Ivy & A Movie I Watched Yesterday
It looks like it might have rained last night.
Since I have someone living above me, I can’t hear it, which I miss. Maybe we’ll get an absolute downpour soon and I can possibly l hear it rain then.
The patio is semi-dark this Monday morning. It seems to be getting darker as I write this.
I don’t know where Ivy is, but she likes the area in the bedroom where her three cat houses/towers are. She likes to sleep in one of them or stare out the window.
Steve from next door says his cat Skippy meows quite a lot.
Ivy does not. I might not hear her meow for a whole week.
Whereas Skippy loves to sleep on his lap every time he sits down, Ivy won’t do that.
You can try to get Ivy to get in your lap and she will bolt. She will stick her claws into whatever is there and you can’t budge her. Not that I’d want to lift her. She’s too heavy.
However, she’s started to purr more loudly. You may remember that once I mentioned I couldn’t hear her purr.
Well, one of you said it was probably a very quiet sound. That she was probably purring and I just couldn’t hear it.
Now that purr has become louder. Which makes me think she’s a happy cat.
Isn’t that what purring suggests?
Cats can sure find the softest place in the home to nap. Lay a quilt or blanket down and they pounce on it. I laid the one above on the couch just for her, and she seems to know it.
Movie I Watched Yesterday:
Yesterday I watched another movie on Netflix. It was called “In Darkness.”
It was about a blind musician in London who hears a murder committed in the apartment upstairs from hers. And it evolves from there.
While watching it, I thought about how much I would fear being blind. Going out among lots of people and traffic and having to find your way by using a cane in front of you.
I wonder how they move so fast when they can’t see. How they can know where they’re going by swinging the cane on the surface in front of them.
I looked it up, and those canes are called White Canes.
What I read is this: Think of the cane as an extension of your arm to reach out to things on the ground and in front of you. The white cane helps you find obstructions and get around them safely.
Imagine how scary it would be to be blind and hear a crime being committed.
Or to come home and think there might be someone in your apartment, but not be able to see them.
That’s the stuff of nightmares.
One of the cats we used to have, Rocky, was a lap cap. We’d always joke that he was a cat in a dog’s body. He purred loudly, and when my son was little, he couldn’t say “purring” so he’d saying “pugging.” So we all started to say pugging. Even now, 20 years later, “purring” sounds weird to me, haha!
My cat is like Steve’s, has to be in my lap as soon as I sit down. He also sleeps next to my shoulders at night for about an hour, then walks away and comes back later sometime during the night.
Did you end up watching Hillary Swank in her new show on ABC called Alaska Daily? My first thought at the beginning was how tough she was being an investigative reporter and by the end of the show I was impressed by the due diligence she put forth to get the facts to find how women died. And find the coverups. It made me think of all your articles written just as she wants to see facts in print so others know too.
I haven’t watched it yet because I’m still watching Wentworth, which has either 8-9 seasons. I like to watch one show at a time. I did look it up though and plan to watch it. Which channel are you watching it on? Isn’t it on ABC and maybe Hulu?
Yes it’s ABC and I believe Hulu too but I watch it on ABC Thursday nights. I am anxious for you to tell me how you can relate to the stories you wrote to what she is investigating.
All this talk of cats makes me want one so bad. I always had one up until our third son was four years old(41 yrs ago ), and we realized he was allergic to cats. And it is a terrible reaction, not just an annoyance. He lives with his family a mile away, so I can’t have one now either! We do have a wonderful westie now, and she is much loved!
As long as I have a pet, I am happy. Ivy is precious.
Have you seen the movie Wait Until Dark? It is frightening and clever.
I was going to suggest that. That is the movie I immediately thought of.
Yes.
Was gonna mention this film to you Brenda.
Having seen many times, truthfully, cannot watch the movie any more.
There are parts of the film that bother mea lot. So no more.
