Seeing Signs Of Spring

Lately, I’ve been seeing signs of spring in the pots on my patio. Right now it’s cold, so I’m inside. But I keep my eye on my garden just in case something new is coming up.

Lovely clump of lamb’s ear

Jim Brickman is playing Moon River on his piano. I can’t imagine being able to sit and coax those piano keys into something so beautiful.

I just got off the phone with Kendra.

We were discussing other avenues for her to earn money. This is a recurring theme when she’s exhausted from her last flip house. And then didn’t profit much from all that work.

DIY YouTube Videos:

She learned how to fix up and flip houses from watching YouTube videos. So I told her that now that she has that knowledge, she could teach others and make her own videos.

With my ad network, I have the option to create videos for additional revenue if I choose to. I’m sure if you read many blogs, you’ve seen videos within their content.

It’s just something I don’t know anything about, and I’m really not interested in doing.

Her 17-year-old son watches YouTube videos all the time, and he’s trying to get her interested in doing her own. He’d know how to help her. Kids his age have grown up around all this technology.

Spring Bulbs A Bit Early:

When I went outside with Charlie, I noticed that a squirrel (or some animal) had been digging in the corner of my raised bed.

I also saw the first sign of spring, as a small clump of green plants is now about 6 inches high.

I’ve read that if the plants emerge too early, the cold may cause them to die back. However, the bulb will send up new growth once the temperature rises again.

I don’t recall planting any spring bulbs there, because it’s where my biggest hosta plant is located. Typically, I plant spring bulbs at the other end of the blue raised garden.

Birds Appearing On The Patio:

The birds are now arriving. I used to see more birds on my patio during the wintertime. But I haven’t seen the cardinal couple this winter. Nor have I seen a robin in a good while.

I did see the chickadees last week.

Ivy, Shadows, & The Lamp Shade:

So I have to tell you about Ivy this morning. She’s sure full of energy right now. Maybe it’s the cold weather that’s getting her so excited.

Ivy saw a shadow on the wall behind a lamp and went for it. She got so excited that she started biting the lampshade.

And then I look up and she’s got her whole head up inside the lampshade.

That silly cat. I took a quick photo so you could see it too. She looks like the base of a lamp.

I never know what she’s going to do next.

  1. Cats do such curious things. I’d love to know what they’re thinking when they do silly things.

Brenda I know I sent you an email in the past but I canโ€™t find your email address. Iโ€™d like to send you an email. Are you able to contact me through this reply with my email attached?

  3. Everyone seems to want to be a decorator, stager or flipper these days. You tube is inundated with people who think they know how to do it well. Kendra has so much experience. She needs to go into a field that not many people seem to be concerned with in this volatile real estate market. She should think about becoming an appraiser or an inspector. She has the knowledge. She could make her own hours and make lots of money. In our area, it is so difficult to schedule an inspector or an appraiser. They are booked solid. She wouldnโ€™t be so physically and mentally exhausted. She would also have more time for her children. Her skill and first hand experience would be worth its weight in gold. May she have success with whatever she decides.

Love Ivyโ€™s antics. The picture of her in the lamp is terrific. I agree about Kendra looking into an appraiser. They make so much money. And you are out and about. Not stuck indoors all day. She certainly has talent.

  5. Whatever is in that lampshade must be very tempting to Ivy!

Has Kendra ever thought about getting into the mortgage business? With her real estate background it might be a logical extension of that work. I don’t know what the training requirements are but everyone seems to be making loads of money, especially with our current low interest rates.

  7. Thank you so much for sharing that photo of curious Ivy! Gave me a grin on a gray, dreary Monday.

And how exciting to see signs of Spring there!! Our growing seasons are about six weeks behind your zone, so this gives me hope! Or, as my sweet Husband would say: Light at the end of the tunnel—and it’s not a *train*!

Praying for Kendra to find one or more gigs for her many talents.

  8. A squirrel or possibly a couple of squirrels more than likely buried the bulbs that they dug up from somewhere else. They love digging in planters – I always have to put a layer of large stones on top of the planters I put outside on my front stoop and on the patio around my Shezebo in the warm weather, otherwise the squirrels are digging in them constantly.

  9. Brenda,
it’s always frustrating to work on a huge project and then nada! If I was Kendra, I would become an appraiser. I know she is a realtor and flipper; so why not an appraiser also! In her business plan, it seems that this is the area that is beyond her control and giving her fits. If she can become an appraiser, she will THWART these lazy morons and circumvent the harm they are inflicting on her business!
Wow, that picture of Ivy up inside the lampshade with her mouth open and teeth bared was something! I’ll bet a tiny moth snuck in and she saw it and the craziness accelerated.
We are supposed to get our coldest weather this week in the Pacific Northwest. I feed the songbirds and squirrels and chipmunks all winter long. Black oil sunflower seeds and unsalted peanuts and I also make a smear of p-nut butter, suet and cracked corn and unshelled seeds. I also keep a hummingbird feeder filled so the ones that overwinter here naturally have a source of nutrition. I bring the feeders in at night so I don’t lure bears . Our neighbor took a picture of a cougar lounging on top of her hot tub cover at the end of her deck! Yikes!!!

  10. Kendra definitely has exquisite taste when it comes to decorating. Perhaps she could offer people some design advice? Like they could send pics or videos of the home and she could be paid to make design suggestions.

  11. We feed the birds also Do you place suet squares out for your birds we have been getting the female and male downy woodpeckers they are fun to watch. Have a great day and stay warm

  12. How exciting to see spring bulbs emerging. It is very cold today here in Canada but the sun is shining and I can feel the warmth. Nothing is going to poke thru the earth in my garden as yet.
I felt so bad for the squirrels and birds last night as it was very cold, so even though we are not supposed to feed the squirrels they got something that resembled peanut butter sandwiches and some peanuts When they have finished the birds fly down to eat the rest.
We do have some snow but not much but will have to go out and try and clear the pathway in front of the house and then put some salt down.

Ivy is definitely a very silly cat!
    Enjoy your day!
