Curtain Problem, The Cats, & Hot Weather

Yesterday, I was in my bedroom watching a scary movie called Copycat from the nineties. Right at the end, when the story was coming to a close, I heard a loud crash. And I just about jumped out of my skin.

Of course, I figured the kittens were up to mischief. But no, they were in the cat tree in the guest room, sleeping. So I walked around and found that one side of the office curtains had fallen. However, the other side is still hanging on the adhesive hook.

I’m wondering if this was because we didn’t wait 24 hours after adhering them to the wall. At any rate, it’s too high for me to reach, so one side is still hanging on. I hope those of you who ordered them wait 24 hours. The adhesive hooks are supposed to hold 44 pounds.

Either we didn’t clean the area enough, or we put the curtains up too soon, or I’m just having bad luck. We didn’t wait 24 hours because Greg wouldn’t be there for 24 hours after that, and I didn’t want to wait that long.

So please, if you order them, follow the directions exactly. I first saw this idea on Instagram, and they didn’t seem to have any trouble keeping the curtain rod in place.

What The Cats Are Up To:

That Simon is something else. He gets the zoomies at least once a day. He’ll do his seal bark and run around, usually with his tail arced like a lasso.

That boy has a lot of energy. I don’t see Daisy doing this, and as I recall, Ivy never did that.

Daisy is talking to me.

Daisy makes odd sounds, but they’re not like Simon’s. Whenever I walk up to her, she makes this hoarse, bleating-type sound like she’s telling me something. It sounds like her throat is sore. I guess it’s just her unique greeting.

What would I do without my cat companions?

I feed the three outdoor cats the neighborhood cares for, and the cats inside love to watch them. They’re sweet kitties, but they won’t let me pet them yet. One is black and white, and the other two are orange-colored like Daisy.

I hate that they have to be outside, but Smitty next door says there’s a way for them to enter his cooler basement. This house I’m living in doesn’t have a basement.

I ensure they have food and fresh water on the porch. At this time last year, I was feeding one cat; now I’m feeding six!

Heat:

Last week, it was cool enough to spend time outdoors. But this week, boy, is it hot!

I was in the car the other day, sitting at a drive-thru, when the heat inside reached 130 degrees with the air conditioning running full blast. The weather went from cool enough to enjoy the outdoors to sweltering in 24 hours.

Did any of you see the news about the road buckling under cars in Missouri? Wouldn’t that scare you half senseless?

Here is what a bystander witnessed and filmed at the scene. Can you imagine what it will feel like for workers repairing the street?

I need to stay off the roads. If my 19-year-old car broke down, I’d be in a real fix. So be careful out there, folks! Every time I read something in the news, it’s usually pretty scary.

Updated to Add: I went into my office and applied another adhesive hook. I will wait 24 hours and try it again, as the other side is still up. No, it fell too.

  1. I think it’s super hot across the whole US and most of Canada right now. With the heat index, it’s been 105+ every day here in northeast IL for about the past week. The humidity has shot up today because storms are coming in. I was out running errands this morning and I was literally dripping with sweat when I got home. I just finished putting everything away, getting something to eat, and will get in the shower in just a moment.

I’m still feeding and watering Blanco, the neighborhood feral. I have a heated outdoor cat house for him in the winter, but I always wonder where he goes to cool down in weather like this. I feel so bad for him.

    1. Poor Blanco. But it’s nice what you do for him in winter.

Sounds to me like your car AC needs some more freon or whatever coolant it uses. No way it should have gotten that hot inside the car no matter the heat outside. We live in sweltering heat too. It has not gotten to 100 until the past few days, which is very cool for here…usually gets to 100 in April or May for sure. But we too try to stay home when it is super hot!!

    1. I went out without really thinking it through. My car was gone over by a mechanic a little over a month ago, and he said it was fine. It was blasting out cold air. But the temperature gauge is up near the top of the windshield.

  3. Brenda, those adhesive strips can be picky sometimes!
It’s also very hot here in TN. My weather station outside said our heat index was 120 at 9AM this morning. I’m trying to keep my plants all watered, they dry out every day right now. They say this is going to last until sometime next week. Whew Summers in the South have gotten too much!

    1. I’m now watering my outdoor plants in the morning and sometimes in the evening.
