I just got home this morning from grocery shopping. Of course, I fed Ivy and changed her water first.

Ivy prefers drinking from the bathtub spigot. But I always make sure she has fresh water in a bowl anyway.

Red & White Checked Curtain Tie:

This morning, as almost every morning, I found the red-and-white-checked curtain tie on the floor. In other words, she’d dragged one of the two out of her toy box sometime during the night.

I just can’t figure out what she does with that thing. But she’s been doing it since the first night she got here in October 2018.

She unearthed it from somewhere in one of my closets. And it’s been one of her favorite things to play with and carry around in her mouth ever since.

The book "Small Great Things" by Jodi Picoult on a table

I finished reading “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult last night. It was a hell of a book. You might want to check it out. Jodi Picoult writes phenomenal books. I don’t know how she comes up with so many diverse stories.

Lady in Red/McDonald’s Iced Coffee:

Now I’ll tell you about my reference to”The Lady In Red.”

After I bought groceries, I decided to drive down the road to McDonald’s and get a caramel iced coffee. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing something great. I’m not one to splurge at Starbucks. I’d feel guilty drinking a beverage that costs that much.

It doesn’t cost what those fancy coffees cost. It’s under $2. I treat myself to it once in a while when I’m out, especially after grocery shopping in the morning. When it’s hot, that iced coffee really hits the spot.

I placed my order and drove up to pay the cashier. She noticed my red T-shirt and told me red was her favorite color. I said: “Mine too!”

McDonald’s Cashier Sings Lady In Red To Me At The Drive-thru Window:

Then she started belting out the song “The Lady In Red” by British-Irish singer-songwriter Chris De Burgh from the eighties.

Hey, she was pretty darned good, too! She had a great voice.

“The Lady in Red” is a 1986 romantic ballad by British-Irish singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh. It was famously inspired by the moment he first saw his wife, Diane, in a crowded nightclub. It became one of the most played songs of that year.

The song, which features the lyrics “The lady in red is dancing with me (cheek to cheek),” was a massive international hit, reaching number one in several countries.

The song goes something like this…

I never will forget the way you look tonight,
The lady in red, the lady in red.

What does the term lady in red mean? Lady in Red (ghost) refers to a type of female ghost attributed to a sex worker or jilted lover.

  1. Now there’s something that doesn’t happen everyday – being serenaded at McDonald’s!

I had a high school science teacher sing it to me softly as he passed by my desk! I was wearing a very bright red dress. So embarrassed was I. At that time did I not know the song. Today it is very special to me!!!!!

How funny! A serenade at McDonald’s. Life is full of quirkyness if you take time to notice.

I just finished reading Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature for the book you recommended. I was instantly hooked. So I ordered myself a paperback copy. Thank you.

  5. To bad u didn’t think to quickly put it on video bc u could replay it when u felt down!
That song brings back bad memories to me! Lol

I’ve read a few of Jodi Picoult’s books – I’ll have to check this one out.

How sweet that the drive thru lady sang to you! That would make my day. I’ll have to pass on the coffee though – first of all, I don’t like any flavorings in my coffee nor do I like caramel, and secondly, my food sensitivities with digestive issues now having me not being able to handle coffee anymore! I have to stick to green tea.

  7. Jenny Young says:

Oh that singing would have made my day! How hilarious & sweet.

You should set up a camera on on Ivy. That would probably bring some fun laughs too.

  8. Beverley L. says:

Can you do us a favor and stay up one night and spy on Ivy? Also please make a video. You can fix the lighting afterwards. All those who would like Brenda to do this, please say “Aye.” Ok, ok…I’m just kidding but I sure would like to know. Guess it will remain an unsolved mistery.

  9. A type of ghost related to a prostitute or jilted lover? Hmmm, sounds like a stereotype, like Julia Roberts looking drop-dead gorgeous in the red gown she wore to the opera in “Pretty Woman.” But when I was a working woman, red power suits were what I and other women often donned when we were going to “war.” When you saw me walking down the hallway or on the elevator in a red suit, you knew somebody would be in for it, usually some male who thought a female attorney would be a pushover. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, is very fond of red.

  10. That Ivy Lou keeps you on your toes! LOL
Oh, I hope being serenaded by the McDonald’s cashier put a huge smile on your smile that will last the entire day. What a delightful treat.
And, by the way, the next time I’m out and about (to pick up groceries) I’m going to make it a point to stop by McDonald’s to pick up a caramel iced coffee. Sounds very yummy!

  11. Every time I hear the song Lady in Red, I think about my stepdaughter. As a teen, that was her favorite song and she would play it over and over all day, until I was ready to pull my hair out.
She passed away last year at age 41 from COVID.
Now that song makes me cry.
