Rain + Movies + Music
It has been a rainy couple of days, and it’s once again dark out on the patio. I like days like this. Give me thunder along with the rain and I’m happy.
Is it weird to like thunder?
Yesterday I watched a movie from the nineties on Prime.
It had quite a few recognizable actors in it. We don’t tend to see some of them anymore.
I wonder what actors do when there is no TV or movie work? How do they make a living if they don’t have enough movie/TV royalties to live off of?
Sometimes they just seem to fade into obscurity.
So many actors saw hard times, I imagine, during COVID when things were shut down.
Night Falls On Manhatten:
“Night Falls on Manhattan” is a 1996 American crime drama film written and directed by Sidney Lumet based on the novel “Tainted Evidence” by Robert Daley.
The film is about a newly elected district attorney played by Andy García. He vows to stamp out corruption within the New York City police department.
But then he finds out that his father and his partner may be involved in that corruption.
Wasn’t Andy Garcia a handsome devil? He’s a year older than me, I learned via the internet. So he’s 66.
Jim Brickman:
I am listening to pianist Jim Brickman play music from The Carpenters. He makes such beautiful music and their songs were so melodic.
The Carpenters take me way back to when I was a teen.
All the old music seems so much better than the stuff of today. But then I suppose all seniors think that, huh? I suppose it’s generational.
What Is Happening Today:
I’m getting a Whole Foods order this afternoon. I am hungry for baked potatoes. Maybe I’ll make a tuna casserole. Tuna is the only meat I’m currently eating.
My cholesterol was a little on the high side according to my last lab work, so I’m trying to bring it down a bit. I sure don’t want to take more medication than I have to.
Right now I’m not drinking caffeine either. It tends to irritate my bladder.
I’m thinking forward to cold days with my little electric stove warming the room. I enjoyed seeing it snow last year. Snow coming down and the warmth from my little stove would be nice.
Don’t you feel nice and cozy in colder weather when you don’t need to go out? When you’re warm inside and making soup or stew?
Are you looking forward to days like that? Or are you a hot weather and sunny days person?
I too love the sound of thunder. I have the “Calm” app on my phone and at night when I can’t sleep, I use the sleep sounds portion and turn on “thunderstorm.” Years ago I had a cat who was scared of thunder, at that time I had a CD that played storm sounds, but I couldn’t play it if he was sleeping with my. My current cats don’t seem bothered by it.
If you like Jim Brickman you may like Alberto Rivera. My boss at work told me about him. I will often put on his music from YouTube in the background on my computer at work.
I agree that the music of our generation was so much better than today’s! I’m with you Brenda – give me a good thunderstorm, and I’m very happy! As much as I love summer, I do enjoy a cold, snowy day where I don’t have to go anywhere, and a big pot of soup on the stove.
It’s been a dry fall here so far, with lots of sunshine. It just now started raining here this afternoon and will go through tomorrow. Even though I don’t like rainy days (they’re depressing to me), I know we need the rain right now. I just made a big pot of veggie beef soup. The house smells so good. As you probably know by now though, I’m a warm weather and sunshine gal. I don’t like the cold or snow. Winter is my dreaded season. I also have Seasonal Affective Disorder.
Don’t worry too much about your cholesterol unless it’s your LDL and/or triglycerides that are high. There’s much more to cholesterol that just your overall number. You don’t want to be taking a statin unless it’s absolutely necessary – they are dangerous. You can Google about it. You might consider taking a supplement called beta-sitosterols. They’re for cholesterol. Of course, talk to your dr first to make sure they’re safe for you and won’t interact with any of your other meds.
I that we would get some rain! Our part of Wi is very dry. Hopefully we won’t go into the winter dry! We have some trees turning colors, but others are just dropping their leaves.
I am about your age (I’ll be 67 in Nov.). I was in my teens listening to the Carpenters also. I also loved Bobby Goldsboro. I’m not sure if I spelled his name right.
It seems so long ago at times and other times it didn’t seem that long ago.
My Mother, like me, dearly loved rain and thunder. She’d always say that rainy weather was good for sleeping. I’d always reply that if she was asleep, she’d miss the sounds of rain and thunder.
