I have chosen 6 elements of a cozy home to share with you today.
My home is my favorite place to be because I have created a space that is comfy and cozy.
Spread A Color Palette Throughout Your Home
I firmly believe that a chosen color palette is important when deciding on decorating options.
Use Core Colors
1. Choose Different Shades Of Core Colors
I like to choose a few color options and then sprinkle them throughout all my home. My furniture is neutral. Thus I can change accent colors if I so choose.
A decorating color wheel will give you basic foundational ideas for how to pair colors in a room.
When you are decorating a home, think of the colors you would like to use as accents in each room.
My core colors are a golden-yellow, shades of green, and red. These days I’m using a lot of green and white, with touches of brown.
I have these colors scattered in every room in my apartment. This lends a sense of flow and continuation to your spaces.
Your colors “move the eye” from room to room.
Decorating Your Bedroom Is Important
You want your bedroom to feel tranquil and be comfortable. Bedding is an important choice so give it some thought before you purchase it.
I use lined thermal-insulated room darkening curtains to keep out light. If light is seeping in it makes it hard for me to sleep.
I wouldn’t skimp on bedding, because you spend a third of your life in your bed. And consequently your bedroom.
Oftentimes when someone moves into a home, the bedroom is the last room to be decorated. I wouldn’t do that.
Lamps Are Cozy Additions To A Room
2. Use Lamps & Banish Overhead Lighting
I detest overhead lighting. The soft glow of a lamp evokes a feeling of warmth.
Bright lights overhead just make me jittery and uncomfortable.
I have lamps in every room. Even my bathroom.
I often think I’m a lamp collector because it’s hard for me to pass up a good deal on a lamp. Even if I don’t need it!
House Plants Bring Nature Indoors
3. Add House Plants To Your Decor
There’s nothing quite like house plants to make a home feel loved. You are bringing nature into your home.
Decorating with indoor plants has numerous benefits. House plants produce extra oxygen through photosynthesis, which helps to reduce stress.
It’s well documented that house plants have a positive impact on our health and well-being.
There’s nothing like lush greenery to brighten up your spaces.
Books Make A Room Feel Lived In
4. Show Off Your Books
Books make a home look and feel lived in. The addition of books shine a light into the personality of the person or persons who live there.
The books in the above photo are mostly decorating and gardening books that I’ve gathered on the coffee table.
I suggest layering books around your home to show what your interests are. And books make great foundations to give height to decor placed on surfaces.
Quilts Are The Essence Of Warmth
5. Quilts
Your grandmother may have left you a stack of quilts. Display and show them off. Quilts are the very epitome of warmth and coziness.
I’ve made most of mine myself. And so they mean more to me because of all the time and effort I put into them.
I recall the many stitches it took from start to finish in making a quilt. The softness of the cotton underneath my fingers as I wove the three layers together.
Because of all these precious memories, my quilts are priceless to me. If there was a fire, one of the first things I’d want to grab are my quilts.
Add Acquired Collections
6. Show Off A Beloved Collection
Collections are also a glimpse into who lives in a home. It gives an inkling of the personality of that person.
A collection shows how the years that have molded you and the people who have inspired you.
I like to collect white pitchers and blue and green vintage bottles. I must add quilts to that I suppose, because I have lots of them.
Collections can be displayed in many ways. Arrange them on shelves, on tabletops, or on a mantel.
Some of your collections might pertain to certain seasons or holidays. Bring them out to share with family and friends. Maybe tell them how you got started collecting these items.
It might make for an interesting conversation!
There are many other ways to make your home feel cozy and loved. Candles, for instance.
Framed photos of family and friends. Tall house plants that soften corners.
Choose your own cozy elements and decorate your home accordingly.
Hello! I am wondering how you like your CD player and how long you have had it. I have three different brands in my Amazon cart at the moment and would love some feedback! I, like most others, have no problem with your affiliate links. I thoroughly enjoy your blog and wish you luck in your search for a new home.
I read lots and lots of reviews before I buy. I Google reviews online as well. I just looked in my orders and I bought it Dec. 15, 2020. It was my Christmas present as I don’t exchange gifts anymore. I do love it! I hope you see this. I couldn’t find an email address to send it to.
Thank you for your feedback! I did include my email but kept checking back here just in case. I also read all the reviews but, honestly, they start to confuse me after awhile! So it’s nice to hear a direct experience. If I choose yours, I will be sure to use your link!
