  1. I’ve done a bee and butterfly water feature in my butterfly garden before, but simply a shallow dish (I used a large plastic plant saucer) filled with water and large rocks for the butterflies and bees to perch on. Didn’t need to put overripe fruit in it, since the bees and butterflies are already attracted to the flowers in that garden.

I’m currently reading The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. It’s 715 pages long and I’m only on page 100, so we’ll see how long it takes me to get through this one. It’s fabulous, so far. If you like drawn out sagas from different time periods where it’s then all drawn together, then you’d like this one.

We just finished Season 2 of Somebody Somewhere (which is the last season, so far) and we are both in withdrawal! What a fantastic show – such realistic characters and real-life drama; makes you laugh and cry. Heads up to anyone who might want to watch it – there’s quite a bit of profanity and sexual innuendos. And now we’re almost done watching The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, which I also highly recommend. Again, lots of profanity (if that bothers anyone), but it goes with the series.

  2. I did not know about Bee Puddlers either. I’m interested and intrigued. Your garden and entire outdoor space is wonderful, Brenda. It’s really nice that you’re enjoying it so much.
I’m not watching much TV lately. Nor am I reading. In fact the past week, almost two weeks I’ve been feeling a bit Ho Hum. It’s not a big deal because I feel certain ‘this, too, shall pass’.
    Have a tremendous day.

  3. I didn’t know about Bee puddlers. Now I’d like to make one!
I’m also getting ready to plant Zinnia seeds…I may love them as much as you do—especially to give away in bouquets—because they’re so stunning and long-lasting.

I’d really like to know where you get your seeds, please. I’ve usually bought them from big- box stores, but I bet you have a much better source.
    Thanks so much! 😊

P.S.—I want to help you make money, and I believe the Bee Puddler post by itself would probably be a great DIY to post.
—Since I’ve never seen anything about it before, a lot of other people probably haven’t, either.
    Just a thought.

  4. Brenda, your garden is gorgeous…I love the repurposed water feature turned into a planter. I only have a deck attached to my condo, but spent the morning, summerizing it…brought up the pillows, made notes of which plants need replacing or getting some new spots of color. I’m going to try the shallow water dish for the bees etc. Right now my weather is much different than yours, I live in the SF Bay Area, we’ll get our really hot weather later in the year…Waiting to bring up the umbrella, still too windy . your posts are great, good to hear you are getting better from the ankle injury….I put out cushions under the bench on the deck for my cat Chloe, she loves being under the bench…Ivy is a sweetie…..

  5. Glad you are enjoying your garden and the wildlife. I just cleaned and filled 2 birdbaths and might make a bee puddler since they are so important. I just planted some seeds Shasta Daisies and a Canna plant. I took a screenshot of the blogs and videos you enjoy. I have enjoyed Mary and I know you would like Golden Boys and Me. Her home is decorated in lots of color and is so comfy with lots of quilts and homey decor. Enjoy your day.

  6. Baby bunnies are cute but the one who has been hanging out in my yard the past couple of weeks ate my Aster plant right down to the ground – only 2 half chewed up leaves left on it! That Aster plant was here when I bought the house nearly 9 years ago and it has grown taller each year, and never touched by any of the rabbits who pass through from time to time. They usually restrict themselves to eating the grass. Now I’m wondering, which one of my beautiful plants will that little monster eat next! I can’t possibly protect everything in the yard. It couldn’t chomp on the day lilies, which I have in abundance, noooooo, it had to go after my Aster. I don’t know if it what’s left of it will survive, and I’m steaming mad.

    1. Jan, I’d be angry, too, about rabbits eating my treasured plant(s). In fact, I did get angry at my old apartment, when the same thing happened to me in the side yard of a duplex where I lived.

I tried everything that was recommended, but the only thing that worked was blood meal bought from a garden supply store.
It grossed me out, but it worked! Hope you’ll have the same success!

  7. Good morning Brenda, I love watching the bunnies and squirrels. We do not get any bunnies in our yard because of the dogs but I see them in the neighborhood. Lots of deer as well.

I like Suburban Homestead on Youtube, he has great ideas, is incredibly well spoken and uses what he has and is a bit frugal.

    Have a wonderful day!

  8. We are watching Happy Valley on Acorn TV.
I am reading Homecoming by Kate Morton.

    1. I thought I’d watched Happy Valley, but maybe not. I looked up Homecoming and it sounds good. I’ll put it on my list.

    2. Yes, Happy Valley is quite intense! Sarah Lancashure is so good (and James Norton too)

    3. Happy Valley is a very gripping story – I watched seasons 1 & 2 about 5 years ago and I recently saw that season 3 was just released. It is quite intense as Lynn commented, but it is definitely a show that will draw you in.