My dear, sweet mother died this morning. California is only a month or two away from our rainy season, and she will miss it for the first time in her 88 years. I love you, Mom.
Condolences on the loss of your dear Mom. Keep those wonderful memories close. Especially on rainy days.
I am so sorry for your loss, Debra. Sending a prayer for you and your family.
So sorry for the loss of your Mother.
I am sorry for your loss. You now have a very special angel looking out for you:) I lost my mom in 2016 and I still talk to her every day:) She will always be with you.
My heart goes out to u, I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your Mom Debra! I’m sending hugs and prayers to u and your family!
I am a cooler weather person too! I love the lazy and cozy days of fall and winter. Fall is my favorite time of the year. It is raining here in North Alabama for the first time in about 3 weeks. I love when we have no plans, don’t have to get out and can stay indoors where it’s cozy. I’ve been retired 2 years and you won’t hear me complain lol
Rain, without thunderstorms is ok…but then I live where it can literally tear your house down too…but yea, good music, some warmth on cold days…good reading weather huh? Have always loved the Carpenters music…they were unusually good…and her voice was so lovely. So sad when she died. Probably never really knew how much so many of us loved her music. If you like melodic, harmony type music, then yes, we did live in a special time when we were young…and I hear very little today that even begins to approach that level of genius that some like the Carpenter’s music was…Hubby and I enjoyed most all of their music…and some of the other stuff kind of like it, from our time…
We are about eight years older than you, and we have trouble eating up all our leftovers. It seems like the appetite wanes the older we are!
I love cooler, darker, and shorter days. I also like the thunder! In Alabama it is still sunny and warm, hopefully it will cool off next week. I love the Carpenters and I’m going to look for that movie! Thanks for the tip.
If there’s room in the freezer, I like to freeze what leftovers I don’t eat.
I think Andy Garcia played a lawyer in the tv show Rebel??? It wasn’t on long but I really liked it. I don’t like thunder or lightening due to the noise for my pets who shake but also for losing a tree limb around here with lightening. But I love the changes of seasons here and it was an Indian summer day here of 70 and blue skies. By Friday 50’s so casserole time. I remember you use to eat a lot of baked potatoes and so good you are going back to it. I need to add sweet potatoes to my grocery list as I like them baked too. I hope you find a caffeine free coffee keurig cup you like. I found I like the McD brand caffeine free the best right now till I try some others.
I’m now baking that potato and then I’ll put in the tuna casserole. I don’t recall that show. Will have to Google it.
I love all the seasons, especially warm winters and cooler summers. But that really doesn’t happen does it? Jim Brickman is very handsome and his eyes remind me of Paul Neuman. Everything was better back in the day. I just saw a picture of my hometown with a group of kids from the 60s on bikes and scooters. They commented on how good we had it and unfortunately we were probably the last generation to experience such joy. Love your dough bowl. I just cleaned the house so now I get to finish decorating for fall! It is a warm sunny day, windows open, clothes on the line kinda day! I have my music playing. I have found I really like country music. It is not the twangy wife left me, took my pick up stuff. Their are many that are really nice love songs. I am amazed with songwriting from any genre of music. Remember to fill your home with what you love. Enjoy everyone!
Now that you mention it, I see that he does have Paul Newman eyes.
I crave dark, cloudy, rainy, chilly days. I’m quite content if some thunder is thrown in. LOL We’re starting to experience cooler mornings and late evenings but still a bit too warm during the day.
Oh, Andy Garcia is definitely a handsome devil. I enjoy when I can catch a movie with him in it.
I can’t remember the last time I had a tuna casserole. Sounds so yummy; I need to find a recipe and refresh my memory.
Have a great day, Brenda!
It’s been downright cool here for a few days. Today it got warmer.
Andy Garcia fan here too:) I will check out the film – thank you! Big fan of casseroles too! Love both cold weather and rain, but thunder/lightening not so much. When I lived in NYC/NJ for eight years, winter was always my favorite (aka cozy) season:) Now I live in South GA and we get a lot of electrical storms – lightening strikes are not so uncommon around here!
