How I Styled It #2
In How I Styled It #2, this is a project I put together after purchasing items at the Animal Rescue thrift store. I brought home a two-tiered tray and an odd-numbered amount of brown transferware.
I ordered wood balls from Amazon to add feet to the two-tiered tray. Then I hot-glued three of them onto the bottom of the tray. Lastly I stained the wood.
I ordered a sander to prepare the wood for staining. Later I will add a finish to protect the wood.
I put the two-tiered tray in a corner of my kitchen against bread boards and added the brown transferware.
The stain job isn’t the best. But hopefully I will get better as I take on more staining projects.
I knew as soon as I saw the transferware in the thrift store I knew that I wanted those pieces. There are seven saucers and four cups. That it was an odd-numbered amount of transferware did not really bother me.
Then my eye landed on the unfinished two-tiered tray in another area of the thrift store. I instantly knew that I wanted to pair the transferware with the tray in some capacity.
I haven’t begun work on my black folding tray project yet. I’ve ordered green paint and will begin sanding the folding tray soon.
Working With Rub-On Transfers:
If things turn out as planned, I want to add a rub-on transfer to the top of the tray. I’ll let you know when I begin work on it.
I do have transfers I ordered about a year ago, but they are labels. And I’d really like to do a floral transfer on the tray after I get it painted.
In my first How I Styled It #1, I purchased a brown basket and a coffee pitcher to add to my fireplace mantel.
Have you ever worked with rub-on transfers before?
Oh I love the tiered tray and the cups and saucers on it. They fit perfectly and are just the right color. I think it was meant to be! I like the wooden balls you added for the feet too. I agree, this is a fun series! I have never tried using the rub on transfers. Can’t wait to see your trays when you’re finished with them.
Very cute idea!! Blue is my color…but I admire other colors in other folks’ homes, like yours!!
I love brown transferware. I haven’t found any pieces to buy, as yet.
Happy Easter!
Looks very cute…I have not used the rub on transfers…but watch videos that show people using them…they make it look easy..Jamiray Vintage uses them and sell them…their videos are so fun to watch..you would enjoy them.. happy hunting for more stuff💕
Oh the tiered tray looks so much better now. Cute idea to add the wooden balls on there too. And the transferware is so pretty. It all looks so good together.
Clever project!!! I like the wood ball feet. Creative!!
The transferware looks so pretty on the tiered stand! I think you did a good job with the staining (I’ve never done that) and I love how you glued the ball “feet” to the bottom. That really added a lot of charm.
I love the project Brenda. You always have great ideas. Love the display ladder too!
I like the idea of using a tiered tray to contain cups and saucers so much I’m going to copy it. A wooden tray may be hard to find. Maybe a china tray will work as well?
Nice work,Brenda! Love the ball feet! The transferware is so pretty.love the quiet beauty.
I really like the look, especially the glued on balls. Great job!
I like how the stain color brings out the pattern on the china. The cutting boards are the nice backdrop. Perfect to grab for a bit of ice cream or a cup of soup. Looking forward to the table and seeing how the transfer works out. This is a fun series.
I really like the brown and white cups and plates!
I have not used tranferware and will be interested in seeing how you do it. The only transfers I have used is for old fashioned embroidery work.
