Michelle Edwards, the blogger at Sweet Something Designs, lost her battle with cancer yesterday.

Michelle Edward loses her battle with cancer. Here is a photo of she and her husband driving somewhere.

Michelle started her blog in 2009, the same year I started this blog. I was one of her readers.

She decorated her home, took care of her husband, Justin, and two sons, Keegan and Logan.

Michelle made gorgeous wreaths. She had an Etsy shop as well as a space in a local antique mall where she lived in Joplin, Missouri.

Michelle With Short Hair:

She wrote: Justin asked me: “Are you ever going to let your hair grow long again?”

I’m getting back to him on that.

Michelle did everything she could possibly do to beat cancer. She kept a positive attitude and stayed strong for her family. And she was silly and playful with her children.

A Trial Drug Did Not Work:

Michelle had hoped that a trial drug would work so she would be free of cancer. She wanted to see her sons grow up to be men.

I read this in her final blog post on October 18th…

From Her Final Blog Post:

The news is not good. CT scans revealed the tumors are larger…which means the trial drug isn’t working. So it’s over. Just like that. I’m upset. I’m very disappointed and quite devastated. I thought this was going to be IT!! I realize there is no cure for my cancer, but the drug promised to stop the growth so I can live with the cancer and it didn’t.

We will miss you, Michelle. Your blog, your creations, your gorgeous smile.

Comment On Her Facebook Page:

Another comment on her Facebook page: Michelle I am pretty sure you insisted on crafting your own Angel wings in Heaven and I know they will be the most amazing ones there.

Michelle, you were a lovely and talented woman, and you will be missed by your blog family. You were taken from this world far, far too soon.

Rest in peace.

  1. How awful for her family, what will her young sons do without their Mother and her husband without his life partner? I am so sad for them but hope they will have courage to get thru it with help from God, family and friends. It's truly sad for young women to be taken by that horrid disease. My niece died before she was fifty with 2 boys and her husband. She fought cancer for 2 1/2 yrs before she died. It makes me wonder how/why these things happen but have to have faith there's a good reason. With prayers to her family and that's she's in peace with no pain now.

  2. I have been watching her blog every few days since her last post in October wondering. I knew since she had not blogged it probably wasn't good. I feel sad, she was such a talented woman with a sweet family. I feel so bad for them all.

  4. I saw the post on her blog this morning about her death and I was so saddened. I pray that she is at peace in heaven now with a healthy body, no more pain, no more sadness! I also pray that her family will feel comfort and peace at this time. I can't imagine losing my Mom at such a young age. Just heartbreaking. What a creative and lovely woman she was!! ~ Jamie

  8. Thank you Brenda for posting this tribute to Michelle….I have been so wondering how she was doing and have followed her blog for the last couple of years. She was an amazing young woman and so very courageous. We in the blogworld will miss her creativity and decorating abilities, but I know her family had experienced a tremendous loss in their lives. I pray they will be comforted and have strength to go on without this wonderful lady in their lives. Thanks again for posting about this…blessings to you, Linda

  9. This is the second blogger I came across this week who lost her battle with cancer. Unfortunately, I didn't know either one before their passing, it just happened that I found them through a tribute by another blogger, and you. The first woman was Ruthie of Ruthie's Gift – http://www.ruthiesgift.blogspot.com/
Like Michelle, she was a young wife and mother. But what a testimony to the Lord she was, and I have a feeling having looked briefly at Michelle's blog that she has a similar story. Ruthie's words of her journey through cancer touched me deeply, and I wrote about that on my blog this week. I only tell you this for one reason: we have the opportunity to carry on the legacy of these brave, beautiful women by making others aware of them and their lives. We honor them and their families in the sharing. I'm so glad, Brenda, that you are a woman who obviously understands this. Michelle's family will be in my prayers, just as Ruthie's family will be. Thanks, Brenda. HUgs ~ Nancy

  11. Michelle's blog was one of my favorites for the three years I followed her. She was so talented. Even though I have never met Michelle, I feel heart broken and will miss seeing her photos of her beautiful decorating. I am grateful I followed her for so long and that she can rest now and have no more pain.

  12. I saw that yesterday and it is just heartbreaking and gut wrenching. She went through so much and lost to the Cancer Devil in the end. My heart aches for the sweet family she left behind. Her pain and suffering are over-but her family's has just begun. God bless them. xo Diana

  13. Such a tragic and devastating loss for her family. We just never know how many days are planned for us and how important it is to live life fully and to treasure those moments with our loved ones and friends. It sounds as though Michelle did just that. Prayers for her husband and sons.

  15. What a "crying" shame that this beautiful, talented young woman has lost her life to that dreaded cancer.
My heart goes out to her family and it is so thoughtful of you to remember her in your blog, Brenda.

  16. I have been slow coming back to blogging after the holidays because I just wanted to spend as much time as I could with my girls after the holidays and before they returned to school. I woke up this morning and wanted to check up on Michelle and looked down to the bottom of the blogs I followed and saw there was no update on her. I came upon her obituary and was heartbroken. I'm so glad you made this post, Brenda, to honor her. When I did a post about A Prayer for your Health…it was because I had stumbled upon her blog and her last post. Heartbroken for her husband and boys. I hate cancer!

  17. I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Michelle. My heart breaks for her family and blogger friends. Brenda, thanks so much for sharing this heartrending story with us. Rest in peace, dear lady…

  18. Sadly a beautiful young wife and mother taken from her family and this world all too soon. I thank her for participating in the trials to cure this awful disease.

  19. I didn't know Michelle but I went and read her last post. She was a strong woman I could tell, the world has lost a beautiful person and heaven has gained. It seems so many people are getting cancer, it's all around us, my first husband died from it, my father in law just died from it, my daughter mother in law just had a double mastectomy, and my husband has skin caner. I hate cancer, it has robbed me of the people I love the most. With all the money and research going into it why can't they find a cure? It is so heartbreaking.

  20. Brenda,

I had never come across this sweet lady or her blog, but I can see from Michelle's kind eyes and sweet smile, that she must have been a wonderful soul. Just reading about yet another loss to this deadly disease is so very upsetting. My heart goes out to her family. May she rest in peace.

Thank you for this little tribute.

    Poppy
