Today in Sunday Snippets 2.23.25…
We still have snow on the ground. It’s finally supposed to warm up today, and hopefully, it will melt. I haven’t been out in several weeks. I’m scared of falling, so I stay off the ice.
The girls brought pizza yesterday. Riley was home for the weekend, and Marley and he were both here. Can you believe that boy is graduating in May?
He plans to take a year off and attend law school in Dallas. We’re all hoping he changes his mind and stays in Oklahoma.

The kittens are running through the house and chasing one another. They will lay together and sleep and then have little dustups, which is the nature of kittens this age.

Simon has a couple of new habits I’m trying to break him of. He likes to chew on the lampshade in my bedroom and the plumbing behind the toilet down at the floor level. Heaven knows why.
That boy has tremendous energy and goes chirping through the house, chasing and being chased by Daisy.
Do you remember the red and white gingham curtain ties that Ivy has always been so fond of playing with? When Simon plays with them, it tends to drive him a little batty.
He flips over and jumps up in the air with the curtain tie as though it’s catnip. I don’t know what it is about that curtain tie, but watching him with his acrobatics is fun.
A flock of blackbirds (at least their color was black) just swooped down all at once, and I could see them light on my porch. The cats got excited.
What I’m Watching:

I’m still rewatching the sixth and last season of Line of Duty, which is about a fictional anti-corruption police unit called Unit AC-12. This truly is an unforgettable and well-developed series.
If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to find out if it is streaming on one of your channels. You can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
When asked recently, Martin Compston, who plays Steve Arnott, said there are no current plans for a seventh season. But I would surely love to see that happen.
Fans of Jed Mercurio‘s hit BBC show have made it clear they want to see more from AC-12 following the conclusion of the sixth season, which aired in 2021.

An interesting note: Martin Compston lives between Scotland and, of all places, Las Vegas with his wife and son.
He got into show business when a teacher pulled him aside in the corridor of St. Columba’s High School in Scotland. She told him that a film crew was looking for kids to star in a film. And his career took off.
Before making it big in the world of acting, Martin was a professional footballer, playing for Aberdeen at the youth level.
What I’m Reading:

I’m reading One September Morning by Rosalind Noonan. It’s an older book, published in 2009, that I found at the thrift store.
This military story begins when Abby Fitzgerald sees two soldiers approaching her front door. She knows this familiar military tradition. They will tell her that her husband has been killed in Iraq. John gave up his star NFL running back career to serve after 9/11.
Her inlaws, an army family, arrange a lavish funeral that Abby knows John would not want. His parents plan to have him buried in Arlington National Cemetery. But she knows John wanted to be cremated.
John had grown to hate the war, and suddenly, the complex man she married was portrayed as a war hero. Abby knows he would not want this either.
A few people know that John was killed by one of his own, but the army wants that news suppressed.
I enjoy reading novels about military families and the wives who must pack up and move to new homes whenever the military tells them to. The wives of these soldiers stationed together tend to have close relationships and work together while their husbands are gone.
I hope you enjoyed the news snippets about this past week.

I love seeing that the new kitties are doing well. How is Ivy adjusting to them? Do they get along? If you’ve posted this, I’m sorry I’ve missed it.
Do you discipline your cats so they know what isnโt acceptable and what is?
Oh my goodness, I can picture in my mind, the kitten doing backflips and acrobatics, lol! I just love hearing about them being so silly. I wonder what Ivy must think of them. Itโs hard to believe your grandson will be graduating soon. It seems like yesterday when he went off to college! Itโs crazy how fast time flies by. Thatโs wonderful that he wants to go to law school, wherever he ends up going. You guys must be so proud of him! IโM proud of him, lol! The tv show youโre watching sounds interesting. Youโve mentioned it in the past, and I keep thinking I need to watch it. Iโm glad itโs on Amazon, because I have that. I donโt have the British tv to watch all of those shows, but Iโd watch Vera if I did, based on how much you liked it. Hopefully your snow will melt soon. Iโm sure youโre tired of it. Then you can go plant shopping!! Yay!!
I think the black birds are starlings. I have a flock that visits my backyard every morning when I throw out various nuts and almonds (in shell and shelled) as well as peanuts (in shell and shelled) for the squirrels and the birds who go for the peanuts. A whole flock of starlings will land and gobble up all of the shelled peanuts in about 20 seconds!
Brenda~
Just a thought …Perhaps the reason for Simon’s “chewing” on the water pipe into the toilet tank could be condensation ?
I’ll check.
always love seeing the kitties and Ivy.
Here in Ontario Canada we have a lot of snow still hanging around. We can easily move the snow on our drive with the snow blower but then when the snow plow has been around and left a 4 ft pile of it at the bottom of the drive it is so hard to move and it is filled with chunks of ice! I don’t see what else they can do though but I can’t imagine everyone being able to move it.
Looking forward to spring and getting our garden in shape again. You have a lovely house Brenda and have decorated it beautifully.
It’s pretty the first day, then messy.
The picture in the beginning of this post of the kitties on the quilt is fabulous. They sound like they never stop!
Hoping for some warmer weather for you soon!
Once they’re awake, they sit and look out the window at the birds, chase one another, and have little tussles.
Sounds like my week, snuggled inside from the snow, ice and cold. The kittens are getting big. I am waiting for Ivy to join the shenanigans. Our only daughter and our 2 grandchildren are a gold star family. It has been a rough life for them moving around with the military. Thankfully my son in laws service was only state side. The boys got a real education living in different parts of the country and drove cross country from Washington state to Virginia once. You are right about the wives bonding together growing into family. Our daughter and the boys have friends from all over the country. God bless all those who are serving and their families.
Yes, bless them for serving.
