Timing Is Everything

The Zinsser Gardz did seal the wall. It was no longer sticky after I put one coat on. I touched it after about thirty minutes. No sticky goo. I then waited three hours as specified and applied the Zinsser 123 primer. I have one coat of that up.

I had no place to scoot my couch except to the middle of the living room floor. So it is not easy to use the pole on my paint roller because I can’t back up enough to clear the couch. So I have to go slow and really watch what I’m doing.

I prepared the wall as best I could before today. But whoever painted the wall before I moved in did not do a good job. Nor did they properly sand and fill dents. It is what it is.

I can see that I’m going to have to paint the adjacent wall. So I’ll probably end up doing the whole living room. Ugh.

Boy, I’ll be glad when this is done.

The other day my sister Marietta called. We hadn’t talked in months.

She likes to text and I don’t. So we have to catch one another by phone, and kept missing each other. When we do talk it’s for hours and hours until we’re both exhausted and hungry.

It’s so nice to have a sister. I like to hear what she’s been up to. She tells me about her pets and I tell her about the pupsters.

She’s as much of a pet lover as I am. In fact she takes it upon herself to rescue pets that she thinks needs a home, and often ends up with more than she’d bargained for. I can only have two pets here where I live, but she lives in a small house.

It would be so nice if we lived close to one another. Now we’re in separate states. Maybe some day we’ll get to meet one another. I look forward to that possibility.

The long days of rain have given the patio plants a real boost. Many flowers are blooming again, which is nice this time of year.

Last year I can’t recall whether flowers were still blooming. But I normally cut back plants for winter by now, so I don’t think so.

Now I’m glad I got behind, because I’m seeing this resurgence of beautiful blooms. And life is all about little daily pleasures.

Isn’t it funny how things happen? And sometimes it seems planned?

Do you often remember your dreams? Lately my dreams have been very vivid. The other night Abi woke me up in the middle of a scary dream, and I was befuddled for a minute or two.

Abi wakes me up a lot till the wee hours, when she lets me sleep a bit more at a stretch. I just don’t know why that is. But I’ll take what I can get right now.

Charlie is my easy dog and just sleeps whenever. Sometimes he wants out during the night, and will always go out when Abi does. He’s my bright-eyed boy.

He likes to go out on the patio and sniff, sniff, sniff. It’s so funny to watch him scurry so fast along the perimeters of the patio, his nose to the ground.

Abi never does that. They’re so different. As different as my girls are.

Charlie’s bad back is acting up. He’s limping around. I found some medicine from a prior vet visit to give to him to try and help with the pain. Sometimes I have to help him up the stairs to the bed.

We are one pitiful threesome!

I hope that this time next week I have my living room back. That the wall is fixed and painted and life is normal again.

I love my bedroom, but I’d like to live in the rest of my apartment. My back is getting disagreeable half-sitting up on my bed all day. And the wall has been one long worry.

One thing I’m very thankful for is that my old bed didn’t choose to break this past week. That it broke when it did and I have a new bed.

I’d have been in a fine mess if it had broken when my living room is still out of commission.

The timing of the broken bed was just about perfect. And timing, as they say, is everything.

  1. Hi Brenda~

I'm so glad that you found a solution to your sticky wall, what a mess for you. Hopefully, you will be back in your living room, enjoying your newly painted wall.

Your little pups are so cute, they can be a pain at times, but, if you are like me, they are mostly a joy!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  2. I am so happy to hear the wall stuff worked.. Know you are exhausted , trying to fix it.. Praying it will soon be done and you can get back to your living room.
Hope you and the sweet pupsters feel better soon.

  3. I'm sad that you are not feeling well.

    Your yard always looks beautiful.

Mazi goes through phases of keeping me up every couple of hours like a newborn baby. Ugh!

Last week my dreams were super vivid, I wonder if they are trying to tell me something.

I am going to read on to see what happens with the wall saga.

  4. Soooo glad you're getting a fix on your wall. At least it will be done and all new and fresh for the winter and you'll be able to enjoy your "new" surroundings. How nice that you get to visit with your sister and I surely do hope you get to meet soon.

  5. Good luck with finishing the paint job in the living room.

And, I agree with you about sisters. Mine just retired after working her last 4 years in London so we can visit. In fact, this reminds me to call and set up a date.

  6. Brenda, I'm sure glad you can see the end of the wall saga! Even tho' there's a significant amount to do yet at least you're past the researching part. I hope it's clear sailing from here on.

We've had some rain here in lower mid-Michigan after a long stretch of hot and dry weather. My flowers, except for just a few, are pretty well dried up despite the rain. Yours are still beautiful even if it's mostly the green foliage. You sure do have a couple of green thumbs, girl!

I know you are beyond anxious to have the wall done, but do be careful and take care not to injure your ankle.

