It’s very important to keep your pet safe during the 4th of July fireworks.
When I think of fireworks, it is pets I feel the sorriest for. We can’t explain what the incredibly loud noises are. Therefore it’s hard to soothe them.
Let’s face it: July 4th celebrations and fur babies just don’t mix well.

Ways To Lessen Your Pet’s Anxiety:
So what can you do to lessen the anxiety for your pet during the fireworks season?
If possible, your dog should stay home with at least one human so it can be reassured if it gets anxious.
For indoor pets, designate a separate room to prevent them from getting overwhelmed. See that they have their favorite toys, food, and water.
Stay with your pet in a room that has minimal windows. Play soft music or TV to distract them from the sound of fireworks.
If your pets usually stay outdoors, bring them inside during the fireworks. This will help keep them calm and safe.
Safe Place For Dogs During Fireworks:
The safest place for your dogs should be a quiet area, so choose one of the quietest rooms in your home. It should be a place where they feel in control.
The noise of fireworks prompts fear in dogs the most.
If you can drown out those crashes and booms with a white noise machine or pleasing music, you can reduce their stress levels.
Negative Impact Of Fireworks On Wildlife:
The loud noises produced by fireworks can startle and stress wildlife.
Animals have sensitive hearing, and sudden loud explosions can cause panic, disorientation, and even physical injuries.
This disturbance can disrupt their natural behaviors, including feeding, breeding, and migration patterns.
Fireworks release toxic chemicals and heavy metals into the air and water. These pollutants can contaminate the surrounding environment, including soil, vegetation, and bodies of water.
Wildlife relying on these resources for survival can be negatively affected by the ingestion of pollutants or the contamination of their food sources.
Ivy:
Ivy hates fireworks as much as I do. When she hears the loud boom go off somewhere, she runs, trying to get away from the loud noise.

Here’s a photo of my sweet Ivy. You can almost tell how calm and laid back she normally is. But loud noises confound and upset her.
Ivy will be my companion on the 4th of July. I’ll try to drown out the loud noise as best I can for her.
I hate the dreadful loud popping sounds of fireworks. As a child I hated them too. I never wanted to hold sparklers or be anywhere near fireworks.
From USA Today July 2, 2024:
How many accidents have we heard of in our lifetime regarding fireworks?
โWhile it is a great American tradition to enjoy fireworks around the 4th of July, it is important to remember that all fireworks, even sparklers, pose dangers to consumers,” Alex Hoehn-Saric, chairman of the CPSC, said in the agency’s annual statement on fireworks safety. “
“The safest way to view fireworks is to watch professional displays.โ

Injuries From Fireworks In 2023:
“Fireworks present dangers of physical injury, particularly to the hands and face, as well as environmental concerns in drier areas of the country.
“Last year, fireworks accounted for an estimated 9,700 injuries resulting in hospital emergency room visits.
“Roughly 9,700 people were injured by fireworks in the United States in 2023, according to the report.
“Of the eight deaths that occurred in 2023 โ all male victims ranging in ages 15 to 51 โ five deaths were determined to have resulted from misuse of fireworks.”
4th Of July Decorating:

I only have a few decorations for July 4th. Due to lack of storage, I’ve had to forego buying seasonal decor.
Buying seasonal and holiday decor is fun, but then afterwards you have to figure out a way to store it.
I just don’t have the storage space for additional seasonal and holiday decor.

My 4th Of July Mantel For 2024:

This is my mantel decorated for the 4th of July 2024.
I don’t keep many decorations for this holiday. But it’s fun to display a few items to celebrate July 4th.
July 4, 2023 Mantel:

Here was my 4th of July mantel last year, 2023. It isn’t very different from this year’s mantel.
Anymore, I just like simple!
What Exactly Is July 4th Celebrating?
Independence Day, known colloquially as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States.
It commemorates the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

The Holiday For Employees:
If July 4 falls on a weekend, employees get the following Monday off. If July 4 falls on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, employees just get July 4 off.
If July 4 falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, employees get July 4 off, as well as the corresponding Monday or Friday, respectively.

