Sunday Snippets 7/9/23
Oh my, has it gotten hot!
It’s been raining this morning, but I think it’s stopped now. That probably just means we’re going to have a very humid day.
How Humidity Works:
When it rains and the temperature feels warm outside, the rain from the ground will usually evaporate, creating a moist layer of humidity.
This moisture will remain at ground level until the wind blows it away.
However, if the wind blows here, something else might happen.
Falling Branches:
We’re scared these broken branches will fall from where they’re merely perched up in the trees, already severed.
These are all broken branches from the storm last month. These particular branches are between mine and Steve’s apartment.
When I step outside my front door, I walk about five feet and intersect with this sidewalk. That’s the way I go in or out from the front. And how we go to the parking lot.
Not just me and Steve, but many other residents.
If these branches decide to fall, we’re afraid one of us might get knocked in the head. But there’s no way for us to bring them down.
A neighbor said she’d alerted the staff here about the problem. I imagine it’s this way all over town.
It’s amazing how that powerful storm severed big branches from trees and uprooted trees all the way down to their roots.
What I’m Watching:
I’m now into the 5th season of Vera. She’s such a perfect actress for the character of Vera.
Brenda Blethyn, who plays this character, is I think 77 years old. I wonder how long she will continue in this role?
The other night I watched the episode where one of Vera’s female officers gets killed; she’s shot in the back. And how it affects Vera, though she always tries to appear tough as steel.
Thank goodness they’re already filming Season 13. I will be in line to watch it.
What I’m Reading:
I’m reading “Grown Ups” by Marian Keyes. I’ve never read this author’s books before, but like the way Marian Keyes writes. After I read this I will look up her other books, and maybe read some of them as well.
They’re a glamorous family, the Caseys. Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together–birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, weekends away.
And they’re a happy family. Johnny’s wife, Jessie–who has the most money–insists on it.
Under the surface, though, conditions are murkier. While some people clash, other people like each other far too much . . .
Still, everything manages to stay under control–that is, until Ed’s wife, Cara, gets a concussion and can’t keep her thoughts or opinions to herself. One careless remark at Johnny’s birthday party, with the entire family present, and Cara starts spilling all their secrets.

It’s been a rainy and humid season here in NJ – I’m hard-pressed to remember a pretty sunny day. The book sounds like one I’d enjoy.
Sorry for not reading regularly – life happens. I’m going to catch up on some of your older posts just to see have you’ve been doing.
That book actually sounds kind of funny. You’ll have to let us know your thoughts on it, after you finish reading it. I think your management office should take care of those tree limbs, before they become a liability! Be careful where you walk!
Yes to Enneavor! I just started watching it on PBS Masterpiece and I am loving it! The cinematography and filmwork is stunning in the beautiful backdrop of Oxford England.
I hope the apartment office gets those limbs down soon. It is a liability for them and a danger for the tenants. In a perfect world they should block the walkway off so people don’t walk under them until they have them removed.
“Endeavor”!!
I love the series Vera…she is really something. One of the above comments recommended Endeavor (Morse as a young policeman); it can be watched on Britbox. I love Endeavor and has just started the last season (9)…I will so sorry to be finished. I think that I will rewatch Morse…..Endeavor grown up with grey hair. The newspaper reporter is the Morse actors daughter in real life. Brenda, I was sad for Sheffield to send but I’ll be on to some else…perhaps the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer. Take care and stay cool, Charlotte
Wow, just look at that picture of your patio garden. Just fabulous. And yes, I hope management gets somebody in there to take those limbs down.
Oh Brenda, those tree branches sound so dangerous! Sure hope that management deals with them soon.
It’s been stormy here today (near Philly, PA) and there are local flood warnings. Super humid here too. Been staying inside today.
I had no idea “Vera” (actress) was 77! Wow, a year older than me. She truly plays the character so well – such a good program. Did you happen to catch the last season of Endevour which just ended last week. He was the young Inspector Morse. A wonderful series, highly recommended. Also, the Inspector Lewis series – all take place in beautiful Oxford.
Hope you’re feeling good again, hugs to you and to Ivy girl.
I have been looking for a new summer read and this sounds pretty good. Thanks for the suggestion. Have a great new week ahead.
