What It Took To Get The Washer Working

I wanted you all to know that the washing machine problem is finally figured out, and what it took to get it working.

It never was the fault of the washer, by the way. Not one of the plumbers I called seemed to know how to deal with the workings of a washer like this. One that needed to be hooked up to the kitchen sink when I was using it.

The plumbers said the water pressure is too high for something like this scenario I’ve worked out for myself. Which was buying a washing machine to use without having plumbing in the wall to accommodate it.

In what it took to get the washer working, we were dealing with an all-in-one washer situation that didn't have plumbing in the wall.

I bought this washer to put where my stove used to be in my kitchen, so that I could do laundry. I needed a spot to put the washer where the water hose would reach the kitchen sink water spigot. So that meant moving the refrigerator and getting rid of the stove.

Finally I begged the apartment maintenance man to try to hook it up. I paid him his after hours asking price. This is not a normal job for the maintenance men to handle even during working hours.

After he got everything working, I found it kind of sad that this maintenance man figured out what all the plumbers could not. I believe he went to a place that sold plumbing parts for RVs, if I’m not mistaken. And found what he needed there.

The Maintenance Man’s Russian Background:

He told me a lot about himself and his family yesterday.

He and his wife came to the United States 15 years ago. Apparently they were allowed to acquire refugee status in this country. This was because they were not allowed to practice their chosen religion in Russia.

The maintenance man said he still has siblings in Russia. He said he has 6 children and 12 grandchildren. And he seemed very proud of all of them as he spoke to me about them.

We didn’t hit it off right away when I first moved here. He was new and seemed kind of stand-offish. But now I think I understand some of the reasons for that.

Like I always remind myself, don’t judge someone until you’ve walked in their shoes. And I admit that I was a bit judgmental. Sometimes I need to take my own advice.

He asked me for a piece of paper and a pen. Then he drew the way the washing machine fittings and hose looked. And left to find parts to get it working properly.

Someone Who Figured Out The Problem:

He brought back the parts that would deal with the water pressure. The other plumbers didn’t seem to have a clue about that.

Whatever it was that he did, now I can use the washing machine.

I did one load of laundry last night. It worked fine. No leaks anywhere or anything amiss.

I’m ever so thankful I can (crossing my fingers) take that task off my worry list and move on.

I thank you all for trying so hard to help me. It was very frustrating.

And it doesn’t help when plumbers come in and say the guy before them didn’t do something properly. But then they don’t know how to get the washer working either.

Now I’m stuck with parts that came from various places that I have no use for. But it’s not worth the small price I might get to track down plumber #4.

  5. Glad it is working. Perhaps you can take those extra plumbing parts and fit them together into some sort of garden ornament. Then maybe the cardinal would sit on it, and it would make the whole plumbing mess seem a bit better!

  6. I am so happy for you. It's the little things that become BIG……the straw that breaks the camel's back. And then…..someone comes along that actually knows something and you just want to hug them. He gave you a gift, actually….with his knowledge. Thank God he moved to America….so he could fix your plumbing!! I know what a relief it must be to you. Sleep well.

  10. So nice to hear you've become friends with this guy and he sounds like a really nice guy. You are one smart cookie, letting him talk about himself! I'd be baking those brownies for him. Make sure to tell them they are for his wife also, don't want you to be accused of something! LOL

  11. It's such an annoyance when an appliance isn't working properly! So glad you got it fixed and learned a little about someone else's life journey in the bargain. We just do not realize that the freedoms we enjoy in this country are only dreamed about by others. We need to take notice and protect them before they're gone and we wonder how it happened.

  12. I*'m so glad it's working and will keep my fingers crossed it will stay that way! Glad you made a new friend and it's true first impressions are rarely true. Have a great day!

  16. Figured you were busy but glad to see your post! Ugh to the dentist, I have to go soon. So happy that the washer is working better now. Water pressure is a funny thing and bad plumbers are numerous. It's interesting what we can learn when we spend a few minutes asking questions of someone and really see them in a new way. Glad that happened for you, maybe you can feel more comfortable asking him to help you in the future.
    hugs,
    Linda

  17. May God bless the Russian maintenance man ! I'm so glad and relieved that your washer is working now.. Do you think maybe "Mr. Fix-it" could use the parts somewhere else ?
I figured you were being held up in some way, shape or form because we didn't hear from you until now.. You need to give us your schedule so we won't worry and wonder.. Ha ha. Just a little jokey joke !
You deserve a crown and not the kind that goes in your mouth on your teeth. Wouldn't you like to be Queen for a day ? Like the old show that used to be on TV.
Thank goodness you can strike one problem off of your list. Now you need to find out why your eggs are freezing.. I think they need to give you a new/newer refrigerator.. OR the one you have needs to have the thermostat adjusted.. Maybe "Mr. Fix-it" would know how to do that ?
Best wishes for less stress in your life and more Brownies in the Breville !
    Charlotte
