This is how my story began. When I wrote my post yesterday, I didn’t realize that readers who didn’t follow me in Texas didn’t realize how this story began. I want to tell newer readers how it all began.
Yesterday morning I had just published my post. I was sipping my first cup of coffee and reading emails.
I had gotten a new newsletter from Nancy Medina who painted my geranium painting. And I as I was reading it, I was a bit shocked to see my name.
She told my story better and more concisely than I think I ever could.
What an honor to be featured on one of my favorite blogs, Cozy Little House, this week, for the painting Summer Siesta Geraniums. I’ve been reading Cozy for as long a I can remember, even before the day its author did something almost no cottage and decorating blog had ever done before. She wrote an entry about the end of her marriage. Thinking it was a private post only for her viewing, she accidentally hit the “publish” button.
From that moment, Cozy became a place that people from around the world could come for an honest reflection of what life is like behind the chintz curtains and polished perfection. The author, Brenda, has always been an incredibly gifted writer and photographer. She has taken her gifts one step further and created a safe place for her followers to share life’s challenges, and also to know they are not alone in some of the toughest situations we can face. Other nationally famous decorating bloggers have since followed suit, and a new movement of facing life head on behind the scenes seems to be developing as a result. Because many of these blogs have followers in the thousands and hundreds of thousands, the impact is immense.
Thank you so much Brenda for sharing your love of color and life with people for so many years! What a beautiful place to land.
After I read that I decided I needed to tell you what she was talking about. For those of you who didn’t know me back then.
So this is where I used to live in Texas. This was where I retreated to after what I told you what happened yesterday.
I had no intention of publishing that post that long ago day in 2011. As someone who often writes for therapeutic reasons, I’d been pouring out my soul in Drafts and leaving them there. They were never supposed to be seen by anyone else.
But I slipped up. I thought I published a post called “Mellow Yellow” about my love for the color yellow. This would have been 2011 and I lost all my posts between 2009-2013, unfortunately. But that post showcased yellow flowers in my garden.
I may not have the posts I wrote since April 2009 for this blog, but I do have the photos I’ve kept on one computer. So I’m bringing them out today to show you what my life looked like back then.
I'm Brenda, creator of Cozy Little House. I live with my cat, Ivy, who keeps me laughing. I graduated from journalism school with a degree in professional writing and won awards for feature writing. I practice gratitude and enjoy my solitude. The glass is always half-full.
