The Steam Cleaner Just Left
So the steam cleaner guy just left. He was able to get out all but one stain.
That young man worked and worked. He said that the stains were sticky, which I already knew.
Could the ants have brought the carpet glue up with them?
He was as bewildered as the exterminator about these dark spots in the carpet. Said it was the strangest thing he’s ever seen.
Kendra’s Stripper Pole Problem:
I talked to him about Kendra’s problem stripper pole, which she still has not figured out what to do about. Curious if he sees that kind of thing in homes he walks into to clean.
The guy, who looked to be in his twenties, said he’s seen at least 20 stripper poles in homes. I guess it’s a thing.
Ivy was terrified having that steam cleaner in here and is behind my chair squished against the window.
Not much scares Ivy. Vacuum cleaners, maintenance people coming in, etc. The exterminator didn’t frighten her. Ivy’s never met a stranger.
But that steam cleaner sucking at the carpet had her running scared.
I hope I can at least get through the weekend without another strange phenomenon happening. Otherwise I’m going to have to wonder if I’m cursed or something.
My Side Of The Wall:
Steve’s always saying that the strangest things happen on my side of the wall. (Our living room walls butt up against each other.)
He tends to have fairly ordinary things go wrong over at his place.
I’m hoping to relax this weekend, because my sciatica is running crazy up and down my left leg.
I keep getting down on my thick yoga mat trying to work it out. Maybe I’m making it worse; I don’t know.
But the discomfort forces you to try something. Anything to rid yourself of the pain.
Strange Things:
Kendra said she’s going to try to figure out what to do about the stripper pole this weekend. She’s too busy today. When I texted her this morning at 8:30 she was walking into a meeting.
Kendra hasn’t been flipping houses lately. She’s been taking on remodels from other people she knows or works with, like other realtors.
I asked her why they keep buying if they can’t find the time to fix the properties up to sell. Or flip or turn into an AirBnB.
She said it becomes like an addiction. Seeking out cheap properties to add to your portfolio.
Kendra has gone into some of the worst dwellings in the past. Empty houses with rats and other varmints running all over the floors and walls. She sees some awful things in this business.
But I guess that’s human nature in a way. You have your OCD people who have to have everything super clean. And then you have people who wouldn’t know clean if it bit them on the butt.
Even houses that are falling apart aren’t cheap to buy. The land is valuable. People are willing to knock houses down and build them back from the ground up.
I’m kind of glad it never worked out for me to buy a condo. With the physical shape I’ve been in in the past two years, it would have been difficult to take on.
Taking care of myself and Ivy is my main goal.
I just wanted to let you know the status of things. An update of sorts.
I was afraid you might have hurt yourself getting down on the floor like that. Try to take it easy and get some rest. I’m glad most all af the stains came out!
I was already in pretty bad shape before I got down on the carpet.
Never heard of ants under carpet, so I had to Google it…

Thanks for sending this. I just read it. I don’t walk around with food, so that isn’t it. I eat at my dining table. I’m sure there’s concrete underneath instead of wood. I felt the spots and they were not wet. I don’t know. I wonder if those ant baits would harm Ivy?
Brenda,
I cannot believe the strange things going on in your apartment. Hopefully the ants are gone and the spots are clean or as clean as they can be.
I am sorry that you are experiencing sciatic pain. Perhaps some of the suggestions here may help and offer relief.
Have a wonderful and safe weekend, maybe just relax and don’t take anything on. You are right, you have to take care of you and Ivy.
Take care my friend.
That’s about all I can handle. Getting us both fed.
If there is a different decent senior living complex in your city that you can afford, you may want to put in an application ASAP to get on a waiting list and start looking for a new place to live. This ant thing – NOT good, and it was NOT properly addressed by management. It will come back.
Both Peg and I across the way have been checking senior apartments for a good 8 years. As Greg keeps telling me, and he sees a lot of seniors in their homes, this place is the best of the lot. Instead of building more places to live for seniors in a certain money bracket, they are closing them down. I am paying $1210 a month. The next ones up start at $2500 for a studio. I can’t begin to afford that.
Your sciatica pain may be from inflammation – or it may be a result of a herniated disc pressing on the nerve. It may be good to have a doctor assess your situation so that a personalized treatment plan can be prescribed that will bring you some relief.
This article states this more eloquently and has 6 stretches to try.

Thanks for sending. I do yoga stretching, which kept my back in pretty good shape for over 20 years. But it’s harder with an ankle joint that’s as bad as mine is. However, I have been doing stretches just like these. It tends to make the pain worse. It may be pressing on the nerve because I can feel it sporadically in various places up and down my leg to my foot.
Yep, my mom has the same problem and has tried everything…PT, chiropractor, acupuncture, cortisone shot. Nothing has helped. She’s been in agony for 9 months! She never had any back problems before this and was in great shape. They did a MRI and found a herniated disk pressing on a nerve. Dunno if she’ll eventually have to have surgery or what. The pain is so bad a lot of times, that she can’t even sleep at night. Horrible.
Poor Ivy. So glad you got a prompt response from management, the pest control and the carpet steamer. Since stripper poles seem to be in demand!!! Kendra should not worry about trying to get rid of it just advertise it as a perk already in the home for the next buyer! Hope you feel better soon.
She may have to do that!
Brenda, why not see a specialist in Sciatica problems/treatment?
There are treatments to be had once the underlying problem causing the pain is discovered.
Yes, you’ve been doing all the “Right things” so far with little to no relief. Now go to a professional and let them take care of you!
I know, if it were me , i would have done this a long time ago.
I truly hope you find an answer to the problem and find a way for relief!
I would have done this a long time ago, but it’s so hard for me to get out to see a specialist. I ask Kasi to take me to my twice-a-year regular doctor appointments, but I am taking her away from work. Kendra’s job is too erratic to get a fixed appointment. If I had not been dealing with the ankle, I’d have already done something. I’m calling my doctor Monday. I just can’t get any relief no matter what I do.
I’ve had sciatic issues for years — as you know, it’s a pain you cannot ignore or find a comfortable position to be in. I use emu oil and find it gives me relief. Not just any old emu oil from the local stores but pure all natural oil which is absorbed into the body parts you use it on to bring deep relief. I order mine from http://emuoildepot.com and it’s great. It doesn’t take much at a time and I order the 16 oz and put a little in a small container for use and keep the rest in the frig. The one I have in the frig now is 5 years old and still works fine. Hopefully you could get some relief if you try it.
I ordered some yesterday as soon as I read this.
