There are packing boxes all over the place. Moving is not fun, but it will be worth it. It’s going to be exciting, this new adventure. I’m as excited as a child at Christmastime.

There will be many windows for Ivy to patrol the yard critters, which is probably her favorite form of entertainment.

Kendra had a cement walkway laid from the driveway to the porch steps. Teri, my wonderful friend and reader who lives in a nearby town, was planning to go with me to the house yesterday. But the cement wasn’t dry. So we’re planning on going today.

Teri is the lovely person who packed my old apartment up, and then came here and unpacked everything. She was phenomenal and I was so grateful. It was before my ankle surgery and I was in a lot of pain. Teri has offered her help for this move. This woman is so kind and generous.

I’ve got the second bedroom and most of the dining room packed. Today I should be able to finish packing the items that are in the dining room, and then move on to the living room.

Lunch With Teri:

Teri and I are going out to lunch today somewhere along the infamous Route 66, and then I’m taking her to see the house. I need to do some measurements.

Kendra said the painter went by the house and is working up a bid up for her this week. Painting the house exterior has been on Kendra’s list for some time. But it got pushed to the back burner because more important expenditures kept coming up with her properties.

Looking At Kitchen Cabinet Hardware:

I’m having fun looking at kitchen cabinet hardware online. I don’t know when I’ll get around to it, but I want to replace the drawer pulls and knobs with something that looks more old-fashioned.

Here are some of the ones I’ve been looking at on Amazon. I might go with glass because the house doorknobs are glass. And I also looked on Etsy. There are some real beauties on Etsy that aren’t mass produced. So I’m checking those shops out as well.

What I’m Watching & Reading:

I seem to drift back to BritBox when I’m looking for something new to watch at night. Lately I will look on Netflix and Prime, but haven’t found anything I’m interested in watching. If you know of a good drama series, let me know. I might not have watched it.

Now I’m re-watching DCI Banks. I’ve seen it before, but I’ve forgotten most of the things that happen in the series.

The Promise:

Amazon

I just finished reading Teresa Driscoll’s book “The Promise.” When I got to the end of the book it sounded familiar all of a sudden. So I guess at some point in time I’d already read it.

Last night I began reading Freida McFadden’s book, “Do You Remember?” Kasi and I both like her books.

This book is about a woman named Tess who has been in a car accident and suffered brain injuries. She forgets the present and sometimes wakes up and thinks it’s years ago. Back when she was engaged to another man.

Now it seems she is married to a man she doesn’t remember marrying. He’s a stranger to her. She has a letter in her own handwriting explaining her current life with the brain injury. It explains that she is to trust those around her, that they only want what’s best for her.

Then she receives a text message that says: “Donโ€™t trust the man who calls himself your husband.”

This author is also a practicing physician specializing in brain injuries. So I figure the brain injuries detailed in this book are probably pretty accurate, since she is a doctor.

And A Photo Of Ivy:

And a photo of Ivy sleeping. She looks so content and peaceful. Her world is about to be turned upside down and all her surroundings will be different. I hope she weathers it without too much anxiety.

  1. Ivy seems pretty resilient. She’ll have fun once she’s there. I love those knobs. I was thinking of doing that with my oak cabinets that I don’t want to paint, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to add knobs when there aren’t any. It would give them some charm. I love those and think they would look great on those cabinets of Mamie’s. How nice to have a cement sidewalk there. Any news on the color of the house or is it going to be the same?

    1. It won’t be the same color. There were about four different colors of paint in rectangles of about a foot long painted on the front. Guess Kendra put them there to think about.

  2. I, too, was thinking about Teri recently and wondering if sheโ€™d be available to help you again with this move, and Iโ€™m so glad to hear she is. Thank you, Teri! You are an angel! And I, too, am on team glass knobs, lol!

    1. I’m moving fairly quickly packing, even if I only get one or two large boxes packed a day.

  3. whenever my kitties have to go through something stressful, like a trip to the vet or a move, I use plenty of nature’s miracle feline calming spray. it really works well.

    1. Good idea. Will have to look into ordering some.

  4. You sound so excited, and that’s wonderful! ๐Ÿ˜Š
You also sound very pragmatic and realistic.
Congratulations on your new old home!!! May you and Ivy know much joy, peace, happiness, and contentment in your new home. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ธ
Many thanks to Kendra and Teri for lending you a hand and keeping your happiness and safety in mind.
So looking forward to photos as you move-in and make Mamie a home for you & Ivy!
Stay safe & well, Brenda dear.

    1. Yes, I’m pragmatic to a fault.

  5. I was just thinking about Teri the other day, wondering if she will be able to help. What a blessing she is!

  6. Brenda, getting excited for you.. We all need a Teri in our lives, what a great friend. Another reader mentioned A Discovery of Witches, terrific series, the books by Deborah Harkness , which the series is based on, are amazing.. If you can, read the books….glass knobs are the best, when i moved into my modern condo I switched out all the door knobs to glass, what a difference. They will only enhance Maimie’s cozy look .. Ivy will be fine, she’s with you and will love all the new views and smells. Wishing you a peaceful and easy move…

    1. I haven’t heard of it. Will check it out.

Brenda, I am so excited for you and your move to Mamie. This house looks perfect for youโ€ฆI would love it too. Netflix drama series: A Discovery of Witchesโ€ฆI loved this series from the very first minute. It is not a horror show, but a show about everyday people who are special. It is a love story and a story about discrimination and redemption. It is an English production and starts out at Oxford University and the Baudlein (sp?) Library.

