable. Oftentimes neutrals make a space feel larger than it actually is.
There are no right or wrong answers. It’s all in the degree of comfort that you experience.
Once you figure that out, it will be much easier to decide on the color and style for your home.
Here are some questions to get you started…
1. What kind of spaces in magazines and/or on Pinterest or other people’s homes am I drawn to?
2. What colors am I automatically drawn to in stores?
3. What do I want the personality of my space to say about me?
4. What do I want to feel when I walk into my space/home?
5. What style do I find both comfortable and cozy?
6. Do I feel more comfortable with neutral colors?
7. Am I primarily interested in myself or do you love entertaining?
8. Do I want to stay in traditional territory or do I want something different?
9. Do I like white everywhere or wood tones?
10. Do I like the hardware and such or do I want to switch them out?
All of the kitchens featured here today are just so gorgeous. I'd love to cook in any of them!
I like the third living room – I'd change the rug to a seagrass rug, though. I love color, but a whole bunch can be too much. When I first work with my clients, I ask them to send me a bunch of photos from Houzz. Then we look at them and see what repeats – that is the easiest way to tell a person's style.
The first living room and the white kitchen would be my choice. Love them!!
Brenda, I love your blog. I read yours first in my email. I admire you and the Pupster's. Please keep up the good work and know that you are loved and appreciatted.
I love the last kitchen…the first kitchen is quirky and fun!
I would love the white kitchen! With color added with accessories. Yes, I could definitely see myself cooking there…
I like the first kitchen as it has a more cozy feel to it but I'd have to take out that rug. It would make me dizzy. 🙂 I am drawn toward the cozy, comfy look in homes.
The first living room..[but add more red things in there]
The last kitchen.. Again, need to add more reds.. But, I love the cabinets.
I love reds/yellows/ and white backgrounds. Love the country look.
Lots of inspiration Brenda!! Thanks for coming by today so nice of you to visit!!
I'll take the white kitchen please!! Of course, I would have to add just a little more red! 😉
That blue stove is so neat! I like the white kitchen! sheila
Ok, I want that second kitchen, althrough I really do love that retro stove in the first kitchen.