Casseroles are my favorite thing to cook because there are always leftovers.
I was raised in Michigan and i used to love a good
thunder storm! And the smell of the earth afterwards—divine!! It was actually foggy this morning and nice and cool when i went out to feed horse and chickens. I love it when the fog moves in with cooler weather! Goodbye hot summer!
I will have to ck Andy’s movie out. And yes he is a very handsome
man!
Yes, goodbye hot summer!
Today is lovely here in Canada, the sun is shining with a warm wind blowing.
I think I hate rainy dark days because I just couldn’t wait to get away from it in England, although I was born there, the weather in the winter was so depressing. It is warm enough for me to sit in the garden reading my book.
I do love to hear the rain when I am in bed and when we had a cottage with a steel roof, I just loved the loud noise of the rain on it. Yes, I do tend to do more cooking and baking in the winter. It was our thanksgiving yesterday and I made a nut roast etc with an English trifle for dessert. I love the challenge of taking a regular recipe and making it vegan. I have done that for years and usually everything turns out alright.
I’m looking forward to attempting to cook the way you mention too. I’m not terribly creative with food.
I love listening to rain at night, when I’m going to bed. I find it calming. As for thunder, I like hearing the low, long, rumbly sound waaay of in the distance. I don’t particularly like the super loud bang of thunder when it’s really close by. I enjoy the cooler temperatures of Fall, but I am absolutely not a fan of Winter. I don’t like cold weather. I hate putting on layers of clothes, and the worst thing ever is all the static cling. Everything I touch shocks me! I’d much rather lounge around in shorts, a t-shirt and go barefoot, lol. So if I had to choose, I’d have to go with Summer. Don’t get me wrong, I hate to sweat, but that’s what AC and pools are for, lol! I never saw that movie you mentioned. It sounds really good though. I have always loved the Carpenters! In fact, their two Christmas CDs are my favorite music to listen to, during the holidays. Looking at that picture of Jim Brickman, I think he’s rather handsome. Your tuna casserole sounds good. I haven’t made that in a while. I might have to make some soon. I love roasting vegetables! In addition to just eating them roasted by themselves, I like to put them in a blender with spaghetti sauce. It’s a good way to diguise them and get people to eat more veggies! Plus it really enhances the taste of plain sauce.
I’m not a big fan of winter. But when it snows, it just seems so cozy indoors.
I made a tuna casserole yesterday and it will feed us for a few days. It was a Martha Stewart recipe – surprisingly easy to make and delicious. I love rainy days, snowy days and any reason to be cozy with my electric stove and throws.
The tuna casserole recipe I make has less than 10 ingredients and is really easy. I use avocado mayonnaise in it.
I made tuna casserole last week…it was so good …this last weekend we made beef veggie soup…it gets better everyday…fall definitely gets me cooking more…like to made things that last a few days…have the stuff to make apple pie…cannot wait…supposed to be 70 here in Wi. today…all my flowers froze so have been busy emptying pots. Have a wonderful day🍂🍁🌻💕
I like to make casseroles because I can eat leftovers for several days.
We had 3 dogs that freaked out during thunderstorms so not fond of it as it was usually chaotic( large dogs).
That movie is 1 of my all time favorites! Big Andy Garcia fan here.
I too, have a little electric fireplace that makes it nice & cozy in here,NY is transitioning to fall weather, not being a fan of the hazy, hot & humid days of summer,I love fall.
Listened to both the Lisa Scottoline books you mentioned (discovered audio books a few years back) liked them both!
Checkout After Anna, same author,it’s a good story with quite a twist.
Have a great day:)
I think I’ve read After Anna, but I’ve forgotten it, so I may order it again. I’m an Andy Garcia fan too. Not long ago I watched him and Richard Gere in a movie and it was really good. The movie was Internal Affairs.
Just added that movie to our watchlist on Prime! And yes, Andy Garcia is a handsome devil! I’m going to have to look for that Jim Brickman music. I love the Carpenters music, too. It makes me smile! lol
You can probably find his music on YouTube.
If you are weird for liking thunder, then I am too!! 😉
Well, at least I’m not alone!