    1. Thanks! I’ll check it out. Haven’t heard of it.

    2. Charlotte, it’s Bodleian. Years ago my husband was privileged to do some of his doctoral work at Oxford, which meant he spent many hours in the Bodleian. It’s a beautiful, awe inspiring place to study.

      1. Charlotte Hutcheson says:

Thanksโ€ฆI knew I wasnโ€™t spelling it correctly. We visited Oxford in December of 2000 along with 125 high school band kids from Texas. Yikes!

      2. I had to look the word up. But now I understand.

  8. Teri crossed my mind recently and I wondered if she’d be able to help you. Way to go Teri!!!
The glass knobs really brought up some memories for me. My grandmother had glass knobs on doors that led to the front of her home. In the hallway was a recessed bookcase that had two small glass knobs on the framed glass doors. Really cute.
Brenda, when are you actually moving into the house?
Enjoy packing but please don’t overdo it. Take some short breaks.

  9. Oh… those glass knobs are the frosting on the cake so to speak. I have an ancient wardrobe dresser that was mine since I was 6 years old. Anyway, I ended up painting it years later,(now I wish I hadn’t) and put new knobs on the five drawers and the left side door. They are the same as the glass knobs in your picture. I still have that dresser, and I still love those knobs. I can’t wait to see yours. Everything you’re doing is just getting more exciting. How awesome that you will have the cement walkway before you move in. Kendra is surely an angel in disguise. And how thankful for Teri also. It just seems like things are all falling into place for you and Ivy. You both deserve this, a safe and awesome place to call home. Soon…coming soon…Yea!!!!!!!

    1. I agree with all you said. Things are falling into place now.

  10. Oh Brenda, I think that the glass hardware on the kitchen cabinets would be beautiful. I’m so happy for you and sweet Ivy!!

    1. I need to look closer at the knobs and pulls that are already on there when I’m there.

  11. This is my first time to comment on your blog. I want to say that I am happy for you and Ivy on your move. How exciting! Donโ€™t worry about Ivy. She will do just fine. She will love the extra rooms and windows. My daughter moved from a small apartment to house with her 2 cats and they great. They love all the rooms to explore. I am from Oklahoma and have family in Tulsa. Tulsa is a beautiful town.

    1. When I first brought Ivy home 6 years ago, she was right at home. Remember she put dead crickets in my house shoes during the night!

  12. Cat nip for Ivy sounds like a wise thing to keep her calm. So glad that Teri will be able to help you with this latest move. When I moved in 2014 from a large house to a smaller house preparing for retirement, it was a major headache. I wouldn’t have been able to make it without the aid of friends plus the movers who did all the heavy lifting and I don’t have a wonky painful ankle or bad arthritis in my hands like you have to deal with. The images of the glass hardware for the kitchen that you’ve been eyeing are just gorgeous. When I think of shows like “Restored” I tend to think of salvage centers in run down looking buildings loaded with all kinds of stuff recovered from old homes and buildings that were being remodeled and/or torn down – piled up here and there and everywhere rather helter-skelter, and spending hours picking through dusty piles of this and that to find a true treasure that will be just perfect for what you have in mind. Does Tulsa have a ReStore? They’re incredible! Mamie will be a beautiful home for you and Ivy. And maybe as you unpack you will find some of those boxes that have been stuffed away in your storage closets and the storage area on your patio and find some things all over again that have been packed away for years. I worry about you over-doing and not pacing yourself. You’re going to be able to show us the ideas you have, how you ponder over decorative decisions and the progress that is made for at least the next few years. Cozy Little House is going to be very busy but please keep your health in mind first and foremost.

    1. I’m pacing myself. We have a ReStore, and I went to it once when I first moved to Tulsa. I’ve been wanting to go back. Just need to get it on the schedule at some point.

  13. What a wonderful friend you have to help you with your move!
The glass knobs and pulls are wonderful. I would pick those also.
Hope you and your friend have a wonderful, fun day of it!

    1. I just think they would fit the period of the house.

  14. If you have Netflix watch season 3 of the Lincoln Lawyer

    1. I did watch the first season, and maybe the second. I can’t recall. But I definitely haven’t watched the third season.

  15. Briana from Texas says:

I am so glad that everything is going well for you and that you are looking forward to this new chapter. You are blessed to have a friend like Teri.

    1. She is a reader who became a friend offline.

  16. Annette Tracy says:

Maybe have some catnip on hand for Ivy. It might help Glad Terri is going to help you settle in again. She sounds like such a great lady.

    1. I hope she’ll help me figure out what to put where!
