Home Of Apartment Therapy Founder Maxwell Ryan

Apartment Therapy founder Maxwell Ryan created a career out of teaching people to live smaller in beautifully organized homes.

Let’s have a look at his apartment, a 1000 square foot apartment where he and his child resides.

Maxwell loves to cook, so he remodeled his kitchen for maximum efficiency. He admits that he didn’t add anything that is merely decorative.

He replaced the old laminate counter tops with Carrara marble and used white subway tile left over from another project for the back splash.

Maxwell removed the upper cabinets. Then he painted the walls black and the lower cabinets white.

He added restaurant-style stainless steel shelves.

Maxwell obviously does not shy away from color, and uses it liberally throughout his apartment.

On his bedroom walls, he features his mother’s paintings, which are obviously dear to him.

I love his colorful, cheerful and eclectic style. Every room shows his love of home, which has made Apartment Therapy a successful go-to site for small space decorating.

  1. Maxwell's home is lovely and fun. It would be a bit over-stimulating for me to live with. But that's just my own psycho-emotional makeup, if you know what I mean. I would have to dial it down a bit to be comfortable. I do like his use of furnishings, though. My home is just over 1,000sq. ft., but it's not nearly as "put together" as his space!

A fun post, Brenda. And I really like your new photo. You look happy and relaxed.

  2. I love the photo of you on the blog. I don't recall seeing it before, is it new? You are so cute, and I love your short hair. Oh, I enjoyed this article too. Fun to see a pink rug in the living room.

  3. I love the pink/purple/yellow/orange color combo in my flower beds, but I've never used it inside. I think he pulls it off here because of all of the white on the walls, drapes, and upholstery. I think a child would really enjoy living here because the rooms encourage being carefree and creative. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Good Morning Brenda: I love his use of colors! Francetaste mentioned she liked his daughters bedroom. Where am I missing that? I'll bet it is darling too.. Have a great week!
