Dreamy 1950s Southern California Cottage

This dreamy 1950s Southern California cottage is barely 1100 square feet in size.

It was Raili and Ryan’s first home, but then the family grew and they moved to a bigger property.

However, they kept the cottage to rent out. And later, when they downsized, they moved back into it.

“I have always loved this house,” says Raili. “Even when I was so removed from it, I still had a six-inch-thick file of ideas.”

Kitchen In The California Cottage:

The kitchen has lots of natural light and a table with mismatched green chairs

A couple of wood chairs left as trash in an alleyway put Raili on the hunt for more mismatched pairs.

This gave the room a uniform look with a very California-appropriate avocado-toned green hue.

The Son’s Small Bedroom:

In lieu of a traditional headboard in 18-year-old son Rees’s small room, Raili added warmth and texture with a plywood accent wall.

She lightly buffed it and then sealed it for a matte finish to give it durability.

The Whimsical Color Of The Clawfoot Tub:

A golden-yellow tub is a perfect touch in this small bathroom.

  1. I think my favorite part is the kitchen windows. I absolutely love how they open up and literally let the outside in! That’s wonderful!

  2. Great cottage. I can see why they wanted to move back to it. And she’s done a really cute decorating job.
