This week in Sunday Snippets 10.12.25…

Doesn’t the fall graphic above make you yearn for fall weather? The leaves haven’t begun to fall here yet, not that I’ve seen anyway. We still have hot weather with the air conditioning on.

I haven’t been out much this past week. And I haven’t seen Rhonda for three weeks because she’s been really sick with a virus. I talked to her on Friday, and hopefully she’s on the road to recovery.

I saw Kendra briefly when I stopped at one of her rentals she’s fixing up after the longtime renters finally moved out. She tore out the wall between the kitchen and dining room, added another bathroom, and made space for a laundry room by enclosing the back porch.

Next, she has to tear down the garage and rebuild it. She also had the old electrical system updated with a new fuse box.

I only stayed long enough to see the progress they’d made, as I was on my way somewhere. I’ll be excited to see the final renovation. I’ve seen her new design ideas for the kitchen renovation, and it will be very nice. There was a galley kitchen before. Now it will be open in an L-shape.

What I’m Watching:

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets tells the story of a team of wildly talented high school girls’ soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness.

The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they have attempted to piece back together.

I’m watching this series on Netflix, but other streaming channels are currently showing it.

What I’m Reading:

The Shining

Amazon

The Shining, a gothic horror novel by Stephen King, was first published in 1977. Eclipsed perhaps only by its 1980 film adaptation, the book is one of the most popular and enduring horror stories of all time. A sequel, titled Doctor Sleep, was published in 2013 and adapted into a film in 2019.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • ONE OF TIME’S 100 BEST MYSTERY AND THRILLER BOOKS OF ALL TIME • In this masterpiece of modern American horror that inspired Stanley Kubrick’s classic film, Jack Torrance takes a job as the caretaker of the remote Overlook Hotel. As the brutal winter sets in, the hotel’s dark secrets begin to unravel.

Jack Torrance’s new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he’ll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing.

But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote… and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Quote From The Shining:

“Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in. Not by the hair of your chinny-chin-chin? Well then, I’ll huff and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”

Amazon

I’ve never read the second book, Doctor Sleep, so I’m looking forward to finding out the rest of the storyline. In that book, Danny Torrance is all grown up.

  1. Love the graphics! It is finally cooling off, the leaves are falling and we are only getting breezes and showers from the Nor’Ester. I loved Ozark and should watch it again! Can you imagine your life changing so dramatically on one bad business decision? Exciting to hear about your daughter’s building a house and flipping a house. Hope you and Rhonda are able to go on more adventures when she is feeling better. Have a great week everyone and stay safe.

    1. It is still hot here. Waiting for fall weather!

  2. I love the Fall graphic! It’s cozy and perfect looking! I love a beautifully decorated porch. I’m sorry to hear Rhonda is sick. I hope she feels better soon. I’m sure you miss your weekly get togethers. Will Kendra let you show us some pics of her renovations? Before and after pics would be awesome. Will the house still have some outside space, since she’s closing a porch in? Hopefully you’ll get some pretty Fall colors yourself. I’d love to see that.

    1. I’ve told Kendra to take photos so I can show you. Also, Kasi is building a lake house at Lake Eufaula, so I’ll be showing you that too. That fall graphic was purchased on Etsy.

  3. I absolutely LOVE those graphics! The home is adorable. This week should be in the low 80’s. Pretty good for AZ!

    1. I’ve spent the entire morning on Etsy trying to choose more graphics.

The fall graphic is beautiful. Reminds me of growing up in Michigan and the beautiful fall weather.

Kendra has certainly built a wonderful career for herself. Amazing what she takes on.

I’ve been meaning to tell you I just finished Adolesence and still pondering over that. That actor that played Jamie was amazing. I also watched Jason Bateman’s movie and didn’t find it as good as I had hoped it would be. I can’t hear his voice without thinking of him in Ozark. Loved him in that. Enjoy your fall weather and your cozy home. 🎃

    1. I loved Bateman in Ozark, too. That kid who played Jamie was fantastic in Adolescence! I didn’t know anything about incels till I watched it.

  5. The Fall graphic is very comforting. Here in Pa we are having cool Autumn weather. This past Thursday morning it was 33 degrees. Have switched over to flannel sheets. My Husky Kassie likes spending all day on the porch. I believe she would stay out there all night if I didn’t bring her in. Happy almost Fall weather to you Brenda.
