Well, Ivy has another beloved quilt stack to sleep on. I suppose Ivy is the new co-decorator around here now. Might as well give her a title.
She kept sneaking off with stuff from my winter table vignette. So now she has another quilt stack to enjoy. I always like to look at these quilts anyway. The colors are so cheerful.
Nathan the boy scout:
I was taking out the trash yesterday and ran into Nathan. (If you’ve forgotten, he’s the latest maintenance man.)
We chatted for a few minutes down at the corner. Then Nathan looked up saw a man walking to his car and said: “Oh, I’ve got to go help Mr. So & So with his laundry.”
The poor man was having trouble walking with his cane. Nathan rushes over there and takes his laundry basket he’d brought out of the laundry room.
What a boy scout. Then I overheard (yeah, I’m nosy) him saying he’d be happy to take Mr. So & So to his doctor’s appointment.
It does my heart good to see a young man show such respect for his elders. Boy, that makes me sound like an old fuddy-duddy.
I told him I was going to start calling him boy scout.
Nathan called me Miss Brenda until I told him I felt like I was cast in the movie “Driving Miss Daisy.” So now he calls me Brenda. He said his mother taught him to address people in a certain respectful manner.
Well, his mother lives in Austria so he’s got a bunch of mothers around here now.
When I was moving in here I was wearing the cam boot for my ankle. I asked the maintenance man at the time if he’d help me get something from my car to the door.
It was evening and I was alone trying to get random things moved after the movers left. I’m not sure why he was still here.
He told me it was against policy to help a tenant. Due to insurance concerns. I just looked at him till he gave up and helped me carry it to the door.
Nathan needs to get a new battery for his truck before he takes Mr. So & So to the doctor. Because every time he needs to start his truck he comes down here for my keys to jump start it. Said he’d have to wait till he got paid again to get a new battery.
The first time he asked I went out there and moved my vehicle over to his. After that I just started leaving the keys just inside the door. Told him to just come get them when he needs another jump start.
Here’s Charlie this morning on the patio.
Patio Door Problems:
Oh, I may be getting a new door for my patio. This one keeps getting stuck in the middle of the night when I let Charlie out.
Well, it gets stuck during the day too. But it’s particularly annoying when it’s the middle of the night.
They might be French doors. That’s what I’m hoping for. Several other apartments have French doors for some odd reason. The rest have these old sliding patio doors.
It’s another gray day. Yesterday we had sunshine and the whole world looked brighter. Today we’re back to gray. We went a whole week without sun.
It doesn’t particularly bother me all that much. But I do know that it has a harmful effect on the mood of many people.
I just keep telling myself that we’re mere months away from spring. And plants coming back up. Leaves sprouting on the trees. Seems like a time of rebirth.
What I’m Reading:
I’m reading a lot of books these days. I start reading about 7 p.m. and stop about 9:30. Which is when these old bones need to go to sleep.
I start a book one night and typically finish it the next. Last night I finished “The Last Thing She Remembers.” It doesn’t even have a cover for me to show you yet because it isn’t coming out until May.
I’ve been getting ebooks through Netgalley for my Kindle. That way actual books aren’t piling up around here taking up space.
Before that one I read these books in the past week.
Latest Liz News:
Liz has reached out to me to let me know how the divorce is progressing.
Last I heard from her she was waiting in her attorney’s office to send a certified letter to her soon-to-be ex.
He keeps showing up wherever she is. This needs to stop. Time to get a restraining order. It’s that kind of crazy that can get out of control quick.
Liz has been offered a nursing job in another state, making quite a bit more money. I think she should take the job and put space between herself and this man. However her daughter and grandson live nearby and she hates to leave them.
So I don’t know what her decision on that is yet. I’ll let you know.
Miss Ivy is walking all over me demanding her lunch. I guess I’d better get up and take care of these two fur babies of mine.
