Last night was one of those long dark nights when I just couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned and turned and tossed. I must have got up a dozen times to get a drink or go to the bathroom.
For once it wasn’t Charlie waking me up. He slept peacefully while I lay there in bed waiting for the long night to finally end.
Doesn’t it seem like the hours pass more slowly when you can’t sleep?
There was no reason for my lack of sleep. I wasn’t worried about anything. But the arthritis in my hands were so painful I think that was part of it.
Arthritis Makes Sleep Difficult:
I got up and took Tylenol Arthritis (I can’t take aspirin type products) but it didn’t seem to help.
Yesterday I cleaned my apartment. Cleaning it usually means I get enough exercise to tire me out. But cleaning the whole apartment usually only takes about an hour.
I will say one wonderful thing about living in a small space. It doesn’t take long to clean it. I can dust, clean surfaces and the bathroom, and mop in about an hour.
Finally I got up around six and got on my yoga mat on the floor to do my morning stretches. That always helps my body feel less stiff.
Body Stretching:
I usually do the same body stretching routine at night, but I got busy and didn’t get them done yesterday evening. And I paid for it with aches and pains all night.
So I got up and fed the pet babies and made oatmeal and a cup of coffee and turned the Christmas tree lights on. Then I settled in my chair with Charlie and turned on the fireplace.
I get such joy from the small fireplace.
I seem to be a bit irritable this morning. That’s what lack of sleep does to me.
Taking Charlie To Acupuncture:
I will be taking Charlie to his acupuncture appointment around 9 a.m.
Ivy kept trying to run off with his second pair of socks yesterday. No matter where I put them she was trying to snatch them.
I finally had to sit on them because she just wouldn’t give up. I think he may need a bigger sock size because these keep slipping off. I’m going to talk to the vet about it.
Brenda,
I started being consistent with a magnesium supplement before bed every night and have been sleeping 8 hours straight through. What a difference! Dale
Yay, you put some of my favorites out, the Santa and the snowman!
I have some kind of stupid bug sickness! I woke up with a headache 2 mornings in a row and haven’t been able to keep anything in my stomach for 3 days! Plus I have a little bit of a sore throat! Arrrgh!
I hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight Brenda! Keep warm and cuddle with your fur babies!
I have been sleeping quite soundly most of the night but waking at least once with the cold sweats or whatever you call them. Where you wake up soaking wet and freezing cold. I just hate them but don’t know what causes them or whether there is anything to do for them. A few nights I don’t have one but most nights I do. Does anyone know anything to do to stop them? Or what causes them? My family doctor doesn’t seem to be much help. She just says yeah, some women have them and some don’t. Evidently she doesn’t or she would be more concerned and helpful.
I have to avoid drinking coffee, chocolate milk or cold drinks after 12 noon or the caffeine will keep me up at nite, too…did you drink any of these in the afternoon, Brenda?
I know how you feel on those sleepless nights. You cannot wait for daylight to come. It can be so frustrating. Hope you sleep better tonight.

l I’m glad I don’t have to contend with a land lord, but even at that there is always something needing repaired or replaced at our house. I tell my husband if he goes first, our house will fall into wrack and ruin because I’m not good at repairing things myself. You are good at speaking up for yourself and for that I say, “Bravo, to you.”
Hey i spy the Santa I have always admired. He’s hiding behind the elephants. The weather stripping will help a lot. This guy sounds like a keeper. Maybe a nap is in store for you today.
Yes, I put that Santa there specifically for you! I can’t sleep during the day.
The closer it gets to a full moon the more trouble I have sleeping. Seems to be a connection. I’m so glad you have new management where you live. Hope things turn around for good!
Bingo – Hubby seems to be the same way and of course our dogs act a little stranger!! 🙂 b
Hi Brenda,
I have had a few of those sleepless nights over nothing. So I feel your pain on that! Hopefully you can get in a nap today. Wow all the stuff that goes on in your apartment complex. That apartment with the tree growing in it should be condemned until it can be taken care of. That is crazy. Someone should send it to the news. That would get the apartment people on fixing things to have the embarrassing attention to the state of things in your apartment complex like a tree growing in the middle of the apartment!!!! Have a good day.
Kris
The things you tell me about that place are shocking, but that’s my problem. Other people constantly tell me I shouldn’t be shocked (or expect). Maybe I’d be less of a curmudgeon then.
I have to say that I understand the hands and arthritis. My dishwasher died and am not replacing it and it was pretty painful to do the dishes the first week. Then because I used my hands more, the pain ended up being less! That shock I enjoyed. LOL.
They should get rid of that apartment with the tree and maybe make it into a storage room. Ha!
Curious to know if your electric bill has taken a hit since you’ve gotten your fireplace. I’d love one!
So far I haven’t seen a change in the electric bill, but I have it averaged over 12 months so it’s lately been $95 a month.
Have you talked to Nathan since he left? Sounds like the new maintenance man could be a keeper! Hopefully things there will turn around.
Oh that Ivy, I just can’t stop giggling at some of her antics!! What a little crackpot she is!
I hate nights like that….I tossed and turned a bunch last night too, each time I woke up I would start a sleep story on my Calm app, and within a few minutes I was back asleep. I seriously love that app, it has changed the way I sleep entirely!
That is definitely a violation, isn’t there a code enforcement department in your county, not complaining is just playing into their hands.
I hate sleepless nights, you’re correct, they’re endless and I get cranky and without patience too, night before last I woke up around 2a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep!
Hope today is better for you.
What do you think Ivy would do if you put the second pair of socks on her? Yes, there are laws regarding providing heat and plumbing facilities to tenants. If people don’t stand up for their rights and complain, this is what happens. They get walked all over and go without heat for 3 months.
Yeah, she should have raised hell about her heater.
