Simon & The Zoomies

Simon had a serious case of the zoomies this morning.

He runs through the house, chirping and hopping from the furniture to the cat trees. He’s very accurate and never slips and falls. Ivy watches him from her perch in the cat tree. He is noisy as he hops from one surface to the other.
When he’s tired, he sprawls out on a perch on one of the cat trees and dozes in the sunlight.
Ivy sits and stares out the window. She is not surprised by anything Simon does. Daisy doesn’t get the zoomies as much as Simon does. Maybe it’s because Simon is male and more active.

Simon is the one who mainly gets into mischief, unspooling the toilet paper and hiding toys under the rugs. Daisy is calmer and quieter, but she seems to enjoy watching him hurl himself from the couch to the cat tree to the other cat tree and then race from the room.
Oh, this house is full of action these days.
Three cats are clamoring to be fed their canned food every morning. Daisy has this strange full-throated meow that sounds like a dull saw on wood when she wants to be fed.
They act like they’re starving half to death when they always have dry food to munch on, but they think the canned food is a special treat.
I feed the kittens in the laundry room and shut the door so Ivy can eat in the kitchen without them bothering her.
Kendra Worked In My Yard:
Kendra came over yesterday and worked in my front yard.
She dug grass out of the front flower beds and brought my galvanized containers and pots from the back yard, where they had put them when I moved here in November.

Some of the pots have plants emerging.
There is Lamb’s Ear, mint, and golden pennies. Kendra moved the Japanese maple tree to the other side of the steps. It still has dead leaves from last season, but tiny buds of new growth are showing up now.
I’m so happy the Lamb’s Ear came back. I spent about three summers looking for it. Then, one of my apartment neighbors brought me a small container she found at a store.

I’m going to plant shade plants in containers on the porch. I also took my house plants outside to spend the summer. House plants always seem to thrive when outside, but away from the sunlight.
I will plant hosta, coral bells, and other shade plants.
One side of the porch steps gets a bit of morning sun, which is why Kendra moved the Japanese maple tree there. It doesn’t like much sun, or the leaves burn.
I always enjoy seeing the little buds appear on the limbs and grow into leaves. I’ve had that tree for about six years, and I’ve moved it three times: from the nursery to my first apartment, then to my second apartment, and then here.

Shaking my headโฆ.boys will be boys!!!
If you werenโt halfway across the country from me, Iโd share all the plants you listed with you! Once you have lambโs ear, YOU HAVE LAMBโS EAR!!!! I diinded and planted it around then had to get rid of some of it, it took over.
I had it at the first apartment. But it was January when I moved from there, so it was dormant. Then it took me several years to find it. Or rather, a neighbor found it.
I love seeing Ivy with the kitties! I can’t wait to see all your plants this summer!
Kendra got things pretty much ready to plant. I always wait till April 15 to plant, because once I recall it snowing on April 14.
How exciting to watch your garden come to life & plan your shade garden. I’m planning a big pot of marigolds, a butterfly pea vine & maybe some rock rose or periwinkles. Moving to a new place in San Marcos, TX, next week. My 1st flower garden there will be small. I may be getting a senior cat, as well. Time will tell but I’m excited about the possibility!
I lived for a time in New Braunfels, TX. I always liked San Marcos.
My female cat, who is very much like Ivy, and who is now almost 11 years old, gets the zoomies sometimes! If I leave the front door cracked for her to come in and out, she loves that.. and runs in the house, back to my bedroom, onto the bed, and then back down the hallway, jumps up onto the back of my swivel chair, and sometimes knocks it over, and then runs back outside! It is such a game to her. sometimes she and my male cat who is her half brother, will do the same thing, running back and forth, chasing each other, and jumping on the back of that chair. They don’t “play” very often, but is so fun to watch when they do! My older girl, the mom of those two, would just sit and watch them. I’m sure she thought they were nuts! I had to have her euthanised a couple of weeks ago, as she got very sick and had pneumonia. I do miss her. Take care and enjoy those kitties! Marilyn
Oh, I’m so sorry about your mama kitty!
Oh Simon and his zoomiesโฆ how cute is he?!! Thatโs so much fun to watch. Kittens are adorable! Your Japanese maple tree is very hardy to survive 3 moves. And itโs so pretty. Iโll have to look and see if they grow well by me. I have a back porch, and I feel like it gets a decent amount of sun. Iโm almost afraid to put plants out there. I worry theyโll sunburn, which is funny, because plants generally live outside, lol! Theyโd probably be fine. Your porch is gonna be beautiful, and I canโt wait to see it! Kendra is so sweet to come help you out.
Yes, it’s wonderful that she takes time out of her own schedule to come help me. And I’m so grateful.
I am not too familiar with a Japanese Maple tree. Are they usually “as a rule” planted in a large container that you can move from place to place or can they also be planted in the ground and grow the same as if in a pot? I know they are Pretty.
We still have snow on the ground and expect more on Saturday. It will probably be May before my Hosta’s show up where I planted them in pots, and when I can start with the flowers. Can’t wait for warm “sunny” days.
Sounds like your house is full of “good times” with the cats. I think they love Mame as much as you do..Home Sweet Home!!!
You can plant Japanese maple trees in both the ground and very large container.
With trees and flowers budding it is a beautiful time of the year.
There’s a gorgeous yellow forsythia outside my window.
