Several of you have mentioned that I should consider getting pipe cleaners for Ivy to play with because your cat likes them.
So I ordered them a few days ago. They arrived late yesterday afternoon.
I took some out and bent them into a circle. Then I wrapped the ends around the circle until they were inside it. Well, I didn’t want her to poke an eye out with it right off the bat!

She doesn’t seem to know quite what to make of it. Right now Ivy is peering down at it as though it could possibly be a snake.

Maybe that’s what cats think about pipe cleaners. That they are prey to keep a close eye on.
Then she’ll grab it in her mouth and toss it into the air. It’s so funny to watch her throw one up in the air and then jump up after it. At least it gives her a bit of exercise.
She also brings them to me to play fetch. It’s one thing to throw a swirly toy that will roll. The circles of pipe cleaners just fall and don’t move.
Who would have thought simple pipe cleaners could create so much fun for a cat?
But then, cats are odd creatures. They like boxes and containers they can squeeze inside. The tighter the better for some reason. And things you’d throw away like price tags and such. Well, Ivy’s all over that.
And cats are so darned curious! I don’t think there is one nook or cranny in this apartment that Ivy hasn’t investigated.
Thanks for suggesting the pipe cleaners. She’s having a ball with them.
She’s also pushing them under furniture, then begging me to get the yardstick to swipe them back out.
Ivy’s Type:
Ivy is not the type of cat to get in my lap or sit against me. But she seems to go where I go most of the time.
She likes to climb up in her cat tree and look out the window at birds and squirrels.
Otherwise she tends to follow me around. Not like a dog that would be at your heels. But languidly. As though she’s a member of the Secret Service detail and just has to keep me within sight.
I knew that Ivy was different from the first night she came home with me. That was the night when she put crickets in the feet of my house slippers.
She was never going to be just your average cat, if there is such a thing. That was clear from the get-go.
Ivy has always done things that make me shake my head in consternation or amazement. Ivy is very smart, I’ll give her that.
Ivy always has me laughing. There’s never really a dull moment with Ivy in the room.
I suppose she is the yin to my yang. We are good companions. Ivy is a quiet cat, but that doesn’t mean she sleeps all the time.

She’s always up to something. And then when she tires of it, she’s sleeping.
I suppose cats have to sleep a lot so they will have the energy to eat and run and play.
Cats have a good life, don’t they?
Ivy has tired of the pipe cleaner for now. She is in the window behind my chair watching birds. Another favorite pastime of hers.

The photos of Ivy and her pipe cleaners make me smile!
Yes, I agree….make the pipe cleaner into a circle…my kitties love playing with the little “wheel” and tossing it into the air as it spins! I cut my pipe cleaners so they are about 6 to 8 inches. I put a bunch into a sturdy cup and my female lives pulling them out one by one! I make little chains of 3 or 4 little circles I’ve twisted together and they love those too! Ivy is so pretty and fun to see all her antics. Marilyn
Pets are wonderful and such good company. Our pupper is just 2 now and he’s still quite mischievous, but also very entertainging.
Since I no longer have pet cats, I so love seeing Ivy at play. I must tell you though, just reading the title “Ivy and the Pipe Cleaners” gave me a laugh. It sounded like Ivy had started a Do-Wop singing group ๐
Ha…ha…ha….
Thatโs funny Barbara!
So sweet.
My kitties used to like the pipe cleaners if they had been coiled around my finger. Made it easy to toss and carrying around.
They would bring them to me to throw so they could retrieve them. One of our favorite games.
I still find one occasionally that slipped behind furniture or under a couch. Dear memories.
Oh, that Ivy Lou – she is wonderful, adorable, cute, sweet, etc. I was going to suggest the same thing Andrea R suggested – twist the pipe cleaner around your finger to coil it. I think she’d enjoy it, as well.
Our pets provide so much love and entertainment. We’re truly blessed!
Have a great day.
Isn’t it nice there are so many squirrels and birds around for Ivy to watch?? Funny cat. Most animals are quite humorous I think. Ours were too!!
Ivy is just so stinking cute! I love hearing about her antics and seeing pictures of her. Gosh, she’s so beautiful and entertaining, lol. I laughed at her being your secret service detail. How funny is that?! I have a puppy, and she follows me everywhere, like my shadow. And if I’m doing laundry, she always wants to “help” me, lol. Gotta love our babies!
Secret service detail! You crack me up! Hearing about your day to day and Miss Ivyโs antics is a refreshing change from all the pictures of tons of seasonal decor stuffed into a picture. While that is fun once in awhile, I think most of us like the way you present things and share your average day similar to how we probable live our lives. While not perfect, we are all looking for the little things in our day that bring us joy and it is kind of you to share your day with us.
Brenda, twist the pipe cleaner around your finger to make a spiral. Ivy will love it!
I can say, truthfully, that I miss my cat each and every day.
Thank you so much for sharing Ivy with us. She adds laughter to the day. It’s always fun to see “what next” with Ivy…
Icy rain and LOTS of wind today in WI. Trees are just a blowing. Good to be in a warm cozy house, with a cup of coffee in hand.
I read this as my cat is cuddled up next to my leg…she amazes us with her antics every day…she too loves to watch the birds outside from all her favorite places she has claimed as her own…She has brought great joy to our lives and we are so glad we took the plunge and got her after losing our other cat…when we got her someone asked me why would we go and get another cat? My answer was because we can…lol..no regrets here…it has been a joy…even when she is naughty…thanks for sharing Ivy with us all๐
Love your fur baby. Glad you have her to keep you company.
House pets are wonderful, whether it be a cat or a dog. They give us so much entertainment and so much love. And Ivy is a real treat. Love when you post about her. You and Ivy have a blessed day.