I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Yes I also thought of Wait Until Dark an Audrey Hepfurn film from the 1960’s. I also saw it on Broadway in the late 1990’s starring Marisa Tomei. A thrilling story but as Dianne says, it’s frightening but also clever. I love Ivy – she makes me smile and reminds me a lot of my siamese cat Nisa growing up. Nisa was not a lap sitter or much of a cuddler, but she liked to be “around” us and every night she slept at the foot of my bed:)
Cats! I think the word “quirky” was invented for them! A few of mine (six total at one time, gradually losing them to old age at 16-17-18) established what we call “the ten second rule.” Sure, you can pick them up for a snuggle, but once ten seconds elapses, they stiffen and need to go! Of course, when THEY are in the mood for extended cuddling, you darn well better accommodate them, no matter where you’re sitting or sleeping or where you have to go!
Yes, cats have unique personalities and quirks.
I’ve always associated cats purring with them being happy and content. Just like Ivy looks in that picture. I agree with you about the thought of being blind. Terrifying! I can’t even imagine. Just one more blessing to be thankful for, and one of the many things I take for granted. That being said, I think I’ll go count my blessings… have a great day everyone!
I’m thankful every day that I can see nature.
I still remember the movie “Wait Until Dark” with Audrey Hepburn. Watched in school as some kind of a reward for something our middle school class accomplished. Scary! Now I’m too much of a wimp for such things;)
I like scary movies.
Miss Bella,my tuxies, purrs loudly and ” speaks” she seems to have an opinion on everything that happens here.
Buddy,my house panther, squeaks, doesn’t meow much and purrs very quietly. He has recently started laying on my leg when I’m sitting in the recliner.
He’s a bit younger than Bella and cracks me up at least once a day,he’s got a zoomie routine down and if something displeases him,he’s up on top of the kitchen cabinets throwing the stink eye!!!
Absolutely adore these little furkids.
I don’t think Ivy has ever had the zoomies. Wonder why?
I am a dog person and never had a cat but my mom did and I think she once told me that purring means contentment and happy. Have a great new week ahead.
That’s what I think too. I did read up on it this morning.
I don’t watch scary or sad movies. I rented “Twister” last evening (for the umpteenth time), and enjoyed the special effects. I’m making up a list of videos I want to buy, “Twister” included, and will see if I can find some bargain prices at Abe’s Books, which has some of the best used book bargains around. I was curious about Ivy’s purring habits as I know zero about cats. I found this information very interesting: https://faqcats.com/why-is-my-cat-purring-so-loud/ I especially found the comments about cats using purring to “heal” others and themselves extremely interesting. Our animals are very attuned to us, whether we know it or not. Could be Ivy has been purring more loudly and more than usual to help you heal your ankle.
Could be. Ivy is smart and very observant. I read the article you suggested. I didn’t know that cats purr and that it releases endorphins.
Yes!
It’s so true!!
Our vet always told us (from years and years ago) the purring was about contentment ,,,,, all great things!!!
Looking back, all 3 of our catties purred.
I loved ❤️ to feel the purring ,,,,,, gently squeezing their tummies.
Was comforting to me also!!!
If you google cats purring…there is alot of info…very interesting..our new little kitty purred so soft when we got her..she is getting more vocal now…she has been so good for us..On another subject today is World Mental Health day so take Xtra care of your precious selves💕🍁🍂🌻
Thanks for telling me about World Mental Health Day. I wasn’t aware of that.
Not to alarm you, but I found out many years ago that the sign of heavy purring from a cat can mean it is in pain. That’s probably not the case, but just a point of information. My cat had a broken leg, due to a friend slamming the door on the cat’s leg. Horrible situation and the vet actually put a cast on its leg, despite the fact the cat was 18!!! years old. Of course, I had to put my sweetie to sleep because she didn’t have enough calcium to heal. Bad time. Let’s assume Ivy is just a happy cat in her new digs.
I wouldn’t say her purring is loud. But now I can hear it.
