TV’s Bosch legacy continues, as I just learned that TV’s Harry Bosch is coming back in a prequel. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Titus Welliver will not be reprising his role as Bosch.
The newly announced prequel for MGM+ Studios is called Bosch: Start of Watch. It focuses on a young Harry Bosch, played by Cameron Monaghan (Gotham).

The new series is produced by Fabel Entertainment, with Bosch: Legacy creator Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony. Michael Connolly, author of the Bosch novels, is an executive producer.
The series is set in 1991 Los Angeles. Harry Bosch is a 26-year-old rookie cop working in a city full of racial tension and gang violence. It is about the beginning of his career, not his retirement.
The Start of Watch series is set one year before Michael Connelly’s Bosch novels were published. That first book was called “The Black Echo.” The series can focus on the early Bosch books that Connelly wrote.
Omari Hardwick plays his training officer, Eli Bridges. The show will explore the earlier story of the detective in the early 1990s

Bosch: Legacy:
Bosch: Legacy was a spin-off of Bosch, but the sequel came to a close after three seasons in April 2025. Titus Welliver continued to play Bosch, and the show was about his life after leaving the LAPD.
Amazon did not offer a reason for the cancellation, but it might be due to escalating production costs.
The first series in the Bosch franchise is Bosch, followed by Bosch: Legacy, and the spinoff Ballard, starring Maggie Q. Ballard has been renewed for Season 2 on Prime Video. And now, Start of Watch will continue the Harry Bosch story.
The original Bosch series, starring Titus Welliver, ran for seven seasons.

Ballard:
Ballard was announced in 2023, based on Michael Connelly’s books with the Detective Renee Ballard character. This character has appeared in Connelly’s novels for years alongside Harry Bosch.
Ballard appeared in several editions, sometimes teaming up with Bosch in Connelly’s books, Dark Sacred Night (2018), The Night Fire (2019), The Dark Hours (2021), Desert Star (2022), and The Waiting (2024).
Detective Renee Ballard leads the Los Angeles Police Department’s cold case unit, helping to solve old homicides.
In Ballard’s first season, the storyline centers on a string of murders that lead Renee Ballard to uncover a conspiracy.
Bosch & Ballard Solve the Case of Daisy Clayton:
Harry Bosch and Renée Ballard cross over, with their connection beginning in the Bosch: Legacy season 3 finale and continuing in the new Ballard series.
Ballard is a direct spinoff of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. Harry Bosch makes guest appearances on Ballard as a trusted, retired ally. Bosch and Ballard solve the Daisy Clayton murder case.
Daisy Clayton is the murdered daughter of Elizabeth Clayton, a woman Harry Bosch helped. Bosch became personally invested in solving the murder of Daisy back when he was still on the force. He had promised Elizabeth that he’d investigate 15-year-old Daisy’s murder.
Titus Welliver as Bosch:
The Bosch series is a classic. I’ve watched all seven seasons twice and may, in fact, watch it a third time.
Bosch is a crime drama series based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels about LAPD detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch. The show follows Bosch, a homicide detective working in Los Angeles. It also explores Bosch’s haunted past as a foster child and war veteran.
Overall, Bosch stands out for its slow-burning tension, authenticity, and emotional depth. It offers a noir-style look at justice, corruption, and the human side of police work.

I’m so far behind on the Bosch series but it’s still on my list. Now that I’ve finished the Reacher books, I shall move onto this series to read. I love crime novels so I’m always looking for a new character to binge read.
I don’t think any series can rival Bosch! I loved it so much and have also watched at least twice. I also did love Bosch:Legacy and sad it was only the 2 seasons. I was so bummed. I liked Ballard, but not as much. She’s a good character, and I think season 1 started out kind of slow, but towards the end got better. Now looking forward to season 2. I’m not so sure about watching the prequel. The person who made all the Bosch shows was Titus! No one can replace him! He’s a very unique person and character. I love his steely demeanor. I haven’t read any of the books, as now, I have Titus Welliver in my mind and I don’t think any book character can compete with him! Marilyn
That’s what Greg said: No one can take Titus Welliver’s place.
