In a historical home you expect to see lots of classic original woodwork . Perhaps what you don’t expect is the modern touches added during the renovation.
But that’s what you will see on this home tour.
Amanda Kessel and her husband found this home while taking a walk through a St. Paul, Minnesota neighborhood.
It was a fixer-upper in every sense of the word. They knew there would have to be lots of renovating and time spent making this house their home.
On the coffee table is a wicker tray with books. A pretty glass box holds bohemian-style beads and a colorful floral vase holds white hydrangeas.
They renovated this historic home to make it brighter and lighter, but they chose not to paint over the wood accents.
They loved this historic neighborhood where they walked their baby and dog down the tree-lined streets.
Neighbors were friendly and called out to them from their front porches as they walked past.
This home highlights its history with the homeowners’ devoted care while remodeling.
In the above photo the dining furniture is classic and traditional. The chairs are upholstered with gray fabric seats.
Amanda’s design style is mostly traditional. She likes things that are classic and enduring. And that’s what this house is to her.
A blue wingback chair in the living room beckons you to take a seat and rest awhile. A modern standing lamp and side table stand in contrast to the more traditional style of the chair.
The lantern-style lights hanging above the island make the space feel elegant.
The appliances are stainless steel. And the cabinets are white with silver drawer pulls, while the countertop is a contrast in black.
The mudroom has black built-in cubbies and drawers made of wood. The floor is a black and white pattern with a touch of gray.
This bathroom has a beautiful claw-foot tub with silver feet. There are narrow shelves on the wall for decor and such.
The window covering is a beige wicker roll-up style shade.
The vanity is white, and gray and white floral wallpaper grace the walls. This wallpaper evokes a feeling of times past.
There is a small built-in dressing table with a mirror and black light sconces. Underneath is a stool upholstered in gray with orange piping.
