A Girl Within A Girl Within A Girl:

Amazon

In the novel A Girl Within A Girl Within A Girl, Maya makes breakfast for her two sons on an ordinary day in an upscale Atlanta suburb. Her husband drops a red-and-blue striped envelope on the counter and asks a devastating question: Who is Sunny?

A girl takes on a series of identities to survive, shrouding herself in layers of secrets, until years later, when she is forced to reckon with her past.

Maya is reeling back to her childhood in Guyanaโ€•when Sunny was her only name. Unbeknownst to her husband, Maya is not who she claims to be. The letter, from her long-lost sister Roshi, now threatens to expose her true identity and shatter the seemingly perfect existence Maya worked so hard to build.

As she frantically weighs the impact of the truth on her future, Maya relives the details of her childhood journey to America from Guyanaโ€“and the traumatic events that forced her to leave her past behind. Through the eyes of Mayaโ€™s innocent and scared younger self, we discover the power of hope, empathy, and the possibility of beginning again.

First Lie Wins:

Amazon

In the book First Lie Wins, Evie Porter has everything a nice Southern girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence, and a tight group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesnโ€™t exist.

The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once sheโ€™s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and its people. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.

Evie isnโ€™t privy to Mr. Smithโ€™s real identity, but she knows this job isn’t like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and sheโ€™s envisioning a different life for herself. But Evie canโ€™t make any mistakesโ€”especially after what happened last time.

Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while ensuring a future in front of her. The stakes couldn’t be higherโ€”but then, Evie has always liked a challenge. . . .

A Calamity Of Souls:

Amazon

In A Calamity Of Souls, Jack Lee is a white lawyer from Freeman County, Virginia, who has never done anything to push back against racismโ€”until he decides to represent Jerome Washington, a Black man charged with brutally killing an elderly wealthy white couple. Doubting his decision, Lee fears that his legal skills may not be enough to prevail when the odds are stacked against him and his client. He quickly finds himself out of his depth when he realizes that what’s at stake is far greater than the outcome of a murder trial.ย  โ€ฏ

Desiree DuBose is a Black lawyer from Chicago who has devoted her life to furthering the causes of justice and equality for all. She enters a fractious and unwieldy partnership with Lee in a legal battle against the best prosecutor in the Commonwealth. Yet DuBose is also aware that powerful outside forces are at work to blunt the victories achieved by the Civil Rights era.โ€ฏโ€ฏ โ€ฏ

Lee and DuBose could not be more dissimilar. Neither one can stop the prosecutionโ€™s deliberate march towards a guilty verdict and the electric chair. ย But together, the pair fight for what once seemed impossible: a chance for a fair trial and true justice.ย

Over a decade in the making, A Calamity of Souls breathes richly imagined and detailed life into a bygone era, taking the reader through a world that will seem both foreign and familiar.

Anything by David Baldacci is good. I just finished Calamity of Souls. Lee Child is also a keep u reading author. Love your sunroom. The picture on the wall with the blue is stunning.

  3. I love that artist’s Swedish home. In fact, I spent a lot of time looking around at other homes from the main website (My Scandinavian Home) and am now following that page on IG. I’ve always loved Scandinavian design.

Loved the ideas for reading nooks, too. My favorites are the ones with a comfy chair, surrounded by books and plants. My idea of heaven. Bonus if you have a kitty curled up with you!

Those honey mustard potatoes look delish. I pinned the recipe.

    Thanks for sharing!
