  1. I actually vacuum my enclosed patio. It gets so dusty and there’s no way to hose it off and have it drain. Call us crazy! LOL And you’re right. They do make crap now. I keep the old stuff and repaint or refinish. I actually rented a car once since mine was in the shop, and the trunk door was so flimsy it was shocking, held on my two 1-1/2 inch rods that were hollow!!! I think it was a Sebring. Boy oh boy, in a wind if I had to open it, it would as you say, blow it off across the state line.

  2. I don’t know about plants but I’ve had Walmart deliver me all sorts of things that aren’t food related. Basically, I think they’ll deliver anything they sell so I bet they would deliver flowers/plants. I did get a membership half price last year around Thanksgiving but I’ll be renewing every year. They’ve recently added a returns service and they will come to your door. The few times I’ve gotten unsatisfactory food (like broken eggs) they’ve credited my account within an hour of reporting it and I haven’t had to return the actual item. I used to have to return non food items in person but not any more and I LOVE it. Thank you for sharing your adapting methods. It helps me realize most anything can be solved with a bit of thought and ingenuity.

  3. I now completely understand your meal limitations. On Saturday, March 11, I slipped on a wet tile floor and snapped three bones in my ankle. I’m now wheeling around my small kitchen in a wheelchair. I can balance on one leg for a minute or two, but then have to settle back onto my wheelchair. I’m figuring I’ll be ordering delivery from pizzerias and Denny’s, in between making sandwiches and bowls of cereal. My surgeon said I won’t be 100% for about a year (I’m 72). Between now and then, I’m sure I’ll figure out something better.

  4. Ha Ha I use to vacuum my deck off when we had the house and I am sure my neighbors thought I was crazy too! Glad they are getting you a new microwave. Enjoy the week. Kris

  5. The difference between your new and old rolling garden seat reminded me that when I was a preschool director I went to the hardware store to buy some new children’s plastic snow shovels because the really old ones were looking worn. The new ones broke the first time they were used so I went back to the hardware store and asked why the new ones were so flimsy when the old ones were so sturdy and the owner said it was because the old ones had lead in them which is now illegal to use but it means the plastic isn’t as sturdy.

  6. Maybe you can get Walmart to deliver some annuals to you. Worth a try. I have bought some from them during covid. They were the only garden centers open at the time. The annuals did very well with miracle gro feedings.

  7. Glad you had no problem getting a new microwave. You made me chuckle about the patio furniture blowing across the state line and vacuuming the patio. You would fit right in my cul de sac. It is heavenly to have such laid back neighbors. It is just life that sometimes we have a tv dinner or stop at McDonald’s. I have never been excited to cook and now that I am older I am more than happy to buy cooked meat and add vegetables for a meal. With small veggie plants at almost $5.00, I was happy to pick up organic basil and rosemary plants at Kroger for $1.99 yesterday. I usually don’t have great luck with seeds but I have started some and will definitely sow some right into my large pots come warmer weather. Enjoy your day.

  8. Brenda, I think you are managing excellently well, considering all you are contending with these days!! Nothing is perfect, that is for sure…haha…loved the masking tape idea…I am prone to such kind of “fixes” myself!! Hope you can figure out what to do about the debris problem…the apts do make a person not care much about things. Our criminal neighbor upstairs dumps the body hair he cuts off himself, down as close to our patio as possible…go figure…the world is full of very weird people now. (yes, garbage is included in the rent and our can is a stone’s throw away…guess carrying the hair downstairs is simply just too heavy!!)

  9. You know at my age, I now say, you gotta do what you gotta do. So eat as healthy as you can which is your salad but heck, a few frozen dinners here and there are not going to kill you longterm. It would be different if you had a diabetes diagnosis and ate a whole Pepperidge Farm frozen lemon chiffon cake which I could easily!!! Why do their frostings taste so good in those frozen cakes. I use to eat a can of soup at lunch every couple of days for convenience till the sodium caught up with me and now it’s about every 2 weeks I open a can of tomato soup to devour with ritz crackers. So you fill that freezer with food as it’s more economical than ordering out.

