Actor Douglas Henshall is perhaps best known for his TV role as Jimmy Perez in Shetland. But he has played many characters in his illustrious career.
In the BBC crime drama series, he investigates crimes in the remote and picturesque Shetland Islands. The show received critical acclaim, and Henshall’s portrayal of Jimmy Pérez earned him a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in 2016.
Douglas Henshall’s departure from his role in Shetland, which he starred in from 2013 to 2022, left DI Jimmy Perez fans heartbroken.

This is what the actor said about leaving “Shetland” in season 7:
“I decided to leave a few years ago because I felt that Perez’s story was coming to a natural end. It was time to find a resolution to Perez’s private life.”
“I never wanted to ruin the things that were unique to him and our series so it felt like the right time to wrap up his story in a way that would be satisfactory to everybody.”
“I am aware we’re not changing the world in any way, shape or form but as far as crime shows go, Shetland does really well in that genre. We tell stories that are very good, the characters are great and I wanted to go out on a high.”

Thanks for this info.Loved Shetland and look forward to the series.
I had Netflix for a while, until recently. I never did watch Shetland. I still have Amazon Prime, but it probably isn’t on there. Out of all the shows you’ve recommended, Vera is the one I thought sounded the most interesting. I’m glad you’ll be able to watch your eye candy again, even if he’s on another show, lol. 😊
I am currently walking down memory lane by watching old shows for free at Amazon Freevee, along with shows I watch on Hulu and Discovery+. I am sticking to shows that aren’t dramas but are competitions involving things I can relate to – like cooking (Master Chef, Hell’s Kitchen), and sewing/fashion (Project Runway Allstars and when I finish with that, I’ll go back to Season 1 and start over with Project Runway). If some producer made a series based on one of Jane Austen’s novels, I would probably watch it forever! For my entertainment, I prefer to not deal with the trials and tribulations of living in the 21st century. Hot as Hades today but the dew point has come down from 69 to 58. Still can’t breathe easily outside because we’re once again covered with smoke from the Canadian wildfires and will be through Monday. Oy!