So nice that you have your sister to chat with. Having siblings is like being able to re-visit our childhood because they are the only ones who were there with us. I can't remember if your sister Marietta and you lived together or close by or if she was adopted. But at least you have reconnected. Blessings on the two of you and on your relationship.

    1. How amazing and wonderful that you and Marietta found each other! I can't imagine what that would be like to learn out of the blue that you had a sibling you never knew you had. I guess you would have many different and maybe conflicting feelings. But it seems like it's work out alright for you and Marietta so far, anyway.

  7. I had to catch up on your blog today as I had a wee bit of a heart attack 10 days ago. Doing better now. So glad to hear the wall project is coming along but pace yourself Brenda! Hugs to the dumpsters!

  8. Brenda,

Perhaps the rain is letting you rest your ankle? Whatever the timing I hope that you have everything done by next weekend too. I am sure that it is a pain to have our living area out of commission. Just take it slow and don't get hurt.

My pups who are sisters are as different as "chalk and cheese" Pisa the younger one loves to get up early and she waits for you do move one millimeter in the morning and that mess you are awake and she pounces on you to lick and to play with you. Paris her sister is more laid back and she loves to sleep in.

    Have a great week!

  9. Glad to hear the wall is (kind of) coming along. What a pain to now have to paint your entire living room. I know I can't stand when my house is out of sorts, so I feel for you. You and your sister definitely need to somehow meet in the near future. Glad you got to talk to her again. Oh yes, I sure do remember my dreams. Most of them, anyway. And they are very vivid and usually don't make much sense. Brian's always amused when I tell him my dreams. My son, Tim has very vivid dreams and remembers them, too.

  10. GLAD TO HEAR THAT THE WALL GOO WILL SOON BE A THING OF THE PAST. I KNOW IT HAS BEEN A REAL CHALLENGE, BUT YOU HAVE PERSEVERED AND THE END IS IN SIGHT. LOOKING FORWARD TO NEW PHOTOS WHEN YOU GET THINGS BACK IN PLACE, AND YOU CAN "LIVE" IN THE WHOLE APT. AGAIN.
ENJOY THE BURST OF NEW GROWTH IN THE GARDEN AND THE COOLER TEMPS.
    SNUGGLES TO THE PUPSTERS!

  11. That silly Abi! I bet she wakes you up because she is LONESOME for you!!!! Thank goodness you got the wall figured out. I too, think I would have thrown in the towel. You do need to let the Zinser people know how it helped you, and I bet they will be happy as clams to hear from you.

  12. That is so awesome that you are on your way with the wall business! I hope you can speed right through it. My dogs are becoming geriatric dogs too. It seems one of them is frequently going through something or another, but they sure are my babies!

  13. Sisters are wonderful. I try to text mine every couple of days. We talk maybe every couple of weeks. She lives 2.5 hours away. I miss her. We want to live closer when we're older.

I can't wait to see photos of your living room when you're finished painting. Just keep your eyes on the prize. It is going to be so pretty and clean when you are finished.

It has finally rained here. Yeah! I swear the grass grew over night. Now the dust should be knocked down for a few days as well as the ragweed pollen. Maybe I will go get those pansies after all.

  14. Oh my what a job this has been. Maybe you could work for Zinser as a spokeswoman for the product. I know it will be nice to get tge house back in order. I've been remodeling for six mths and things were stored in my living room. I'm now cleaning and washing everything.

  15. So glad that the wall is getting fixed. You will be happy to have your living room back I know. We are waiting for rain here today and we do need it. I dreamed I heard mowing in the middle of the night, not sure what that was about. I'm doing another round of downsizing, timing is everything as you say.

  16. Brenda-your attitude and delight in simple living speaks to all of us.Thank you for helping us all stay centered.
I also wanted to say a belated thank you for your visits to my blog White Spray Paint.
    it always brightens my day!

    Laura

  17. I do hope you get to meet your sister soon Brenda. I just have 1 sister and we skype every Monday morning and talk for 2 hours. There is just the 2 of us left out of our family except for cousins.
My husband doesn't have any family members left and never did have any brothers or sisters. He does have a stepfather who adopted him and is still alive, he is just 15 years older than us! When Simon's Mother died he married again quickly and now this woman has him in a retirement home and says he has alzismers while she lives in a new apartment! We have seen him but are only allowed to do so only at her say so. We can't make out of he has alzismers or not. Why did I go on so about this?? Sorry it is on my mind a lot. Glad you are eventually getting the wall ready to paint. I think I might have given up sooner. We seem to be having lovely warm weather here too in Canada, Dexter is enjoying it too going out on the patio and sleeping in one of the chairs, just coming in occasionally for a bite to eat. It is our thanksgiving here tomorrow. Won't be doing much, might visit the botanical gardens which is not far from where we live, looking forward to that.

    1. The week will entail painting, icing my ankle, scraping paint off of floors (I'm a terribly mess painter) and trying to get my place back together.
