Yesterday, Steve drove me to the Relax The Back Store, where I ordered a Lito Zero Gravity recliner.

(This post was updated on August 24, 2025, with additional information.)

Steve has had his Relax The Back recliner for over 20 years. He has had it reupholstered once, but all the mechanisms still work great.

The price was $3499 because it was part of their Black Friday sale. Thus, I saved $500 off the original price.

The zero-gravity electric recline system eases the body into a virtually weightless position. It does this by elevating the legs above the heart and relieving weight from the spine.

This chair relieves the soreness, tension, and fatigue caused by the earthโ€™s constant pulling, while its fixed-form seating position ensures maximum ergonomic posture at all recline angles.

What Is a Zero Gravity Chair?

A zero gravity chair uses the body to evenly distribute weight and reduce strain on the spine and joints, creating a “weightless” feeling.

Zero gravity mimics the posture astronauts adopt to handle the intense physical stress of launch by elevating the legs above the heart. This can improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and lessen back and hip pain.

Zero Gravity sleeping is often recommended to those with heart problems, high blood pressure, Restless Leg Syndrome, and Diabetes. Without pressure on your joints and muscles, plus a healthy spinal posture, your body will relax more fully.

Taking Chair Size Into Consideration:

Smaller rooms may not have enough space to accommodate a proper zero-gravity chair. Chairs can be 45″ in length and about 36″ in height.

Another thing that many people may not realize is that many zero-gravity chairs require a considerable amount of rear clearance to recline fully. This means that they will need to be placed as much as 19โ€ from the wall if you want to recline without moving the chair each time.

I have learned that it is best to place this chair in a corner away from the wall.

The person working with me at the Relax The Back store used my height to determine which chairs were suitable. I only looked at two chairs because the other one, which was appropriate for my height, was a manual chair.

The recliner will be picked up from the Oklahoma City warehouse on Wednesday afternoon and brought to my home in Tulsa.

  1. That looks like a great investment. Looking forward to hearing how you like it. It’s nice-looking, too! I hope that it helps your back problem. I know my husband would love one of these!

  2. Last year we replaced our 16-year-old mattress with and adjustable bed, and I know sleep in zero gravity position. I wanted it because of my lower back pain. It really made a difference and I was finally able to get my back pain under control. Hope your chair helps you as much as our bed helped me!

  3. I hope the new chair is helpful in treating your back pain. I received two notifications of this post – one with an arrival time shortly after 1:00 a.m., then another notification for the same post later in the morning. And then a notification later for a different post, so I’m going to move to the “different post” to read.

  4. The recliner looks wonderful and I hope it is a source of relief for you. I think it is a nice design as well. I am thinking that yoga stretches might also be helpful for your back and there are back stretches you can do while seated in a chair. Here is an example but there are tons of them on the internet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZvmKOPoFVo
The chair yoga poses, done while seated in a regular chair, are simple to do and yet may be quite effective:-)If you are new to yoga I would recommend that you do a few of the stretches a few times before you form an opinion. Yoga looks simple (as in a “how is that going to help?” kind of way) but in reality it is quite intense and the stretches can target every muscle and organ in the body. And also, the breath is very important in yoga – the breath is sending oxygen to the areas that you are stretching. Anyway just a thought for you. I do hope you love your new recliner!

Always difficult getting 100% comfortable when laying down in a bed, sofa or recliner.
Pricey but worth it for aches and pains.
Will be interesting to read your various opinions on the chair when using long term Brenda.

  6. I received the Dec 4th blog today Dec 5th at 1:25 am. Yesterday I received the Dec. 3rd blog. The chair looks like just what you need and I hope it gives you the much needed relief you need!

  8. Mary in PA says:

It looks very nice – what color did you choose? I hope it is delivered timely and that they put it all together for you, explaining some of the details. I know I would have to really study the manual – haha! Here’s hoping it is of great benefit to you and holds up well. What will you do with your current recliner?
It’s nice Steve has one, maybe he can help with any questions.

    1. I chose the color in the photo above. Not sure what to do with my current recliner. Might have room in my office for it.

  9. I’ve never heard of Relax the Back recliners but I’m very curious and can’t wait to see how you like it. I hope it helps your current challenges, Brenda.
It’s mentally and physically exhausting to have to deal with pain on a regular basis. I swear this whole getting old thing is not for sissies! Ugh!!!
    Have a great Sunday!

  10. A friend has one similar, as does her dad who lives with her. When the power went out, they were reclined and therefore stuck until help arrived. My sister has one similar as well, but hers has battery back-up in case the power goes off. Of course, you need to make sure the batteries are currently working. Not meaning to scare you, but just make sure your phone is nearby when you’re in your chair.

    1. Mine will have the battery back up.

    2. Yep, happened to my Dad but his broke in an upright position with his legs up. Luckily he could shimmy out. It was not this brand recliner. Hope you enjoy your recliner and it helps with your pain.
