My First Walmart InHome Delivery
Thursday was my first Walmart InHome delivery. I need more help when it comes to things like carrying groceries these days.
You get 30 days free to see if you like the service before committing.
On the day of my first InHome delivery, they sent me the name of the person who would be delivering my groceries. As well as a photo of him. His name was Clayton.
When he arrived, he put covers over his shoes so nothing was tracked inside.
Frozen food was in one hard plastic box that was covered and kept frozen. Refrigerated items were in another. And the non-perishables were separate.
Clayton was very friendly and courteous. He asked where I wanted my groceries. I told him to put the refrigerated items in the refrigerator and the frozen food in my separate freezer.
After he put my groceries where and I said I wanted them, he wiped down any area he had touched.
I was impressed with the service and told him I was grateful that they were providing it.
Who Delivers Your Groceries:
This service is handled by specialized Walmart associates. There are no added fees, tips, or markups.
The InHome deliverers will have worked at the store for at least a year.
The person selected to bring your groceries into your home has been through various background checks. They also wear cameras when they enter your home.
I don’t know who Walmart uses for their Walmart+ grocery deliveries now. But they use a third party delivery service and I wasn’t real happy with them.
Plus I was having a hard time bringing the heavy sacks indoors.
Is Walmart+ and Walmart InHome Different?
Yes, they are. I already had Walmart+ for the delivery service, and will be adding the Walmart InHome service to it.
The Walmart+ membership is $12.95/month or $98/annual. InHome is an additional flat fee of $7/month or $40/year to Plus Up your Walmart+ membership.
Note: There will be two separate charges on your bank statement
Walmart+ InHome membership includes unlimited free store deliveries to your door, or into your garage or kitchen.
They will also pick up items you want to return at your home.
How It Works:
Walmart employees can enter your house or garage one of three ways: via an entry keypad, smart lock, or smart garage door opener.
Though you can use any type of entry keypad, you’ll have to store the code in the InHome app.
For locks and garage doors, the service requires specific smart-home gear.
Once inside, the delivery person will put away perishable and frozen food. They’ll leave other groceries wherever you prefer in your home.
This way you can have groceries delivered and put away while you’re at work, etc.
When they leave, they’ll sanitize any surfaces they touched. Employees also wear a camera that records the entire delivery.
If you have the app, you can view the footage for 30 minutes after the delivery and up to a week later.
Since I live in an apartment, this does not apply to me. I had him come in through my front door.
Do You You Tip Walmart InHome Deliverers?
When you order with InHome, you don’t pay delivery fees or tips. The employees are paid an hourly rate and do not accept tips.
If you’d like to express your appreciation, you can leave them a note or a comment on your delivery survey.
That’s what I did.
What You Also Get With An InHome Membership:
- Free shipping on eligible items from Walmart.com with no minimum price. This excludes oversized and freight shipping and Marketplace orders from third-party sellers.
- Savings of up to $0.05 per gallon at Walmart, Murphy USA, Murphy Express, and Sam’s Club gas stations.
- Scan & go, which lets you use your phone to scan items as you shop then use a self-checkout station to pay.
- Rx for less, with up to 85% off for thousands of prescriptions at Walmart Pharmacies.
I was very pleased with my first Walmart InHome delivery and just wish I’d taken advantage of it earlier.
Instead I’ve been carrying heavy bags of food from the door to the kitchen with an aching back and a sore ankle.
Wow, this sounds like a great service. Very helpful especially for those of us who cannot get out to shop anymore. I get Walmart grocery deliveries every week now since the pandemic. Generally quite satisfied. Living in Canada though this service is not offered here.
I am so glad you have found a convenient way to get groceries, and avoid lugging in the heavy bags and the difficulties of all of that. I think that it’s great that stores offer services such as this, as there is definitely a growing market for it!
I like the entire concept I hope you continue to use it, Brenda.
This may be a good way to get your cat litter delivered.
Yes!
Wonderful! My husband is a Walmart driver and we’ve had Walmart plus for years. I have my groceries delivered but I had no idea about this service. Sounds perfect!
It’s perfect for people like me anyway.
I’ve been using Walmart+ for about a year now and although I’ve been satisfied I think I’ll try Walmart Inhome service. With Walmart+ I’ve always been worried about my list being too small for them to make the trip. Considering the price of the tips I’ve given the past year I think the Inhome service will me more economical. This is really great information, Thanks!!!
That’s exactly what I thought! I always tip around $20, because I wait and order a lot at once. So I’d be saving at least $40 right there.
Sounds like a great plan! I love that they can bring the stuff inside and put it away! I still do my owning shopping, but I have a steep driveway, and carrying sacks up that driveway, into my house which is up 3 more steps, is very tiring! I’m 76, so it gets harder on my back. Sometimes I “resack” stuff before carrying them in, to make them lighter. I always ask them at checkout to not make the sacks so heavy, but they seem to ignore me!
I may try this service during the winter months, though almost hate to have the delivery people have to walk up my steep icey or snowly driveway! Marilyn
I love that they wipe down everything they touch, but I’m a touch OCD!
Thanks for this information. We are coping so far…but some days we do not leave the apt…depends on how we are feeling!!
I may go outside to the patio, but that’s about it. I have my groceries and have no need to go out for awhile. Especially as it gets cold.
That delivery service sounds great. My husband and I both have old iPads. I try to comment on every post you make. If I haven’t it’s because all my words disappear and my husband has similar issues. I don’t know why this happens and when I type the letters come up s o o o slowly.
Don’t worry about commenting. That you read or come to my site is enough for me!
What a great service! I tried Walmart+ on a 30-day free trial in July after my husband had his ankle fused. I ended up having the cost of most of my order refunded because I didn’t receive any of the refrigerated items I ordered.I canceled it at the end of the free trial.
It might be just me, but I had a terrible time posting this comment, due to all the pop up ads.
I’m sorry. I’ll talk to the ad company Monday.
If you have Windows 11 and are using its Edge browser, ad blocker should already be turned on automatically, unless it was somehow turned off. You can also turn it on for specific sites only and turn it off for others.
That sounds wonderful! I will be looking into this right way for my mother.
Some still like to go out to the store and pick out their groceries. I can no longer do that, so it’s a great service for me.
I wasn’t aware of the in home plus option with Walmart delivery.Starting with thinking my car was dead,I used them the 1st time and was very satisfied.
Next time was last week and there were a couple of hiccups, mostly due to my errors, easy fixes.
I’m having a hip replacement in December and have every intention of keeping them busy.
Oh, yes if you’re having surgery, you need to have this!