  10. Yay for a new microwave! Glad your management was responsive to this. I do adore the look of flowering annuals; however could you also plant some perennials in your containers? Some may overwinter easily and then you don’t have to replace them each year! Out of curiosity I googled “flowering perennials that can grow in containers” and this example popped up for zone 4-8 (see link below) but I’m sure there many others out there. Lillies, hostas… might work in your gardening zone. A thought to ponder anyway.

I agree w others to contact management about dirt under door – a space means critters can get under it too LOL. I had root problems in my NJ home and the city had to replace my gas line buried 7′ down because of tree roots. Luckily it was right before winter or they would have had to wait until spring to reach it. Tree roots can cause beaucoup problems in yards!

    1. Steve’s already been down to the office to talk to them about the debris under the doors. He gets some debris, but nearly like I do because of my doors being so unlevel. The only time they will dig up the sidewalks to get to the tree roots here are when someone’s plumbing goes awry because of it. They have to listen to their corporate headquarters, and they don’t like to spend money.

  11. Can you put a rug inside and outside your door? That will keep the blowing dirt out. Talking to their supervisor and having him tell him where to stand when using the blowers is another option.

    1. I didn’t even think about a rug. But then I wouldn’t have due to fears of tripping. But I think I can lift my foot higher now.

  12. Brenda, I know fast foods might not be so good for you, but I did not know it included TV dinners. I have eaten the dinners, not recently, but want to say, I enjoyed them. I suppose it’s the salt content, I don’t know, but chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy, and corn, can’t be all bad (grin).
Sorry to hear about the microwave oven, hope it doesn’t take long for the new one to arrive. I’d be lost without one..
Going to the polls to vote, and after that, we’re going shopping for a new BBQ grill. Old one bit the dust last fall.
Have a nice day, 35 degrees in WI. today. Spring is on it’s way.

    1. Yes, it’s mainly the salt content I think. But a person has to eat. I eat a lot of PBJ sandwiches at lunchtime.

  13. The apartment complex should have a competent carpenter cut and level the opening on your front door, put on a new door, and add a good door sweep at the bottom of the door inside so that debris and water from the outside can’t get into your apartment. If they’re not going to replace to door, since debris is blowing into your apartment because your door is hanging crooked, the complex should – at a minimum – add a sweep on the outside and/or a flexible rubber insert on the bottom of the door for additional blockage of wind, water, debris and install a new sweep on the inside. They should also check and replace your weather stripping, which – because of the crooked door frame, will need to be thicker in some parts than other parts. Batten down the hatches, another storm front is blowing through and large hail, straight line winds and/or tornadoes are to be with us in three separate fronts as they pass through from west to east over the next two days. Much of the area that suffered severe weather damage on March 31-April 1 will be subject to more of the same.

    1. They’ve looked at the door and tried to adjust it. But then I can’t get it open enough to do things because it’s catching on the other end. It does have a door sweep, but since it’s unlevel it doesn’t help much. I bought a nice storm door at my other apartment before I even moved in. But I had Kendra look at this one, since she deals with carpentry all the time. And she said don’t bother getting a nice new door, Mom, because it won’t make any difference due to the sidewalk.

  14. Maybe you could try stick on weatherstripping on the bottom of your door to keep out the debris. You could probably adjust it to allow for the uneven surface and/or trim to fit with a scissors. Walmart probably sells it and you could have it delivered with your next grocery order.

    1. We’ve done all that. But with that gap it doesn’t do much good. It’s probably at least half an inch to maybe an inch gap at one end. I just keep the wood door closed all the time.

  15. I’m so glad the apartment complex is replacing your microwave! Such a change from the last place you lived. It’s too bad about the lawn debris blowing in under your doors though.

    1. Those guys are just being lazy. All they have to do is turn the blower away from the door and guide it in the other direction. But they are a whole separate company and corporate handles that. The manager said she would do something when Steve talked to her though.
