Lighting Ceremony To Honor COVID-19 Victims
The sun is shining and the wind must be blowing a bit, because I hear the three wind chimes just outside the French doors rustling.
Yesterday Ivy jumped over from the desk toward the living room floor and knocked off one of my three blue bottles that were on the cupboard.
When she jumps she usually is able to clear objects underneath her.
Losing It:
I watched as it splintered into pieces all over the floor.
I’ve only had three blue bottles and two of them I had to buy on Etsy. I cherished those blue bottles and always had them on display. Now I’m down to two.
Ivy got yelled at, really yelled at, and I wish I hadn’t done that. She went running somewhere in the apartment.
Calming Down & Being Sorry:
After I got it all cleaned up I sat down with Charlie.
I called for Ivy, over and over again. But she wouldn’t come to me.
I realized I’d frightened her and felt terrible. So I got up to find her to try and comfort her.
I petted her and told her it was okay and I was very sorry for yelling at her.
Forgiven, I Hope:
After a time she must have forgiven me, because she came out from her hidey hole and laid down on the couch.
Things, material things, are often important to us and we are stricken when they’re destroyed. But nothing is worth more than my babies.
We can replace material things, but not our precious babies.
Lighting Ceremony:
This evening is the lighting of the memorial for all the COVID-19 victims who’ve died. I’m so glad to see them acknowledged and honored. I’ll probably try to watch it online.
COVID-19 has killed nearly 400,000 Americans in less than a year and infections have continued to mount.
Though Washington, D.C. is at a heightened level of security after the January 6 riots, the memorial will feature a lighting around the the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Remembering Them:
Attending the event will be president-elect Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, along with Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris and husband Douglas Emhoff.
They will all participate to light the reflecting pool of 400 lights to honor lives lost to COVID-19.
This is the first-ever lighting around the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial.
Lights Across The Country:
The Empire State Building in New York to the Space Needle in Seattle are also scheduled to be illuminated.
In addition, hundreds of towns, cities, tribes, landmarks and communities all across the country have also committed to joining the tribute in a national moment of unity.
I will light candles around my apartment in support.
Flip House News:
Oh, I almost forgot. Kendra sold her flip house and is now working on the next one.
I almost missed the part about Kendra selling her flip house… I’m not surprised it sold so fast because she did a beautiful job. One thing I know about pets is that they are quick to forgive and forget. The broken glass probably startled you and you reacted as any one of us would. I am holding hope in my heart for our country and prayers in my heart for those families affected by covid.
We are lighting a candle for those who have passed and their families. So so sad for all of them, for the healthcare workers and our front line heroes. Saying our prayers for all.
Congratulations to Kendra on so quick a sale. That’s fantastic but then so was her renovation of that house. Your daughter certainly has a gift at this. Now she’ll be on to her next property I’m sure. I know you’re proud of her as well you should be. She’s talented and hard working too.
The lighting ceremony will be heartbreaking…
And it was. I cried the whole time.
I’m not sure whose idea it was to sponsor the beautiful memorial lighting ceremony, but I’ll boldly say here that I’m glad we’re less than 24 hours away from having someone with a soul back in the While House.
I’m with you one hundred percent. I’m hoping America gets back to work caring for people over money, greed and power.
Your houseplants are lovely. I enjoy raising plants, however, they quickly outgrow my space. How do you solve this problem? Do you discard them when they become too large for your space?
Well, some bite the dust, unfortunately. I haven’t had any that became too large for my apartment. But I tend to buy plants that aren’t supposed to be that big.
I love animals as much as anyone. But like children they need to be taught. I taught my cats from early age certain places were not their resting places. I am not a fan of cats being on eating tables or counters. Your pets are lucky to have you and very comfy places to rest. I don’t this will be posted. Never is any I have written.

Oh my goodness I missed the tidbit about Kendra selling the flip house – wonderful news!
I bet the noise of the bottle shattering into pieces also scared Ivy. You’ve made peace with each other and the remaining bottles have been moved; everything is back to normal.
Thank you for sharing the information about the lighting ceremony.
Enjoy your day!
Good to hear Kendra sold the flip house! I’m not surprised she sold it so fast, it is beautiful! Our first reaction when something we cherish gets broken is to be visibly upset and to raise our voice, so don’t feel too bad for scolding Ivy!
Not only that. I was scared the babies were going to walk on the shattered pieces before I could get it all cleaned up.
What good news that your daughter sold the flip house so quickly. But then, she does such an incredible job. She’s as good if not better than a lot of the shows I watch on HGTV, I swear!
I found this information online about the candle lighting ceremony in Washington D.C. later today to honor and remember the more than 400,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19. It was suggested that if individuals wish to join the memorial, they can put a lit candle in their window (I use battery-operated for safety). And nationwide, churches and temples will ring bells simultaneously at 5:30 ET/ 2:30 PT.
Don’t feel too guilty about yelling at Ivy. She did something wrong and she had to be told that she did. I don’t think trying to give her a time out and sitting her down calmly and explaining things to her would work. She recognized that you had quickly forgiven her and all is well. But perhaps she will think twice before she jumps the next time because she wouldn’t want to be scolded again.
Well I moved the remaining two blue bottles. And thank you for the information about the candles.
