A Girl Can Buy Herself A Valentine Bouquet

If you’re single, has it occurred to you that a girl can always buy herself a Valentine’s bouquet? That we don’t need a man to buy it for us?

We’re women who can take care of ourselves. We don’t need a companion to help us celebrate Valentine’s Day. Though you may have been raised to think differently.

In A Girl Can Buy Herself A Valentine Bouquet, here is my bouquet I bought.

Change Pre-Conceived Ideas About Being Single On Holidays:

This Valentine’s Day is the day to change all those pre-conceived ideas if you’re single, divorced, or widowed.

In fact, I think we have a duty to buy ourselves a nice pretty bouquet should we desire to do so. To heck with waiting for men to think of doing it for us.

And I did just that at Walmart this morning. Right now I’m gazing at that bouquet as I sit here working on my computer.

I brought the bouquet home and put it in a pretty pitcher on my dining table. And I will enjoy it as I dine alone, as I do most of the time.

Celebrate With A Takeout Meal Or Dine In A Restaurant Alone:

What’s your favorite take-out? Chinese? A nice juicy steak?

In A Girl Can Buy Herself A Valentine Bouquet, I brought mine home and put it in this pretty green pitcher.

Well, order that for yourself on Valentine’s Day. Set a pretty place setting for one. Light a favorite candle. Turn on some music and enjoy the ambiance as you eat your special meal.

Or you could go out and dine in a restaurant.

It’s time we women learn to celebrate holidays alone. If we’re not in a relationship, that does not mean we can’t be happy when we’re alone. Many women happen to love living alone, and I’m one of them.

Red velvet Pepperidge Farm frozen cake I shall eat on Valentine's Day

Buy Yourself A Favorite Dessert:

To make my day even more special I took a trip down the frozen food aisle of Walmart. I purchased two frozen Pepperidge Farm cakes.

One is a creamy red velvet cake and the other is a German chocolate cake.

Or maybe I'll eat the German Chocolate cake I purchased at the same time.

I just had to try a bite of the red velvet cake and it is absolutely divine! Wicked sweet. And oh, that cream filling is so delicious!

Here are 3 reasons to celebrate being a single woman on Valentine’s Day.

  • You can pick out the flowers that you really want
  • And you can buy yourself a box of chocolates
  • If you so desire, you can eat the entire box!

Yes, you can choose to do whatever you want on Valentine’s Day.

A Woman Does Not Need A Male Companion On Valentine’s Day:

This girl certainly does not need a male companion to have fun on what is thought of as a “couples” celebrated holiday.

If you don’t celebrate Valentine’s day because you aren’t part of a couple, then you’re doing yourself a disservice.

Because you are special.

Isn’t that something to celebrate?

I am a happy girl. Life is good.

And I celebrate holidays alone on a regular basis.

  1. Good for you. I bought myself some tulips today and felt a little weird as I was surrounded by men buying roses! Very silly!

Enjoy your day, the flowers are beautiful and I do think you have found the happiness you deserve.

  2. You are a wise lady, Brenda, "Because you are special all by yourself" is SO true. Because really, learning to love and appreciate the gift of "me", truly is an important lesson to learn.
How I wish I could get that through the heads of the moms that I meet, whose precious young I take care of. Oh the pain they would avoid and the terrible things little ones would never have to see and not ever get out of their heads.
Good for you dear happy lady!
Sending virtual hugs your way, Cindy

  3. Great post. We can not expect someone else to make us happy.
I enjoy buying my self flowers year round. They are so happy.
Thanks for the tip about the cakes. They sound yummy.

  4. Brenda, you always share a message that benefits others.
You are also generous and supportive of all bloggers.
Thank you for sharing our Thoughts of Home on Thursday graphic in your sidebar.

    Happy Valentine's Day!

  5. I got lucky and married the right guy when I was a teenager. 40 years later he is still the nicest, kindest, gentlest man you will every meet. Hardworking, loyal and a great father. But if I want flowers – I buy them myself! For Valentines Day we are picking up a pizza and babysitting a grandchild. Wouldn't have it any other way. I would rather pick out my own gifts anyway. Secret to long marriage? Let him sit home with the remote (where he wants to be) while I do girl's night with my friends. Gives us something to talk about.

  6. A great post for all of us, whether we are single or married. I may just pick up some flowers this weekend, too–no man that I know is going to get me any! Your bouquet is so pretty, perky, and cheerful–love the mix of colors and shapes. I'm still admiring your tiny quilt! Happy Valentine's Day, Brenda!

  7. I am worth it! I buy myself flowers (beautiful tulips this year) and candy if I want it. I am so happy with my single life. I have much love from my family. I was not lucky to find that 'forever' love with a man but my life is rich and full as it is.
    hugs,
    Linda

  8. Way to go! You live the principles that Sarah Ban Breathnach wrote of so beautifully years ago in Romancing the Ordinary. I still read her book year round. She wrote that Life is the best lover!

  9. Gorgeous flowers! I went to WalMart again today because I forgot a few things last time and looked again at the flowers. I didn't see a bouquet with a sunflower, if I had, I'd have been tempted to buy it. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. I actually went to two Walmart Markets (the small stores) and didn't like my choices at the first one. The bouquet at the second one had one sunflower. So I got it.

  10. Brenda, I love the small quilt with your beautiful bouquet of flowers…a breath of fresh air! I think you did the right thing purchasing two cakes! I am making a red velvet for tomorrow! Wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day doing exactly what you want to do!

  11. How right you are Brenda…Your flowers are gorgeous…those little Pepperidge Farm cakes are soooo yummy…

You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.

  12. Great ideas for those of us who are single! I also hate when people refer to Feb. 14th as "SAD" day (Single Awarence Day). I wish I still had my sweet furbaby with me, but thankfully I am babysitting my grand-dog this weekend, so she can keep me company. Enjoy your beautiful flowers and that delicious Red Velvet cake…yummy!

  13. Your post made me smile! I often buy myself pretty things, special foods, candles, music, and I am married! Somethime it is just easier that way. No expectations so surprises, and no disappointments.

  14. I love your mini quilt. The pitcher and flowers are very pretty. Dang, the one thing I never buy for myself is real flowers. I have to go to Walmart today and now I'm thinking of flowers to put on my list.
A good post for single and married women.

    1. You're absolutely correct, Marty! So many young women (and I was one of them) think their boyfriend/husband can make them happy. The truth of the matter is: No one can make you happy. And if you're sitting around waiting for that to happen, you'll be sitting there a very long time.

  15. Indeed!!!! Great post! My doggie girlfriend and I will order our favorite pizza and go to the park for a long walk(if the weather works out…it is supposed to be rain, sleet, snow and ice here)…and just be thankful for us!!!!

  16. You are just awesome, Brenda. You are inspiration for so many woman out there….they need to know that being alone and happy and at peace is so much better than being in a bad relationship!!

  17. Bravo! While it's wonderful having a special someone in your life, it can be just as wonderful being single–it's all in how you view it. That red velvet cake is making my mouth water! I love the Kimberley's Bakeshoppe Gourmet Red Velvet cupcakes found at the Walmart bakery. I'm all about that decadent frosting piled on top! 🙂 I just might have to treat myself to one this weekend…

Thanks for the excellent reminder to pamper ourselves from time to time.
