Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I’m sure many of you already have everything planned out to cook. But I’m still looking. So would you like to help me decide? 

(Remember I don’t have a traditional oven.)

So let’s start looking at recipes…

Have you ever made turkey breast in the crock pot?

Here’s how Spicy Southern Kitchen says to cook it…

She says: “A turkey breast cooked in a slow cooker comes out exceptionally moist and flavorful. I added a packet of dry onion soup mix, some dried sage, and a chopped up onion, carrot, and celery stalk to really up the flavor. 
 
Just a few minutes of prep and about 5 to 7 hours of hands off time in the crock pot is all it takes (if the turkey is completely defrosted). 
 
You can check with an instant read thermometer to see if it is done.
 
The cooking juices, which are nicely flavored from the onion soup mix, are easy to turn into a yummy gravy with just a little flour.
Serve the gravy with sliced turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and dressing for an easy meal.”

Add A Pinch came up with this recipe for Southern cornbread dressing. I think I like the dressing better than the turkey!

 

Gimme Some Oven makes these mashes potatoes in her crock pot. Is there nothing you can’t make in the crock pot???

I’m not much for gravy, so I would skip that. Or I could go this route…



Seed At The Table cooked up this delectable sweet potato casserole. I do love sweet potatoes!

 

This mushroom green bean casserole looks delicious! It’s by Del Monte. What is a Thanksgiving meal without good old green bean casserole?

Then there’s fruit salad…

 

 

My Recipe Magic has this recipe for fruit salad. It sure does look good. And that would be delicious the next day as well.

 

 

Love From The Oven bakes this pumpkin pie. The ingredients are very much like the one I baked when the kids were at home and beyond.

I’m not a big bread eater. So I probably wouldn’t have hot rolls. That dressing would be enough for me. 

I’d probably get a can of cranberry sauce. Yes, I know it’s better to have fresh. But I really do like that canned cranberry sauce.

And even better are the leftovers! I wonder why it is that the Thanksgiving leftovers seem to taste better? 

So with my crock pot and convection oven, I can cook up a mighty tasty Thanksgiving meal. And boy, will there be leftovers galore!

  1. I would be happy just with cranberry sauce and cornbread dressing! My favorite part of the Thanksgiving dinner, well maybe pecan pie too. This will be my first year to cook it in 3 years, hope I remember how.

  2. I had it in mind to cook a breast in the crockpot and this recipe sounds delicious!!!! Thank you for the link.

    I'm making a green bean casserole too, making my own sauce instead of soup and frying up the onions myself too instead of canned. I don't know where I got the recipe but it is delicious and I've had comments on it about how good it was.

  3. I make chicken and dressing in my crock pot all the time. I put a package of Stove Top in the bottom, add a few chopped onions and chopped celery, add chicken broth, then I lay 2 chicken breasts on top and dot with a couple pats of butter. Cover and turn on high and cook for approx 4 hours. This really is super delicious. Just a thought for something similar to the regular Turkey & Dressing.

  4. Those recipes look wonderful, Brenda!! It will be nice to have all those leftovers for future meals as well – that's always a huge plus! I look forward to seeing what you end up making! Convection ovens are wonderful and I love my crockpot so between the two I'm sure you'll come up with a wonderful meal. xo

  6. Brenda this all sounds so good. I was thinking of doing a turkey breast this year instead of a whole turkey. Cooking it in the crock pot would be wonderful. All the trimmings I'll have are the same like you share and I too like the canned cranberry sauce. We like the berry version best but have had the jellied style too. Thanks for sharing.   7. This looks very much like what our meal will be on Thanksgiving. It's just the two of us since all family live a million miles away, and my husband always insists on cooking a turkey which he take the honors for. We will be doing a 12 lb turkey in the oven and freezing most of it at the end of the day on Thanksgiving. I think your idea of doing just turkey breasts in the crockpot is a great idea, and if you really love turkey, then do as many as you can fit in the crock pot and freeze the meat. It goes a long way. I do a green bean casserole also, except I don't add any sautéed mushrooms. My mouth waters just thinking about our dinner that day… YUMMO!

  8. The local grocery store often has split turkey breasts and they are more economical than a roasting chicken, and oh Brenda, cooking them in a crockpot is amazing. Super tender, then there's the broth towards a gravy or soup, etc. So I would highly recommend the crockpot for smaller cuts of turkey; absolutely! 🙂