I can’t believe I missed leaving a comment on this post! There are some troubling things happening in my corner of the world so my mind is very preoccupied. I’m spending lots of time with my hobbies/interests so I don’t go down the ‘overthinking rabbit hole”.
I love your home and all your decorating tips and ideas!
I enjoyed the elements you highlighted and the examples shared from your home decor. I have also been admiring the framed photograph of the farm, barn and field hanging above your caned end table. I am wondering if you took the photograph? It’s very lovely.
I love all these photos of your decor and cozy apartment. You have such a knack for creating beautiful arrangements and bringing color to a room.
Brenda, I love your sofa. Are you willing to share the manufacture.
Thanks
I believe it was England Furniture. The link is below. The upholstery is made of recycled plastic. I liked that it was environmentally friendly.

I love your home, it is everything you say it is. I have always been a minimalist and I can’t seem to change. I love the idea of the sound machines. It is not very often that I can’t sleep but would love one anyway.
I agree about the use of lamps in the home, especially when fall descends upon us. I really like the lamp with the glass base by your CD player.
Got that lamp from Tuesday Morning, one of my favorite haunts. Paid $21 for lamp and shade.
Thanks for the links you provide.
I followed one today😊
I just used the red Casaware I ordered after your recommendation, and I also just gifted my daughter with the set.
I like it that you research for me, as well as entertaining me with your blog.
Thanks for sharing your life with us.
I love that Casaware and use it nearly every day!
Your home is so serene, full of interest yet not busy. (Except for Ivy, on occasion- lol!)
The affiliate links are fine with me, they are unobtrusive – not big ads with photos – just highlighted titles. And easy to skip or fun to check out.
Mary
Hello Brenda. Happy Wednesday. Hope you heard good news on your offer for the new place. I believe if you decorate your place with no rules or trends just what you love you will always love where you live. Our homes are our sanctuary so it should reflect you and what brings you happiness and peace. Have a great rest of the week.
Nothing yet. Kendra gave them until Thursday at 5 p.m.
I’m grateful for the links, they have helped me to look at and order many things that you recommend Brenda!
You just described why your home is so peaceful despite having interesting things to look at in every room. After we built our home, a decorator advised me the goal was to not have every room “match,” but rather to “flow.” My education as an art teacher stressed the importance of a principle of design: repetition….moving colors from place to place in a piece to achieve a sense of balance. I’ve noticed your punches of white throughout your space which supplies another principle: unity. And you have a bonus “unifier” that moves from room to room as needed: IVY! 🙂
Your home is always so pretty….. I love the colors ! Reminds me of cottage / bungalow living !!!
It used to be every morning: Let’s see how Brenda is doing, her health, her patio, her pets. Now it has become: I wonder how many affiliate links she managed to put in this time. Nine today, the winner so far!
This comment is rude. No one makes you click on any link, you can scroll past. And if you have read Brenda’s blog for any length of time you know this is a source of income for her. There is no need to be so petty. Bless your heart and have a nice day.
I’m sorry if you don’t like the affiliate links. My blog income is way down for some reason and I’m trying to be able to afford to buy a home. You can always just ignore them.
Your fine design and photography outweigh any aggravation from the links. And I appreciate your need for income, especially as you are trying to make your living situation more secure and stable. I can live with it. I hope your offer is accepted.
Your links are fine, Brenda!
Maybe you didn’t mean it to come across so harshly, but I don’t believe ad links is the thing bothering you to have posted such a comment. I will offer a prayer to lesson whatever is the real reason that is bothering you. No need to try to throw shade on another woman. The world has enough of that. As women, we should only lift each other up more.
That was really rude to say! The links really aren’t bothersome at all, and they pertain to things she’s talking about. They are so much nicer than the pop up ads. Please try to be nicer next time. Brenda doesn’t deserve that. She tries really hard to bring us interesting and thoughtful content everyday.
There is earnest effort behind creating content for readers to appreciate. It is reasonable that bloggers be compensated for their work product and links are available for any who have interest and as noted, can simply be skipped for any who do not. Consider that we purchase books and magazines for our recreation, and this site offers articles of interest at no cost to us.
Ina – really??? Was your incredibly rude comment necessary??? If you don’t like what’s happening here then please move along. This is a source of income for Brenda! Sheesh!!!!!
