A Christmas Memory
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Christmas Box and the Noel Collection comes “A Christmas Memory,” a poignant, deeply felt novel about loss, grief, the healing power of forgiveness, and the true meaning of the holiday season.
It’s 1967, and for young Richard it’s a time of heartbreak and turmoil. Over the span of a few months, his brother, Mark, is killed in Vietnam; his father loses his job and moves the family from California to his grandmother’s abandoned home in Utah; and his parents make the painful decision to separate.
With uncertainty rattling every corner of his life, Richard does his best to remain strong—but when he’s run down by bullies at his new school, he meets Mr. Foster, an elderly neighbor who chases off the bullies and invites Richard in for a cup of cocoa. Richard becomes fast friends with the wise, solitary man who inspires Richard’s love for books and whose dog, Gollum, becomes his closest companion.
As the holidays approach, the joy and light of Christmas seem unlikely to permeate the Evans home as things take a grim turn for the worse. And just when it seems like he has nothing left to lose, Richard is confronted by a startling revelation.
But with Mr. Foster’s wisdom and kindness, he learns for the first time what truly matters about the spirit of the season: that forgiveness can heal even the deepest wounds, and love endures long after the pain of loss subsides.
A Heart That Works
A visceral and deeply personal memoir by the star of the Amazon Prime series “Catastrophe”, about love, loss, and fatherhood.
“A Heart That Works” is Delaney’s intimate, unflinching, and fiercely funny exploration of what happened – from the harrowing illness to the vivid, bodily impact of grief and the blind, furious rage that followed through to the forceful, unstoppable love that remains. In the madness of his grief, Delaney grapples with the fragile miracle of life, the mysteries of death, and the question of purpose for those left behind.
Delaney’s memoir—profound, painful, full of emotion, and bracingly honest—offers solace to those who have faced devastation and shows us how grace may appear even in the darkest times.

Love your “mentions!” That Christmas porch looks fabulous!
The reads sound good. Love all the trees. Have a good week.
Hi Brenda, I’ve been getting the email notices of a new post daily. That Christmas tree from Followtheyellowbrick home blog is gorgeous! I can’t imagine how long it took to decorate it, she uses family mementos and ornaments along with family photographs. The tree is certainly eye candy and my guess is that anyone who sees it will not only be in awe but it will bring out the smiles too.
Love that red rug on the front porch, though wouldn’t be practical here in IL with all the snow we get!
Have a good weekend, Brenda.
Just reserved the books at my library – thanks for the recommendations! And love the different places to visit that you found for us. That tree is absolutely beautiful!
The veg wellington sure looks tasty!
Oh my goodness that tree is adorable and would be so much fun to make.
The treats and such all look yummy.
Wonderful lineup of books. Thank you!
I didn’t get an e-mail notification on today’s post, Brenda. However, I did one yesterday.
There’s something wrong. And my email service will not be back until Monday. So tomorrow’s likely likely send out either. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you so much for including the beautiful Christmas tree photo and the link to the Yellow Brick Home Kitchen tour which turned out to be part of a blog hop. Yay! I love to go on the Christmas blog hops while I’m doing my decorating and I had finished with Jennifer Rizzo’s and was just beginning to think about trying to search for more when I went to your list and clicked on the link.
Thank you for New & Notable Mentions 12/3/22
Another great line up of interesting reads. Thanks and enjoy your weekend.
I like the front porch post. I really love a pretty, welcoming, decorated front porch. I wish I had an outdoor space to decorate for the changing seasons. My porch is too small, so I always enjoy seeing others. Could you do a post showcasing decorated front porches?
Sure. I’ll look into that. Hey, I couldn’t get my RSS Feed to push out my post this morning on my email service. Did you get a notice in your email about this post today?
Not that I see