July 4th Decorating:

The older I become, the simpler I seem to want things to be. And that goes for my surroundings.
Gone are the days when I clutter surfaces just for the sake of doing so!

If you don’t have red, white, and blue decor to decorate for July 4th, just use one or two of the colors and call it good.
Red is always a good choice!

Well, here’s my take on Fourth of July celebrations. What is it we’re “celebrating” again with all the noise of the fireworks not to mention the extreme expense of purchasing and setting them off? Oh, yes, the signing of the Declaration of Independence from England. We fought for it and we won and we’re celebrating. Okay, if the story were only that simple. But in the ensuing process of living out that independence we have displaced and murdered a whole continent of indigenous peoples. And our government continues to do so to a more or lesser degree. Those are the facts. So, for me, despite all the ways I benefit from living in the United States I am very aware of the misery and degradation our independence has cost those that were here before us. It’s hard for me to celebrate it. I accept that this is not a popular viewpoint but that’s the way I see it.
Happy 4th everyone!
Do those white cottage company candles smell as good as Mary says? ๐
You & Ivy enjoy yourselves! Hopefully the noise won’t be overwhelming. I used to live within view of two fireworks displays, which was fun. This year it’s BBQ sandwiches, potato salad & Blue Bell ice cream. I’m living far away from any noises right now. Just gonna take it easy!
Your simple decorations are so cute! I love the stuffed flags in the bowl. And I wish I had the two red vases in the last pic. Happy Fourth!
My cat isn’t phased by them for some reason, she sits on top of her cat tree and admires the pretty lights. I had a dog years ago that I had to tranquilize because she was so scared of fireworks. I guess it depends on the animal?
I used to live in a subdivision where neighbors on both sides would set them off. I would spend the next day picking up bottle rockets out of my yard, it used to annoy me so badly, not to mention if we were having a dry spell the risk of fire……
Wishing everyone a safe, happy Fourth!
I don’t decorate any room inside for 4th of July. For outside, I put two small flags in the planters on the front porch and hang a large decorative bow that has the red/white/blue American flag theme. Fast and easy to put up and take down. They’re going up today and will come down on Friday. I’ve never been a fan of the loud booms of fireworks but I do like to see them in the sky. I don’t have domesticated pets these days, my pets are all wild life, and yes, I worry about them as there is no way to shield them from the loud booming noises from local parks in the area setting off their fireworks displays or the idiots who decide to explode a firework or two in their backyard at 2 or 3 in the morning when sane people are asleep in their beds. There are always at least 1 or 2 of them in this subdivision and you’d think people would know better. If I knew who they were, I’d call them out “politely,” of course. Happy Independence Day to everyone. I like to watch the movie by that name, I grew up reading science fiction books from the local library.
I have my own thoughts about fireworks and where they should be allowed. My sweet Cooper shook like a leaf and couldn’t get close enough to me. I’d do everything I could to provide comfort for him.
Thank you for providing so many terrific ideas.
Your red, white and blue decor looks very lovely. A wonderful statement here and there!
Have a wonderful day.
Every year there is discussion on my community Facebook page about fireworks. Those of us who make pleas against home displays on behalf of animals get made fun of by some of the fools who are ok with โblowing upโ the family budget for an hour of macho man โfun.โ I tried once to post โnice way to say โthank you for your serviceโ to veterans who are triggered to relive the worse days of their lives,โ and was also mocked for that. (I close my eyes and see those MAGA flags a-flyinโ). And when I hear of a serious burn injury inflicted on one of them, I secretly chuckle in delight.
Not apologizing for anyone here who โmay have been offendedโ by my post. Opinions are mine alone. Donโt come after Brenda!
The flying flags are to celebrate Americaโs freedom from
England. MAGA is not about flags.
You are happy when people are burned? I feel sorry for you. You need help.
Oof. Such an angry bitter person.
I canโt imagine thinking itโs great someone got hurt.
